You're looking pretty good for being 200 TJ, CONGRATS
As ex-drinkers I think we all know a good bit about denial!
Even when the first thoughts of needing to quit enter our conscience we still keep our denial shields up. We do that out of fear! Fear of the unknown, self-preservation, whatever you want to call it - it's just fear! I had absolutely no idea, whatsoever how I was going to manage being a non-drinking adult. Did any of us? Probably not.
I think the best thing we can communicate to the newbies & the others who keep choosing to drink is FEAR WILL NOT KILL US BUT AL WILL!!!!
Gratitude has gotten me through everything these past five years
Today I am grateful that, with a clear head & good health go outside & clear away the 18" of snow that fell yesterday :HAF since 03/26/09

Good evening! Hope everybody doing well. My DH and I are traveling - we are in DC with our daughter for her anime convention, staying in nice Gaylord hotel. This is our first time traveling where we don't carry vodka and brandy with us. Normally the minute we check in we would go to get ice, soda and mix couple drinks (or more). Or we always were looking for the hotel with the separate room for us so we can drink in it. And make sure hotel has bar in it. Lol - so complex. Now it is so much easier enjoying it.AF since 10/20/2013

Cold and snowy...but we are good. Didn't get to go out dancing tonight but that is OK...I was tired from getting up early to meet the plumber at the rental house so he could unclog the toilet...then dh made a mess trying to fix the faucet in the basement...had the plumber fix that too..so it was a full day. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Welcome to the latest inductees to the thread, I'm not online as often, my latest job has me at a computer all day so I tend to avoid it when I'm not working!
Just browsing the discussions made me think. My mum taught me that if I have nothing nice to say be quiet. I'm sure many of us were taught this. But it is really a way of silencing us, isn't it? I was taught to be polite at all cost. So if I disagree, I should stay quiet? Well here it could be a matter of life and death for some. By staying silent am I condoning behaviour that I know will harm someone? In my workplace I teach workers to be ever vigilant and to always speak up when they see an unsafe or dangerous situation. Am I not practicing what I preach?
Just random thoughts this morning, bear with me.
I won't support moderation in general, and I don't bother much with those threads, so I stay silent. But really, when I wasn't ready to quit I really didn't want to hear about how my moderating wasn't the answer to my problems. I wanted to moderate and believe I was making a difference. And I suppose I was. It eventually led me to quitting. So in that sense moderation was the first step. It was what happened when I admitted to myself I was drinking too much.Newbies Nest

Why have they eliminated just plain silliness from television? Thanks for the smiles, Samstone. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Television is full of reality shows & dumb cooking shows these days. I don't find any of them entertaining. Now the three stooges on the other hand :H :H :HAF since 03/26/09
