I'm not much of a speech maker Pav
Although, you can see from the number of posts I've made over the years I do like to talk - a bit :H :H
I only wish there was an effective & faster way to get the newbies to 'see the light'!
I had absolutely no idea how much I was bullshitting myself until I arrived here & was confronted with that information Getting myself out of denial & accepting the fact that I could no longer drink safely took a huge effort but I have no regrets. I am full of gratitude & intend to stay that way

Nicely said Lav. You're right, if only people would "let it go" sooner, they'd have a longer healthier life. But I guess we all get where we need to be in our own time. I feel sometimes it's a shame it took me until I was 54 to "get it"!Newbies Nest

Thank you Elvis, it feels pretty good
TJ, there's just something about being 50-something that smacks you in the face & makes you finally pull your head out of your A$$. Am I right or what?? :H :H
I suppose that's why I am so grateful. Now that I've gotten the message, I'm not letting goAF since 03/26/09

Don't get me started on that topic TJ :H :H
I really think the 50's was the hardest decade to live through - at least for me.
I think we are survivors though & are showing our true grit & strength in making these changes in our lives. Our loved ones can be a little slow in seeing & appreciating all of this, but they will, in time

Yesterday was my first real day of spring. I spent the day going in and out, doing various yard chores that bring joy to my heart. I thought of having a drink late in the afternoon. It was just the kind of day I used to celebrate. But nope, I really didn't want any. It was just a memory, not a craving. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

I remember at my 40th all of the toasts involved my being a drinking buddy to everyone. Everyone had a great time, but it was a little weird for me - I kept thinking "is that what I'm going to be remembered by?" And that was well before I even admitted to myself that I needed to stop (I am 47 now). I, too, am looking forward to sober memories...
