Work is keeping me busy, no energy at the end of the day. But I can't forget how I got here, and I hope someone somewhere takes a piece of my story and it helps them in some small way. Thats what it's all about eh?Newbies Nest

Hey, Pinecone
Have you finally gotten some of that snow? I hope you get to have a white Christmas!
So, how are you doing, Softy? I didn't find 100 to be a "magic number" but I felt extra determination not to lose those triple digits.
3June, maybe you are a plant, like me :H - I just don't get enough sunlight at this time of year and it really affects my energy level. And you're even farther north than I am. We're "happy about not drinking anymore" twins, also :l.
Byrdie, we need to get you a new job - you are TOO BUSY! (Not too busy to cook without a microwave I hope :H).
Have a great day, Lav, Sam, Sunbeam, and any other oldsters that stop by.

Hi "oldsters",
I am feeling better today...more resolve at 109 days. This has been hard for me this time of year. Just so many things that I find hard to deal with and in the past I would have run to wine for comfort but this year I am having to find alternatives..but I am doing it. We are going to usher at church Christmas eve and visit dad on Christmas day so that should keep me busy...then I need an alternative for new years eve. I have some time to figure that out..any ideas???

Line up a bunch of favorite movies you haven't seen in awhile. Invite some friends, or watch them by yourself. Make a treat: I love air-popped popcorn with real butter, sugar and salt.My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. I have two iPods and a hard drive with over three thousand albums on them
Forget the booze I am too busy to drink
(and that is without a room full of books and DVDs)
Too much to do so little time in a day

Hi Friends,
Great to see everyone here!
Congratulations on your AF time, Softy! I can sure agree with you about not finding enough time to do all of one's interests. It is a great problem to have!
NS, yes we have a bit of snow now, and it's very pretty.
3June, great to see you around! I hope the new job is treating you well.
Sunbeam, air popped popcorn is one of my favorites! I like it with salt and melted butter that I put a bit of cayenne powder in for just a little bit of heat.
Dottie, I'm with Sunbeam, a nice quiet night in where you can relax. Think about a totally sober 2014 where you spend each day AF, a whole calendar year. It can be very hard during this season with rushing around and trying to make things perfect, or just ok. I hope you can learn how to let go of some things and get some relaxation for you! It can sure be a challenge for us type A people."When you have faults, do not fear to abandon them." Analects of Confucius

Only two hours left in the 59th year of my life - oh boy :H :H
Waking up a certified senior citizen tomorrow - weird
Dottie, glad you are feeling better!
Don't worry about the holidays, new years or any of that. We all hang out here & keep each other company & sober
Pinecone, my grandkids always come over & ask to make popcorn - funAF since 03/26/09

Success comes one day at a time

Dottie how about ice skating for New Years? Not sure where you live but being active will help with the weight as well.
Lav I looked at the clock thinking I might be able to stay up and be the first in this time zone to wish you a great day, but nope, I'm off to bed, the alarm is set for 5:50 am sorry. I hope you have a fabulous day and that your new life as a sober senior continues to fulfill you! All the best my friend.
Good to see you all! Good night!Newbies Nest

Last question for the wise ones: In additon to advice on how to avoid tempation this holiday, I have shared that I have not been honest with my family about my drinking. They still dont know how bad my drinking was. Does sharing this struggle with my family cement my committement to an AF life. I think I know the answer but I want to hear what you all have to say. One other point on my background, sharing this news to my family will be very hurtful particulary to my wife. She is a survivor having lived through a very painful childhood at the hands of a horrible drunk father. Thanks everyone!Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

TJ - I'm not sure that you have to make a big "announcement" to your family. You can just continue quietly not drinking. I only recently came out blatantly about being an alcoholic...my family knew I wasn't drinking anymore, but they never pried as to why. I'm sure with 2 DUIs and some jail time, it wasn't too hard to figure out!
Wouldn't your wife appreciate you recognizing you have a problem and taking the steps to solve it? Without drudging up the past for her, I'm sure you can together get through this. Sending you strength...:l
Lav....sorry we rushed you out of your 59th year yesterday! As Byrdie said, leave it to a bunch of drunks to try to get the party started early (and keep it going and going and going)!!! :H:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:
Believe in yourself. You are stronger than you think.

TJ, I never made any big announcement about being af. It has been a gradual "outing". If people notice I'm not drinking, they don't usually say anything. Even my husband doesn't know exactly when I quit, since I had taken breaks from alcohol in the past. This approach has worked well for me.My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12.
