D- I buy large box of elbow Mac and use 3/4 of it, a jar and a half of sauce, 1 pkg bun length dogs (8 total) 1 average bag of cheese, I add a lil to the mix and use as topper I also add some red pepper flakes and parsley in mix and on top......

When my son was born he was my dads first grandson after having lost his very first child/son at the age of 7 due to a degenerate muscle disease followed by having 6 daughters after his death...... Needless to say my son was instantly the light of his life.... They are sooooooo close... Anyway before he was born my dad said to me "Var Lynn" (that's what he calls me) " there are two things I never want to see this child do, ride
Motorcycles or play football"! Can't imagine dealing with my son going away and having fear of failure or injury on top of it........

I am well aware my son likes to smoke pot, I'm not a fan but my hubby partakes..... Honestly it does not concern me, I would be way more concerned if he was a binge drinker or something......

D- is your daughter college bound?

      Good morning mod squad!

Had a night nurse overnight last night, she's still with another family for this week, (remember our twins came at 35 weeks due to emergency c-sect) but starts Sunday for weeknights for two months. My wife got a full nights sleep, and I was happy to have someone tell us a few things and clarify conflicting advise from friends and the internet (including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic). The biggest one has to do with room temperature in baby's room. AAP recommends between 67 and 72, while the Mayo and Cleveland clinics recommend MUCH colder, 61 to 67, which seems a bit cold to me. The best answer, which the nurse told us, was "if they're sweating and you can feel dampness in their clothes, it's too warm, if they're too cold and cold to the touch and or shivering, it's too cold!" My MIL returns for the week this week, and I'm looking forward to my wife discussing this with her (remember she doesn't like AC and has difficulty keeping the door closed to keep the AC affective in their room!)

Vliv, I agree that pot is much less concerning than alcohol, but, unfortunately, NCAA and college rules, not to mention laws in this country, are much tougher on pot. Failing a drug test (and pot is the most difficult of all recreational drugs to mask) would get the poor kid suspended, so I'm hoping he just quits for four or five years.

My daughter is about to start her senior year of HS. Long story, but her mom has created an environment that I don't have any real disciplinary role in her life, and also is much more of her "BFF" than parent. She's had parties when she turned 16 and for certain events (homecoming, pre-prom, etc) where her mom either turned a blind eye, or in the case of the sweet 16, let them drink beer openly. Needless to say, that was a HUGE source of conflict between us. My daughter had straight A's through middle school, but once the work got difficult enough that she had to put in serious effort, her grades have dropped and she's now getting A's in certain subjects she likes and barely getting through the tough ones. Her mom doesn't ever give her consequences for things like not turning in assignments or cutting class. It drives me up the wall, because her longtime friends, whom she's every bit as smart or smarter, have continued to excel in school and will be going to very good Universities, while my daughter is going to have a tough time getting in. I'm not excited about shelling out $50k+ / year for her to go to a lousy college, and have told her she'll be at a branch of UConn (not the main campus at Storrs, which is one of the top 100 universities in the country) for $15k/year if she doesn't get her act together and kick butt this year.

Anyway, it's after 8 and I have to get into the shower and get to work. OMG I just realized something: TODAY IS DAY 30! I made it this far, and am now focused on getting to 6 weeks (12 more days) minimum.

      Have a great day, all.

Congratulations D!!!! I started a thread just for you.

Thanks for the details on the recipe V. I'm going to try it this week! It sounds good and easy, just my style. We usually eat sauteed chicken breasts, or boneless pork with a couple of side dishes on weeknights. Nothing fancy. I also regularly do a hamburger or turkey/rice dish on the stove with tomatoes and onions.

Hope everyone is having a good start today. My sinus infection is bothering me today and running a slight fever. I wonder if it has anything to being in the pool all day Sat. Doctor diagnosed it on Friday. Anyway, took today off to rest and recoop.

LG...holy $hit, I couldn't believe when I saw the thread, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Made my eyes well up with tears of thanks and gratitude for all the help and support I've found here. I'm downplaying the 30 days a little bit, because I don't want to tempt myself. Thus the revised goal of 6 weeks....

Vliv, even if I decide to stay AF I'll still come here, you all have become my buddies, my support network, and I can't fathom thinking about leaving you! As far as work goes, I sell software in the medical industry. I like to say from time to time that "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on the internet" (I do a great deal of my demo's over the internet.

D- have you and your wife discussed the parenting disagreements? It would be a good idea so that you two can get on the same page for the twins.

I am sure your daughter will pull it together, but I agree with you on the mistake of treating your child like a BF, never a good idea...........

I raised our son for the first 7 years on my own, so I had kinda already laid the parenting rules down before his father came into the picture and he respected my ways. I knew from the second I got pregnant that my number one mission with my son would be education - My son graduated with honors and all but in no way is he a genius, I honestly believe as long as a child go's to school every day, does their work and studies when need be that A's and B's are inevitable. Also it was a great help that our school district has an online access up to date with grades and assignments, he always knew that if he missed turning in one assignment, that I would see it instantly and he would be in trouble - Same with if he missed a class......

Well you got some time with the little ones for now

                Way to go Dave!!
Still on day 10 but no worries yet ( personal probs galore but am dealing with them ).
I feel for you with your daughter it is so important to be an active parent (my girl is 14) during these crucial years when they are playing at being all growed up but still need so much support, especially with school.
Anyway well done 30 days you champion you

Well had a pretty relaxing AF Monday, was pretty lazy just watched TV and ate too much.... no hang over from that though.... Enjoying the Kindle my son is letting me use, got up an hour early to read.....in fact enjoying the Kindle itself sooo much could care less the book I am ready sucks (Any one read it: Gut's?) I guess it does not suck I am just not fond of the girls writing style....almost like she is trying to hard.

LG - glad you are back to work and feeling better.... Hope you enjoy your white trash casserole as I am about WTC'd OUT However, I did not make my second batch in the oven last night because my hubby grabbed a sandwich on his way to band practice and told me not to worry about dinner. So will have again tonight.....

Debating doing another AF day but not holding myself to it. It is amazing how flippen great or at least 100% better I feel every morning I wake up without a liquor hangover yet does not fail that thoughts creep into my head on my drive home from work. Still can't believe that I have managed to avoid that liquor store for 17 days (except for the one Friday early on I ran back out to it)!

Definitely have to attribute a large part of that success to all of you and this entire site.

Hope everyone has a great day..... Still missing a few people around this site.

Good morning all! Had the bottle of sparkling cider last night, my MIL wondered what was up with that and I told her I was celebrating the babies being home a week! My wife knew what we were toasting, and my MIL had her glass of red.

We didn't tell MIL or most of my in-laws about my sobriety/moderation journey b/c we don't want them worrying as my brother, who was sober 20+ years, went off the wagon while we were honeymooning and lost his kids as a result. Besides, she's 83, and why worry her. My family knows what's going on and are all very supportive. Not that my in-laws wouldn't be supportive as well, but they'd also worry for my wife.

Vliv, glad you've had a few days AF. I absolutely love my kindle, so much that I bought my wife one the Valentine's Day after she gave me mine for Christmas. Got my daughter a Fire for her birthday back in June, and she loves it too! The only thing I don't like is no back lighting, so reading at night in bed requires a little light.

LG, thanks again for the 30 day thread post. The response there has been incredible, really making me feel good about what I've done.

Cashy, hope you're still sticking around this thread. Hope everyone else is doing well. Lurking folks, jump in and lets get this thread rockin!

Have a great day all! AF or Mod, stick to your goal for the day and feel great when you wake in the morning.

Hey D. I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised at your 30 day thread. I know when I first made it 30 days, it was very heart-warming to get "pats on the back", and I try to make sure others get recognized too.

Still muddling through the day here. I'm very hungry but still have 20 min. before my lunch hour (1 pm). Thinking about subway.

                            Day 3 AF for me.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm subway, I don't think a week goes by I don't eat there at least once.

My son has worked all summer at an awesome small chain sub shop and gets us subs half off, they are soooo good but I like all the ones that are really bad for you from there though......

I am a creature of habit when it comes to lunch I will eat the same thing for weeks on end and then switch to something else for weeks on end, right now it is lean cuisine cheese tortellini

Hi, LG and VL. I too like Subway, but mostly get creative with their Chicken or Steak chipotle subs. Also love (might be even better than Subway, which started and is headquartered here in Milford, CT) D'Angelo Subs, not sure if they've gone nationwide, though.

VL, I am the same way at times. I find something I really like and have it a bunch of days in a row. There used to be this awesome deli around the corner that made the best Cajun chicken sandwiches...dripping with spicey cajun sauces...that I probably had 3 a week for two years! Lately I've been getting these awesome gyro's from a greek deli that the owner, a friend of mine, will use Siracha sauce when he's cooking mine....OMG, I went two weeks solid every day early this summer, and might grab one right now just thinking about it!

Hope everyone else is well. LG, I really did appreciate the 30 day post, and look forward to playing that forward for someone else!

Have either of you two ever heard of or participated in Landmark Education ("The Landmark Forum"?) I have done the Forum a few times and the advanced course and a few seminars, and really loved it. It's all about creating and living a life you love, and I've recently realized that I got away from that. I signed up for a course and am already sensing my brain taking me back into that mode of thinking. It's very positive, and I'm liking it in a big way.
