    October Mod Squad

Hi everyone it's been awhile, I go the NYC marathon coming up.... My moderation has been good up to lately, last night I slipped up a little. I had to take care of some Tax stuff with my ex-wife and was dreading heading going into the NYC subways during rush hour, so I went into this old bar I used to go to near my old office and had a few beers, no big deal. Then some coug I went out with a few tmes a long time ago texted me so I met her our, my gf was staying in for the night, which was my initial plan. She (the coug) was at some sort of high-end restaurant bar in my neigborhood and I had a few glasses of red wine, then on the way back home she dragged me into the dive bar and I had a few more beers (bottles, I think it was two and I didn't finish the last one, I really wanted to leave); good news, I was in bed early and woke up for work no problem. However, I of course feel a little ill, not hungover so much, but ill. I'm a little mad at myself, but not beating myself up too bad; I just hate the sick and tired feeling you all know.

I also got the marathon coming up and this is not good for training.

Anyway, I am glad to see you are all doing well. I will be fine. I actually have a hockey game to play tonight, which thinking about right now is not pleasant, but I will feel much better during it.

I will check back in later to catch up what you all have been up to. I think I said this before, when I not on the Board, it usually means I am really busy with work and/or things are going well.

I do in an odd way miss you all.

    Best,

    j.

      Good Morning Everyone,

Feeling a little blah this morning, felt fine when I got up and started getting ready for gym but then some tummy troubles hit, still went to gym and managed usual cardio with a few extra calories burned actually (good thing cause when I calculated the calories for the dinner I made last night they were a bit more than I expected). Then when getting dressed for work at gym I put on a new pair of skinny jeans I had bought and they are a bit too long, definitely to long to wear with the pumps I had packed, so I am wearing some back up dressy flip flops I had in the car and just feel off about it (guys sorry to bore you I know you can not understand)

D- Nice job on 100 days, how did you feel about it at the end of the day? Did you enjoy the treats? Sorry about the parting of the night nurse, I can't imagine having a baby in the house let alone two

LG- Nice job, I never measure myself, I should for extra motivation, I just weigh in and judge by clothing size......

FFP - Glad to see the reunion is dying down and you get to get back to your own routine.... Im sure it was nice to see all the family and have so many fun outtings but there is nothing like the peace of your own home and your own routine

Stewarts: That actually sounds like a bit of drinking, I would be wasted and feel like utter poop the next day but everyone is different, glad you are not horribly hung over but realize that you don't feel your best and that its not good for your training. When is the marathon? I love jogging/running but have no desire to ever do a marathon.... maybe a 10K but good for you it is a lot of hard training.

Fly and Chaaku: I have NEVER eaten Indian food..... Want to try it because there are some really nice restaurants here in Vegas but I am a very picky eater.... any chicken dishes you can recommend?

Well I am sure I left a few of you out and for that I am sorry but I hope everyone has a fabulous day.......

OMG, V...NEVER had indian food? You won't believe what you're missing! I love all sorts.....
Also, I get the same comment "I couldn't imagine having a baby at this age, let alone two" all the time. Especially from friends of mine that are doing a whole lot of empty nest drinking. I don't say it (bite my tongue) but I always think "What else am I going to do the next 15-20 years, drink myself to death?" I really get a kick out of my ever-changing and growing (and challenging!) boys.

Stewarts...I don't run any marathons, but I play (though I referee more than play) ice hockey at 50! The refereeing is great...80% of the games I'm tickled that they pay me, the other 20% they can't pay me enough (typically it starts with a coach that's a jerk and the kids/parents follow!)

FFP: OMG, that's the family reunion marathon! My family hasn't been together since my niece married 10-10-10, and even then we were only all together for two days. And that didn't include extended family!

Hope everyone else is doing well. Taking wifey out tonight for dinner/movie as the night nurse is giving us 12 hour shift as a going away present. Have a great Tuesday....
Well the 1st are the hardest days don't you worry anymore.

LG, time DOES seem longer when I'm dieting, too!

V, yeah I'm a little surprised I don't feel like utter crap. I actually feel fine now. I think they fact I was in bed at a very reasonable time helped. I am not happy about it, but I'm not beating myself up

DfromCT, nice, I love it! Yeah, us players kind of hate refs. :-) I'm actually feeling a lot better, Vitamin Water helps.

Women that drink, tend to get the best of me sometimes. My current gf does like to drink when she goes out and can put them away, I even told her we should both watch it.

V, never had Indian, I agree, you need to get some. Chicken Tikka Massala is a classic. I have a place in Vegas also, I'm trying to think if I ever had any good Indian anywhere.... I'm sure one, if not a multitude of the better casinos must have a good Indian place.

Ok I have to pipe in. I absolutely LOVE Indian food, naan bread, vegetable biryani (sp?), a spinach dish I forget the name of...love it, love it!

DfromCT, I met a man once who was scuba diving in his 80's. I was young (20 something) and made an immature comment about being shocked about diving at his age. He answered gracefully and kindly and said "Honey, I only learned to swim when I was 75, never believe you're too old for anything!" So, I don't. Good for you Dave. I am an older mom myself, all of my friends are grandparents and my boys are only teens. It has been a blessing to be an older parent as we're more skilled psychologically, more finacially stable, etc. Everyone has a different road to take. A lot of this wasn't my choice but how life unfolded, as it was supposed to. I am really blessed...and so are you!

V, Where are we at with the doggy situation.
              Chaaku1, FF & FFP-Have a beautiful day
Stewarts, I don't think I posted to you yet as I was busy finishing a degree right around the time you started posting. Nice to meet you, watch out for those cougars! I was a cougar before the word became popular as I'm 11 years older than my hubby.
TMH-I am working the gym, baby, thanks to you. Pumping weights with my teens, walking the dogs a mile morning and night. Trading drinking for fitness!!
Hi to LG, Lila (where are you?) and everyone else who isn't getting a personal message today. :ls to you all!

Hello again. V, I know exactly what you mean about not having the "right" shoes on, although no one else probably notices.

Stewarts, welcome back man! Lol @coug I guess I am a coug, since I am 16 y older than my bf. :-O Glad you are recuperating with the Vit water and feel better.

D, I hope I have something to do other than drink the next 15 years too! Haha, but I won't be raising babies either. Maybe they have a knitting circle somewhere I can join. I think it's great that you're embracing fatherhood and you have a lot to look forward to with your family.

FF, yes time does seem to stall on a diet, lol it's true but I plan to stick with this WOE, so really shouldn't call it a diet.

Eve, it's always nice to be reminded that we can still learn things, no matter what age. I know you mentioned about finishing your degree some time back...may I ask about your career? Is it nursing? Please forgive me for not remembering.:new: :H

Well aren't we a chatty bunch today???

LG/Coug- So you are considering making the low carb a WOE? Good for you..... I would like to get back to my goal weight and then continue the healthy eating on a daily basis but feel more free to have what I want when I want it and plan to cut the gym down to 3-4 days a week..... I have lost the weight many times but never seem to do the maintain thing

Eve/Coug: No luck so far just waiting for another e-mail from shelter with my next pup inside

Stew: I was in no way beating you up for what you drank, I think beating someone up or beating yourself up is USELESS - How often do you come to Vegas? Is it for work? Where about's is your place (not looking for address here )

D-I am a very young empty nester at 35 and have NO plans to spend my empty nest days drinking Who know hubby and I could still wind up with another, or we have discussed adoption or foster parenting but for now I am enjoying the empty nest and cant afford a thing no with the college payments for the child I do have

OMGoodness, it's busy here. Busy here too what with connecting with our guests staying in our other condo. They invited us over for drinks last night. Had 2 vodka gimlets. Felt just fine today. Tonite they are taking us out for dinner. I am either going to be AF or just have 1 glass of red wine (Italian restaurant) so that I can stay awake for the debate.

Stewarts - love hearing about your upcoming marathon. Ran NY in 1988 and 1990. Probably told you that b4. It was probably my favorite marathon because I just could not believe this little MN girl was actually running the burroughs of NY.

Hi to everyone - sorry no more personals - need to get some things done this afternoon. Working out but scale is not moving. Reading Weight Watchers Boss; I may incorporate his split weight training and go back to using machines. Worth a try and they say you should mix things up.

                    Have a great day!

I'm getting really jealous now Eve and LG - what is this with the 'toy boys'? The best I've managed is 3 years and that's my hubby... What are you doing that's so right? Can we all have some of that potion please?

I also note that a few of you are quite fit - running marathons, frequenting the gym etc and going on diets (well I suppose I am doing that, a bit) but I haven't lose an ounce since I stopped drinking :upset: It is not fair. Perhaps it has something to do with the penchant for dark chocolate that I have developed... I have to nibble about half a bar a night while I watch TV, a substitute for drinking a bottle of wine!

Eve you mentioned scuba diving - I used to do that lots. I trained in UK waters (poor visability, freezing cold and bog all to see unless you like grey fish and wrecks). It equips you for diving anywhere in the World though and I have dived in some great places.

D - congrats on you 100 days - that is just awesome and you should be rightfully proud of yourself. You and you wife will be like 'ships in the night' with the twins now :H

Fly (much better name than FF 2) Envious of you chance of a authentic home cooked Indian meal. The best one I ever had was cooked by the Indian husband of a friend of my mothers some 30 years ago - it was to die for... I am sure you will love it!

FF - Alway sad to see the family go after a gathering like that eh, but it is nice to get you home back to youselves too. I hope they haven't left too much mess to clear up.

Stewarts - It's good to meet you - another fittness fanatic to make me feel inadequate LOL

LG - finally a special message fo you - you are a special person who has contributed so much to many members here and you certainly struck a cord with me. PLEASE PLEASE do not let a nasty individual undermine all that you mean to so many :h

It is evening here in the UK and I am about to serve dinner. You all have a great remainder of the day/ eve/ night.

V, I didn't think you were beating me up, I was actually agreeing with you that I was surprised that I didn't feel realy bad.

I am so glad you all took the cougar comment that right way, after writing it, I was hoping no one would get offended, it wasn't meant to be...and good job to you both on the boy toys. :-) When I was 25, I had a gf who was 35...this was a long time ago as well, before the whole cougar..thing..for lack of a better word.

NYC marathon is November 4th. THis will be my fifth marathon, third NYC, my best time was a few years ago in the 3:47 range...I'm looking at a 3:35 to 3:40 this year (hopefully).

As for Vegas, the place is in Spanish Trail if you know where that is.....I don't usually go out to Vegas for business, I do own some real estate out there though (investment). I have some family out there.

I know I didn't get to you all, like I said, it's been awhile since I've been on here...hope everyone is having a great day, I should change my status from tired, I will...and I will play my game tonight...

Chaaku, there's no special potion, lol. Just seem to be getting them younger and younger. Might be lack of availability in my age bracket (48). Also, I did not lose anything when I quit drinking either, much to my chagrin. I've only managed to lose since I've begun eating low carb. I lost almost a lb a day at first, but it was mostly water weight, so now it's stabilized to 7 lbs in 4 wks. I can live with that.

Yes, V, I do want to continue this WOE indefinitely. I will have days when I eat carby food, no doubt, but overall I think this works pretty well for me.

I got a shocking email from my sister this morning. It seems she has left her partner of 15 years and has now met someone else, and is getting married to him December 20!!!!!!!!!!! You could have knocked me over with a feather. I'm going to be talking to her partner soon and maybe I can get some answers. How crazy is that?!!

LG, that's crazy news! Then again, I'm in the middle of trying to break-up a marriage, or, I'm a catalyst I should say is perhaps a better word....it happens. My ex-wife and I were together for 6 1/2 years, sometimes you just grow apart. My current gf who is "sepearated", but they're supposedly "working things out" on occassion, her and her husband are going through the same exact thing, they both just don't see it....if her and I end up together, who knows, the only right thing I know, is these two should not be together anymore, it's not healthy for either of them....

Anyway, feel much better today, played my game which was fun...it's also get me back to looking at things in perspective....for those new, well, for one, it is proven, running is actually a natural anti-depressant, but you can attribute this to most any sport...

                            Everyone have a great day!

                              Glad you feel better!
