    Gratitude - please add on!

DG, thanks for your kind words! After my most recent root canal fun, I walked out into the bright sunshine and REALLY wanted a drink...then I had to laugh, as it was 10 am, and definitely NOT the scenario for a martini..at least, not in my world, even then. So I think I made do with Starbucks.

Odd to note that on a deep level, I am truly grateful for modern dentistry...when I was little, my maternal grandmother wore dentures, and I sort of figured I would, too, when I got to be a grandma...thank goodness, that has NOT turned out to be the case! I still have all my own toothies, except for a root canal or two & corresponding caps. FF

      Gratitude - please add on!

:thanks:This morning I am simply grateful to the Universe for the great good fortune I have had in my life, and especially the gift of good health along the way.

Yesterday I had the fortitude to make a long drive to have lunch with a woman who has been a long-term friend, mentor and over-all good example to me for many, many years.. We both started out with remarkably similar life experiences, yet over the years my circumstances and good health have been abundant in comparison.

And, therefore, indirectly, I am thankful for MWO and how it has helped me to improve my own health in recent years. FF

FF - you are wise beyond your years as you sound like my brother's FIL - he's 93 and oh so grateful for never having a disease that has caused him pain (he has lukemia now), that he can stare out a window into the woods and nature, and that he can spend his last days with his daughter and my brother. I have always loved that man.

Today I am grateful for a safe trip with my sister and to visit my brother, sister-in-law & her wonderful Dad.

When dh retired, his boss threw a retirement party with the theme "Life is Good". I am also grateful that I have started my Christmas shopping with a license plate for dh that says "Life is Good".

TMH, your brother's FIL sounds like a wise man who appreciates what he's got...as you point out, perhaps a good example for us all.

The license plate for your husband for Xmas sounds like a great idea! Makes me smile as I think about it.

Glad your trip is going well. FF

Today I am grateful that last night I suddenly understood a compliment I received on Wednesday from an appearance-conscious friend I don't see too often. She most effusively said nice things about my complexion! Finally (48 hours later) I realized she meant I no longer have the red face of a heavy drinker. Wow. Vanity IS a great motivator... FF

              Gratitude - please add on!

Today I am grateful for the opportunity to feel good and welcomed back by old running friends. Everyone said retirement must agree with me which was good to hear.

You know, last January when we did the same thing I was coming off an AF stint, and I knew I looked better and more confident. Last night I was thinking this about a gf across the table. She was drinking a glass of wine. Later, she said she had been having hot flashes affecting her sleep, quit the wine, and voila, they went away. Sleep was more important to her than the wine. That is why she looked so good!

FF - happy for you, it definitely does show. Whether it's lack of redness or lines or stress, going AF greatly improves our looks.

                Sneezing

The sneezing started yesterday, between Payless and Michaels...nonstop, I might add. Today I am grateful that antihistamines have been invented, and I can use them.

Plus I am thankful that for much of the year I have no problem...there have been times and places in which we have lived during which it might have seemed I was
                addicted to allergy meds!:rofl2:

Also today I am grateful to MWO for offering me a path by which I can choose to control my behavior to benefit my health while still accepting the idea of sharing the occasional alcoholic beverage with my husband and/or others. He loves me, and does not want me to think of myself in the way that the culture often depicts a person who "cannot" drink alcohol! FF

oh I so agree with that FF. Today I am grateful too for the support here and that I do feel I have a choice in whether to drink or not which wasn't always the case. I'm also grateful for the extra energy i have at times since cutting back on the drink

Skype is a wonderful invention...I am so glad we have it in this modern age, as it helps me to really stay in touch with my children who live far away!
And I am grateful that my face now looks very, very white in the little picture of myself which showed last night on the Skype screen, instead of pink as it used to be, due to poor liver function/over-indulgence in AL....Back to vanity as a motivator!
TMH, I must say, it would never have occurred to me to give up wine to help with my sleep, as you mentioned your gf did...it simply would never have crossed my bird-brained mind!
Interestingly, perhaps that makes another "socially acceptable" way to tactfully slide into "thanks, but not now" in response to an enthusiastic host's cheerfully waving the wine bottle in our faces! Food for thought. FF

Two years ago, many mornings I would wake up with unremembered bruises on my legs, from bumping into furniture while having drunk too much. Now I am grateful that 1). I have almost no bruises; 2.). if I do bump into the furniture, now I remember doing it; and 3). Any bruising is extremely mild and goes away quickly, due I think to improved cardiovascular health! This morning I am grateful for our present support group here on the modders section of MWO, and for the pictures of flowers and books that I enjoy looking at in the avatars, I think they are called, of some of those who post! and. lake scenery, as well! FF

Sleep, wonderful sleep...this morning I am very, very grateful for a wonderful night's sleep, and waking up feeling full of energy...wish I could program it to happen every single night!

And , must confess that after getting past the first few weeks of AF sleep adjustment issues, most nights really ARE better than they were for years.

Also this morning I am grateful to MWO (broken record) for a quote posted in another section by Running Courage, which really "spoke" to me this morning:

By Craig Ferguson: "I got sober. I stopped killing myself with alcohol. I began to think: "Wait a minute - if I can stop doing this, what are the possibilities? And slowly it dawned on me that it was maybe worth the risk."

funny, how the AL-damaged part of our brain persuades us to be so afraid of the "risk" of giving up AL, to say nothing of other risks, trying and not succeeding, etc. etc.

And yesterday was the 25 th anniversary of The Princess Bride - one of our family's favorites! good day, everybody... FF

Hi FF, it's amazing how much different we feel after a good night's sleep isn't it. It's like you wake up and can take on the day.

Today I am grateful that I stayed sober this week, with the help of the board to inspire and motivate me to stay on track with my goals.

And today I was awakened by a phone call from a longtime friend...I am so grateful for the many friends who keep in touch with me I spite of my poor correspondence skills... FF

Today I will go to a memorial service in which a friend honors both her sister and her daughter, who both died unexpectedly during the same week six months ago. I am grateful for our mutual friend who thought to inform me of this service, and I am so VERY grateful that I have a relatively small problem which I can handle by simple self control...and with the help of MWO.
