Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

Feel wonderful today! Took a walking tour yest that ended with a lunch. Fairly large group and I don't think one person had an alcoholic drink. Found that rather interesting and unusual.

Was up at 5:00a today. Hit the fitness center by 7:30a, did a leg weights routine, 20 min on ET and ran/walked 2 miles. Then it was time to shower and go to Bible Study. My turn to lead so needed to get there a bit early.

Am hungry but see now I've made it into the afternoon. Some water, Diet Coke and should be good yet for a while.

      Hi TMH,
Was curious about this statement. Is it customary for a lot of the folks in that particular group to drink in the daytime? Have always thought it is hard for you when you golf, as environmentally so many are drinking daily and in the daytime as most everyone seems to go to the club after a game and drink. I used to hang with a GF who thrived on lunch dates because she would always have a couple of glasses of wine in the daytime with lunch as the excuse. Quit hanging with her when I decided to moderate my drinking. So, easy to get into bad habits.

Back to your sentence, wonder why not one person had a drink. What was different for them or going on that the daytime drinking didn't seem appealing to anyone.

      Just thoughts...

Hey, Eve, think you hit it on the head. I commented to dh I was surprised how many men or couples were there. He said must not be golfers. Yet one Canadian couple who sat across from us at lunch said they golfed. Also, we all drove separately and people are concerned about drinking & driving. When we go into club no one has much more than 1 mile to drive and speed limit is 25.

Ok, time to get ready for golf. No drinking. LOL

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

Hi to anyone visiting. Enjoyed lunch with friends after golf yest, came home & took a nap. Very rare as, of course, then could not sleep last night. 2 reasons: Nap & AF. Watched the movie Smashed in middle of night. Thought it was pretty good.

Today we are going to a Music Fest around the main pool. Local talent. Heard they are expecting 500 people. My plan is to go carrying a bottle of water, should be 80 deg. Then tomorrow night is 70th b.d. Party for good friend. She was born on Feb 29 so she says bring on the sassy 70's; I'm really 17-1/2.

Dawned on me last night that It was 3/1. Going to continue being AF hoping to feel less tired, start looking better. Will document here - for my benefit.

Am grateful for clear head this morning and desire to clean up the house a bit and have a good workout.

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

            Morning, my friends!
Well, after a week of blizzards and avalanches and feet of snow, I took a three day break from my diet. Cabin fever and heavy work outside in below zero temps just seemed to call for more food and good wine. Can't say that I feel overly bad about it either. There is something tremendously comforting about having worked so hard to clear snow, then coming in and enjoying a glass of wine with my sweetheart, listening to music and watching the snow blow sideways.

BUT back to the straight and narrow today, I promise. Three days is a break. Making it longer might feel like a failure.

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

Just read through this entire thread and want to start back up again. Concentration needs to be on both fronts. Many more AF days and I did ditch the F-5, bought a NutriBullet, have been having smoothies, tons of salads, but unfortunately, bought candy so have had some dark chocolate w/almonds everyday. That's almost gone. My plan:
              - Continue with smoothies, salads, protein, drop the chocolate
              - Cardio: Run/walk using the Couch to 10K program; ET
              - Get back to Jamie Eadie's Weight Lifting Program
              - Drink more water and tea
              - Limit drinking by checking calendar, decide which social events I'll probably drink, keeping in mind my desire to not be even slightly hung over to play golf or workout.

NNG, Fancy C, Jazi's Mum, Eve11, Dancing Girl, Dip Gal - would love to have you join me. Or anyone else?

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

                Hi, TMH.
I am on board, as well. I haven't checked my weight in awhile, as I knew that I wasn't losing... that's okay with me. I'll get there. I did a really good fast (for me) 8 mile walk yesterday, kept up with the folks who have been serious about it during the winter. That made me happy, and I certainly feel good today - the lovely twinges that tell me I remember what it feels like to be fit. I was so focused on losing weight when my husband was gone for three weeks, and then took a big leap off the diet wagon. Now I am back. Thanks for starting us up again!

Great to have you on board, NNG! Slight DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is good. Tells you worked those muscles.

Yest I did my weights, then 2 mi R/W, played 9 holes of golf. Today I did a Legs wt training, got on ET and lost power in my Ipod so got bored quickly and only did 100 calories worth. Hopped on bike as I had magazines to read so made up for a little by biking 6 miles. Laid by pool for a bit in my workout clothes. Sun, gentle breeze, felt amazing.

Now need to do some situps and stretch and on with the evening.

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

Sunday c/I - Champion Dinner/Dance last night. Ended up having 3 chardonnays, over several hours and a big meal so didn't feel too badly this morning. Still....empty calories.

Hit FC and did Chest/triceps, 30 min or 250 cal worth on ET. Got on outdoor bike for 30 min, approx. 5 miles. Whew, feel like I'm still on the bike. Aftermath of last night??

Our community has a growing # of serious bicyclists. They go offsite and ride anywhere from 18 to 30 to 50 miles. I'm not that hardcore. I was happy to learn they won't let anyone ride with them who does not wear a helmet. Our local weatherman, age 61, just died. He was biking, hit a sign, & fell & hit his head on the curb. No helmet. When I heard the name, I wondered if it was the weatherman I saw a few yrs ago put on a hurricane seminar. It was. Made me sad.

On a happier note, going to sit back and enjoy the end of The Masters today. We have steak leftover from last night so dinner is a no brainer.

Have had a good week working out. Monday I ran/walked, Tuesday golfed and walked, Wednesday ran/walked, used ET.

Posted today for 1st time on # of days AF thread. Put today, Apr 17, as my Day 1.

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

Enjoying a Smoothie after hitting FC for a short (2 mile) run/walk. This is Week 2 of training program where I am supposed to be running 2, walk 2, but body told me this week upping from 1 min to 1:30 was good enough. Today I did try one 2 min segment running and lungs/legs handled it so next week will do the 2 min. It's still progress.

Playing golf this afternoon with dh. More exercise. Handicap keeps dipping, and I don't feel I really am in that category. Stayed at 25 forever, then went to 24, 2 weeks later 23, now 22. Yikes!

Where do I concentrate? Lose wt or AF?

First Friday night AF in quite some time. First night I slept pretty well, last night not so much. I remember when 1 Benadryl would put me out pronto. 2 Benadryl, 2 Ibuprofen, finally 25 mg of Trazadone at 3:30a got me to sleep. Too bad today is an early tee time.

Note to self: Buy some Tylenol PM and take early in evening.

Know I'm talking to myself here but want to document the days.

                          Benefits of AF so far:

                          Coffee tastes good
                          No dull headache
Even w/o much sleep face looks less lined
                          Eyes are already brighter

Shot a 93 yesterday. Very pleased with that. Got 16.8K steps in.

TMH, you are not talking to yourself. I'm here. I just haven't posted on this thread recently, as I am not making grand progress other than my training. I think we are doing 6 miles today... not so much. And, since I've been AF the last two weeks, I've been allowing myself ice cream in the evenings. That should probably change sometime soon.

I certainly do empathize with the poor sleep even when AF. It just doesn't seem fair, does it? However, the night before last I slept for probably 9 hours, so I guess it evens out.

Blue mood these days. Today is supposed to be almost spring-like, so I am hoping that will brighten up the inner weather as well as the outer.

Ah, so good to "see" you NNG. Are we alike or what! Think part of my problem last night was the ice cream sundae dh made me. I know I shouldn't have sugar in the evening but.....it was really good! If not for that, I think weight would have dropped a bit.

You know I read somewhere on here that we should take our sleep whenever we can get it. I've decided to not be so afraid of napping. Glad you got that one good night's sleep! And good job on the 2 AF weeks! What are your benefits?

                              Ok, have to run.

So, yesterday's walk was a good one and we did a few more miles than we had planned. I went at my sister-in-law's pace which is considerable slower than my own, and we enjoyed it very much. Going at a different pace one uses different muscles, so it is good to mix it up.

TMH, thanks for the encouragement. You and I will do this weight thing together. As are as the benefits from my AF time, I truly enjoy the middle of the night feeling when I can say to myself, "Well, at least my not sleeping tonight isn't from over-doing!" I know that with time I'll have more energy and more creative juices flowing. And holy Hannah, is my knitting ever going to town!
