Looking to hear from abs ppl not on topomax

Hey guys, I haven't started this program yet but I was looking for information from people who took the abstinent route and only took the supplements and decided not to take the prescriptions. I was curious to see if the supplements alone helped, and if so, how long do you have clean and do they make you feel weird or anything. Lots of Q's but your answers are much appreciated. I am very interested in this and just wanted a little more info. Thanks!

    Hi ASalazar,

    Sorry, I just saw this!
I did not take any Rx meds, I didn't even take the MWO supplements.
I have to watch out for allergies so I took my own supps.
The big thing for me was the MWO CDs, they really helped me learn to relax without AL & to change my thinking.

Lots of people here have had great success with the meds. A good plan & a strong commitment was all I needed to get started. We are all different though so you really do need to make a plan that works for you. Look in the Tool Box (in the Monthly Abstinence section) for great ideas.

    Wishing you the best!

In my opinion this is the basis of it all, no matter what route you take. I only took supplements (L-Glute, a mixed amino, and kudzu), followed a healthy diet, exercised, used whatever tools I needed for whatever came up (see tool box thread Lavande mentioned). 100% (not 90 or 95 or 98) commitment was really the biggest thing and willingness to do whatever it takes. Take it a day at a time, or an hour, or a minute.

I had no problems or side effects with the supplements.

I just passed two years sober this month. I am not currently taking the supplements, but keep them around if I feel the need.

Wishing you the best of luck with whatever way you choose!

        Hi Asalazar,

I started on a new healthy way of living which included exercise and healthy eating,I also read a lot about drinking and alcoholism, plus for a while surrounded myself with like minded people. But has been said whatever way you get out is fine by me.

I tried EVERYTHING and stayed drunk. You just got tired one day. I just made the choice to stop letting alcohol ruin my life. I started going to church as well. I surrounded myself with non-drinking positive people.
