    Haha LG,

You haven't met my hubby. He is usually "one and I'm done" and often times everyone at the table will have a drink and he orders ice tea. Of course, being with someone like this who does not have a problem (one of the AFers said people like this are moderating and don't know it-so very true) helps me to not over do it. People who are tempting to moderate with S.O.s that drink too much or environmental life styles that make it more difficult definitely have bigger challenges. Things can look easy for some because things may be easier for them to moderate. In many ways, as we know, life just isn't fair.

fantastic work on Monday TMH! :yougo:
I think eve had a good idea of finding another activity or hobby, maybe a couple of times a week so you aren't available for drinking those nights. something like the bike riding during happy hour you mentioned would be ideal, or I remember you also spoke about a woman's bible study group you went to, or just stay home and work on a hobby? I think if there's lots of pressure to drink where you live then being tied up with other things a couple of nights would make it easier to avoid the pressure of nightly drinking. It really is so hard to be around drinkers and not give in to the pressure so I think avoiding it would make it so much easier for you, and that still leaves 4 or 5 nights to socialize and have drinks with people during the week?

Not AF yest but it was planned. Had date night. Went to our other condo, had 2 drinks and watched the sunset, discussed ALS friend's visit. DH had built a ramp for her to take wheelchair out on lanai. She and helper said they sure enjoyed their morning coffee out there watching the golfers and listening to all the birds. They don't call Florida "paradise" for nothing. alm: Love it here.

FF - welcome to FL! Yes, I hope Sandy stays away also. We always feel for vacationers who end up being here for bad weather weeks. (It's rare). That 8K race that neither my dh nor I am running is this Sat. DH volunteered for it forgetting we are playing in a charity golf outing same day. Don't want rain & wind. We are on Gulf side but FL is narrow, can still be affected. You are in shape if you can play tennis! Tough sport.

Eve - "streamline" - like that word. I love AP's. Don't drink them late in day though.

DG - still participate in Bible Study; it's Monday a.m. I did join an evening book club at church we've been visiting. That will take up 1 Thursday/month. When you put it out there that can still have 4 or 5 evenings to socialize, well, you're right, that's plenty. You and FF are too funny. As per this discussion, I need to burn more calories! :teeter:

I can also initiate the bike riding, whether with those ladies from Bible Study, with dh or alone.

Plan to be AF today and tomorrow, possibly Friday since Saturday will be an early, busy day. Again, thanks for all the encouragement. You are right. I can do this.

Nah, he's not a moderater in any sense of the word. He's mostly an abstainer and drinks only one or two drinks a few times a year. If that's moderating, then he's going for the gold, lol.

FF- When did you end up in Florida?! Haha, I am slipping. Very nice for you, hun, and I hope you enjoyed your dinner.

TMH, you sound like you have a very full life. I am a little envious of all the fun things you and dh seem to always be doing. I also envy your commitment to exercising. I just can't seem to get there, and I was once a daily walker and also a regular gym goer. It's been quite a while, lol. I think it's something I really need too, because this weight-loss journey is begging for a boost!

                  What are AP's?

                    Dear friend,

The AFer's were making a valid point which can be easily missed. People who are normal drinkers are really moderate drinkers and don't realize it because they don't think, count, etc. Those AFers are too smart some times and I mean that with all of the love in the world. It is true.

We who moderate are not normal drinkers and we know it. We have had issues with alcohol which made us find this site. However, some of us (with the support of others) can moderate our drinking because we are aware that the shut off valve is broken and we have to be more diligent.

Tonight for example, hubby and I drank on a week-night which is rare. He had his one (of course) and I chose to have two because I don't work tomorrow. And guess what...I really had a craving for a third. Did he? No way. He's a normal drinker. For me, I know I am not, but with the support of all of you, I fought the craving and said "two and I'm through" and came home and switched to flavored water. In the days before MWO I would have opened a bottle at home and had at least one more, if not two and then would have had a horrible hangover along with remorse, guilt, shame, etc. So, I feel blessed to have found MWO, and feel blessed that we do have a moderation site here where we can help and support each other. So, no more weekday drinking now if I want to enjoy a drink or two on the week-end.

Thanks modders, you help to keep me in control!

                    p.s. LG,
Just saw your question to TMH, AP is Arnold Palmer, 1/2 lemondade and 1/2 ice tea. Ice tea however usually has caffeine in it so TMH was stating she doesn't like to drink it at night. It is totally tasty and when out with drinkers, you sound like you're ordering a drink, it looks like a drink (AL), tastes good, and you remain in total control!!

Ok..........well, it's 2:00a and once again, I'm wide awake. Don't want to take anything for sleep now as have 5:30a alarm set, don't want to be groggy. Downside of AF days yet I know if I completely abstained sleep would get better.

FF - live here and never been to a Pincher's Crab Shack. Well, maybe once when Canadian family here. We drove quite a ways, it was in a Best Western hotel, and my grandson who loves crab was so upset - said we could have just gone right across the street. True then, not now. We had a place called Marine Lobster across the street which has since closed. I do remember that when my dd, SIL and I ordered a drink - we all got 2. And this was not that early in the evening. Youngest gs tried either alligator or frog legs, can't remember which. He didn't like it. Stick to crab & enjoy! Don't know where you're from - but assume weather a bit nicer here for you.

LB - we are grateful to have such a life. But then we earned it. This is why I fear for our children, grandchildren if our country stays on current path. That's all I'll say. Regular exercise is kind of like going to church (IMO) - you're either in the habit or you're not and it's easy to go either way. I do know my body feels better when I move. I have many more aches & pains when sedentery, but then I'm a lot older than all of you. See Eve ans question about AP's.

Eve - hey, you did well tonite! Love, love when the control is there on a drinking night to come home and pour a tonic water and not yet another glass of wine. Like DG said, you wore your big girl pants tonite!

Ok, well I think part of my problem is I'm hungry. Just had salad with tuna on top for dinner. Think I'll have a small glass of milk and crawl back to bed. Ladies Opener tomorrow includes breakfast, golf, then lunch. Advised dh to have lunch too as dinner will be non existent or popcorn tomorrow night.

Hi guys...safely back in the FL condo, had carpets cleaned while gone, place looks terrific! If only I were tidy enough to keep it looking this way...

Hurricane Sandy is going to the East, tennis is on for Sat., and today is not AF for me...we walked into Pincher's...my oysters were GREAT... ran into neighbors who are also beach/tennis buddies and, who also arrived today, from Wisconsin! The non-Grandma part of me is alive and well!

LG, thanks for the kind thoughts...

TMH, yes, Pincher's does serve frogs legs, tasty imo but once was enough...I stick to oysters or the stone crabs.. insomnia is a real annoyance. My sister likes an occasional Tylenol PM...have you tried them? I remember that you have tried Calms Forte in the past...

Again, thanks to you, Drinking gal, for starting this thread for us...FFP

FF, mmm crab sounds delish! So glad to hear sandy passed you by too, what a relief!

wow V, you are doing so well! happy friday everyone, I was not af on Thursday, I'm actually rethinking my immediate goals because I've come to the realization that by the time I get through 5 days af, my willpower is just shot and I have trouble controlling how much I drink at the weekend. I'm going to try adding one drinking day back into the week to see if it helps me get my overall drink count for the week down. :sigh:

Yes, I guess so Eve...To me people who only drink once in a blue moon are in effect, non drinkers. I guess anyone I've been around always drank about the same as I did, or at least as often. I guess nearly all my friends and some of my family are problem drinkers if this is not normal, and drinking a few times a year is true moderation.

Hope everyone is doing well today. TGIF!! Mon-Thurs was AF for me.
