Lav, I used to think that I should lose a few pounds, though I am not over weight. I was caving to the "thin is best"message our society cherishes. I believe I finally convinced myself that I am just fine the way I am. I am enjoying my ice cream without guilt.

Thank you friends
My attempt to lose these last few pounds has more to do with trying to get off my B/P medication. I never had a B/P problem until I turned 50, gained some post menopausal pounds, etc. Of course back then there was also a huge amount of stress & wine in my life as well
I was on 2 meds at one point & currently on only a half dose of 1 med - I'm getting there. Can't believe I'll be turning 60 in December - shhh....don't tell anyone :H:HAF since 03/26/09

Hi, Lav
Did you see the article yesterday about how for most people, lowering salt intake to recommended levels doesn't affect BP? It is no wonder that all the people who have been trying to be healthy and do the "right" thing in terms of diet are so frustrated with the nutrition professionals (hiding my head in shame ops -- the wrong advice has been given in so many areas and we've been eating some pretty tasteless food for no good reason!

Sadly, it isn't going to change until nutrition policy is based on good science instead of political and financial interests.
:h NS
I'm happy to be past 100 days AF so I can join in here !

Did you guys see the I Love Lucy episode where she went on a diet to get down to a size 12? She said she would cut the weight off with a cleaver if she had to. She ended up passing out and going to the hospital with malnutrition. BUT...she got to do the show with Ricky first! LOL :H
We're glad to have you here NS! The view is worth the climb.:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Boy - we sure have some vanity sizing going on now if Lucille Ball back in the day was anywhere near a size 12! I know my butt is bigger than hers ever was :H:H !

Glad to see you here NS
Nice to know our little thread is motivating people too!
Having spent my life working in healthcare, I can tell you two things I know for sure:
1. You're damned if you do & damned if you don't
2. We're all going to die in the street like dogs.
I don't meant to sound like a chronic depressive because I'm not but this is the way I see things.
I absolutely agree with you that we need good scientific evidenced based nutrition policies. And we need to dismiss the special interest groups in Washington. End of lecture :H

I read an interesting article today about US healthcare consumers. Those folks with very high insurance deductibles may save lots of $$ by 'shopping around' for certain services. Folks are saving lots of $$ by choosing free standing MRI centers instead of hospital based MRIs. But who feels like shoppping around when you are sick or worse yet have a violently ill child?AF since 03/26/09

The joke is that I can refer a dog for an MRI and it will be done at a human hospital which has an 'arrangement' with a veterinary specialist. When I needed an MRI I had to wait two months! As I have said before, we are now, truly, treated worse than dogs!

I prefer my vet over my doctor...so maybe when I get sick I will just take myself to the vet? I actually did have her look at a spider bite on my foot once...her bedside manner is amazing!:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:
