    30 days and beyond

Heavenly;545390 wrote: Thanks WIP ... it's almost 'filmed for me' ... my attention span is terrible recently ... before someone stops talking my mind has gone to something else, and it looks so rude ... although I am not doing it intentionally ...

Food for thought and also not being a meditative person normally, it is piquing my interest if it will help me to 'calm' my mind and in turn help me with long-term sobriety,
ie. focusing on sobriety instead of my mind jumping to ''do I want a drink, can I moderate, would one drink hurt ...? ''

hmm ... I will start looking at your meditation info ... thanks

Hi Lorie! So good to have you on this thread!! I loved your post, funny, but not so strange, I guess, that so many of us go through similar transitional phases from life as a drinker to life as a non-drinker. To me, that is why a thread like this is so valuable.

For me the first phase (during the first few months AF,) was primarily focused on just Not Taking that first drink......while studying and trying to learn all that I could about expanding my life into new areas that would support my new way of life. These days I find myself primarily focuse on my new life as a non-drinker. I love sharing this journey with others that are on similar paths!!

I am off to lie down ... I am not well this morning (just run-down I think), and will try doing 'beginners meditation'. It might make me feel better.
(please see https://www.mywayout.org/community/f4...y-5-30917.html and you will know this hasn't helped.)

Hope you are feeling better soon, H. Not sure which meditation you are looking into... Evle Lou is teaching one type of practice, and I am teaching another. One is not in any way "better" than another... they are just different. People need to find a style, and method, that works for them...

I keep getting logged out. I thought I had posted this on the other thread. I and others were asked not to post about abstaining on the moderation section, we respected that. I started this thread and the other thread for advice, support, long term abstainers or those wishing to be long term abstainers. Anyone is welcome to post if they respect what RJ put this section here for.

                  Hi LT Abbers

                  Hi Gang --
I try to check in from time to time. The LT abber threads look a little quiet so I thought I'd post and update. I will hit my 16 Month AF on Wednesday! It all started right here on MWO 16 months ago. What a journey its been. I'm so glad so many of you were here when I logged on to this site - So if I could say ONE thing to all looking for long term ab - it is that YOU CAN DO THIS forever. But you must take OUT of your mind that you will someday Mod. That is the hook that will pull you back into the life you want to leave.

I have a lifetime of love for RJ and the people on this site. It was the beginning of a life that I did not believe existed for me. It's been a journey of rough roads, rivers of tears and a mountain top so high the view is amazingly pristine. The great part is that the clear view begins the day you stop drinking. You may have to wait days and days to feel the early rewards, but one day you will look back and realize that the healing began that day.

To all who are long term abbers, and who desire to be long term abbers .... Here's to YOU!

                  Livingfree since Jan. 1, 2008
AF since Jan. 1, 2008 .... It all began right here

Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice, you made it now.

                    HELLO MY LONG LOST FRIEND!!!!!

I was so surprised to see the 30 days and beyond thread on top when I logged in and thrilled to see who put it there this morning!!! I'm so happy to hear from you! I knew you would be doing well. I am also. Please send me an e-mail or pm me if you have a chance to fill me in on what's happening in your life!
I'm off to my Sunday school class and Church. Went to my friend's daughter's wedding and reception last night. No regrets about not drinking there--ate too much. Hubby even made the trip to the cake table and brought me some! Miracles never cease!

You've made my day, Liv! Stick around awhile, we need your wisdom!

                                30 days and beyond

It's good to say we are 30 days and beyond, what about Xtexan and 3 years and beyond, or 13 years or 30 ?

Whilst it's neither good to look back and regret it can also be daunting to look forward and think it's unobtainable ... Maybe I am now in the middle at just 2 years ... past the 30 days enough to be giving support to those who are reaching for longer term sobriety.

I had a break to do other things like facebook and my website and blog, supporting those who actively seek longer term sobriety. I will always be around, yes, as posted lightheartedly before a very good friend of mine persuaded me to come back and give support here again if I have time ... I do.

So hello, to those of you who want to get back on the discussion of 30 days and beyond .....
