If I Arrived at WMO Today....???

At the end of the day, peeps, it is good there are those on MWO who are forthright and honest and it is good there are those here who understand that not all here will do well with that in-your-face honesty, etc.

This site welcomes all types of people and all types of alcohol abusers. Period.

We all must find our own way, though.

But, let's not forget one important thing about alcoholism. 40% of us will die directly from this disease. This is fact.

I will take whatever help I can get to beat that statistic and I will give whatever help I can to help others beat it.

There is no "right" way that will work for all of us but there is a path out for each of us. Let's not lose sight of the fact that we are striving to find our personal way out and striving to help others find theirs.

    Love,

If I Arrived at WMO Today....???

      Hi, All,
First of all, I want to thank all that gave such well thought out input on this topic. So much valuable information. Mollyka, your last post was truly brilliant! Cinders, thank you for pointing out the seriousness of what we live with. Alcohol, kills. One of the points that I make to myself and on here as well, is that no matter how many years of sobriety we have, we are all just one drink away from disaster. I have never said that long termers are better than those just starting out. We are all the same. The difference IMO is that those with years of sobriety, perhaps have some pearls of wisdom that might actually help. Most of us have spent years and years in misery, trying to find our way out before something finally stuck.

As for those that chose to use this thread to make up crap about me, and viciously attack me personally. These attacks say a lot about You. I do not own this garbage. I do not know Reggie....so he or she is ignored. But, SK....seriously.....you have a PM that is at least 4 1/2 years old and you are bringing it up here??? Wow! I will say that I remember that first meet up in Seattle. At first I thought wow....what a cool thing to do. However I was shocked and saddened when I heard after the fact about all the drinking that went on. I was happy that I did not attend. By the way....do you even remember all the unsolicited nasty PM's that you have sent me over the years? Most of the time you were clearly wasted.....I deleted them!

I started this thread to try to start a civil conversation about the need to have more serious threads here again. Nothing more. I have never said that there should be "no humor" or "no social threads". But, I think we need balance. Again, thank you to all who shared their thoughts. Whether I agree or not, I appreciate all such input!

With that....I am signing off this thread! My hope is that everyone that wants to find there way out is able to do so!

If I Arrived at WMO Today....???

What I'm about to say is pretty uncharacteristic of me, but I'm having a bad day and I came across this thread and was disheartened by it. Why don't some of you that think MWO needs to be more focused on the seriousness of alcoholism head on over to the Newbies Nest and actually offer help? There are quite a few of you here that have A LOT to say, but I never see you in the Nest, where your help would be most useful. Nor do I see you welcoming Newbies, or offering support anywhere else.

Instead of getting up on your high horse and wishing MWO was more helpful, how about you jump in and offer the help you're claiming doesn't exist?

K9, It was already established how helpful the Nest is, in fact it is where I always send people who are new.
But you are right, I never go there, maybe it is time that I did.x

The helpfulness of the Nest was never questioned. The question was why only a few of the more established members ever post there? We all want this place to be as helpful as possible to new (and old) members, but it seems like it's up to a handful of US (and yes, I'm including myself in that group!) to welcome and encourage and check up on, etc, etc. It's easy to post "Head on over to the Newbies Nest" (what's not being said is..."So that SOMEONE ELSE can help you")....then to complain that there is not enough help being offered?? Hypocritical is the word that comes to mind.

I have spent A LOT of time encouraging Newbies, all you have to do is go back over my posts or my threads, I find that offensive and it makes me really angry.

I would always try to help someone whose story relates in some way to mine even tho I don't go in the nest

I just went back to page 7 and gave up. what year was that again?

Molly I remember being told not to post in Newbies and haven't for a long while. But Oney with her grand experience had full opportunity.

I have posted in many other places, so have you......but the less said about that the better.

                      (((Friends))),

Let's please let this thread die a natural death. It is causing way too much angst.

If you must post, please let it be a positive post and not defensive or angry.

Meanwhile, I am personally going to the Newbies Nest and give a look-see. I don't believe I have ever visited there feeling Lav and others had a much better grasp of how to deal with newbies and sobriety. In many ways, I am still a newbie myself. :-)

A very positive aspect of this thread for me is that it is reminding me to welcome the newbies. At AA the "old timers" often say it is the new ones who help keep them sober.

                      Love,

Ok, I have posted many places, I have welcomed lots of newbies, I have shared my experiences and started threads posting what worked for me. I have pm'd newbies and like to think I have helped people on here.

I have just never posted in the Newbies nest. Ok?

Agreed. I just ask that no gets slammed for being over there. I also wish to clarify that I was not referring to the "Newbies Nest" but in the just starting out thread.

Ok. I agree you have given a fair amount of time. Haven't seen alot of it in the last while. Please allow others to give as they feel they are able and simply add your tuppence when you feel led. That's all we can and should do. Peace out.

and read this thread I would definately go elsewhere.

What has been the point of this thread, has it helped anyone or improved anything at all, I would say no. Has it caused upset and offence, I would definately say yes and unfortunately it seems to have come from the people who have the AF time, how has that happened. Maybe its time to put some of the wisdom and knowledge you claim to have learned into practice.
