Hi Paddy,
Down tools and go home!! I like your avatar.
Same old same old here today, can't believe how quick the weekend has come around.
I'll be taking my second dose of Topa this afternoon and nothing to report as yet. Dinner tomorrow with the rellies and that's about all planned for this weekend.

Morning-Happy Friday the 13th!
Paddy say you're superstitious & you need to go home.
Hi Kitty!
Nothing here as well. We went to the Humane Society yesterday (the place for my job Drug Screening was right down the street). Oh jeesh. The kids fell in love with a dog (we're thinking about it but you know-this is something that takes a lot of planning). The pre-hormones of my daughter took over & she was moody as hell not understanding why we couldn't get it (actually someone was just about to do an interview as we were leaving). My son echoed my daughter as he copies everything she does. He was just the right dog (1 yr old) husky/cattle dog mix likes kids but not housebroken. But we're going on 2 vacations in the next month. Maybe we'll think about it then.
Another animal story-we are magnets for animals in trouble. Remember the bunnies in my front yard (btw-didn't make it-mother never came back). Well I'm picking weeds & in the rock bed on the side of my house~ a nestling(too small to be a fledgling). No mommy in sight & it was very small. Couldn't find a nest in sight. So I took a left over nest from my geranium hanging baskets (yup-had a successful family that just left) & put it in a miniture tree right above where I found it(didn't want to leave him on the ground since it was almost night fall). I looked up on the internet of places that rehabilitate birds & I will give them a call this afternoon. Before I leave for an eye Dr. appt we'll check on him. Poor thing. They said you can try & feed them soaked cat food. He is so little & cute. Hope he made it thru the night.
Call me Mother Nature!
And they want a dog-I've got enough wildlife here! Plus a tadpole & fish no one looks after anymore!
Have a great AF Friday!

Alooooha Friday Cats n Kitties....
Paddy you workaholic you. Kitty you sound mellow.
going to be a slamming weekend for me....my jiu jitsu seminar starts tonight from 6pm til we all drop dead, then Sat and Sun. So I'm off to walmart to stock up on gatoraid and bandages. and a party to go to Sat night even though I'm not sure I'll have the energy or interest...we'll see.
I was talking with the guys at our gym last night and the subject of drinking came up...one of them confided that he plans to quit altogether, and another said that he has a tendancy to go wild and has needed to change his mindset lately. it's a small world indeed

Interesting, Det, with people and drinking problems. When I was working with the UN, there were tons of people with drinking problems. You'd be surprised the tons of young people, and people you'd never suspect having issues like that. Well, look at us ...
It's a sad state of affairs that the alcohol problem continues to have a stigma attached to it. More people could be helped if the stigma could first be done away with and people could come out in the open ...
Anyway, on a more humorous note, I found Flip's twin avatar on the net! Check out the website -

Good morning.
Day five, in AF I thrive!
Emotional this morning, kinda blue. I still feel good of course about being AF, not too worried about the weekend (I'll be working lots of extra hours so that will help). Home isn't great... I really wish my partner could just move out. He's trying hard to deal with his own alcohol issues (tho he's hiding bottles in the bedroom), but he is so rude and cold toward my daughter, I hate it, causes me much stress and pain. I've been trying very hard this week to be of positive mind, happy thoughts, but this home stuff, when it flares, makes it hard. I"m working hard to keep my
AF journey my own and not get intertwined with his journey so I don't get lost.
Anyway - I planned a real vacation for my daughter and myself for early August, and am quite excited!
Happy day to you all!Hugs,
imatree

:boohoo: birdie didn't make it. Something got to it. I was hopeful.
Heeya! Deter. Can we get a pic of you in your jiu jitsu outfit holding a clove of garlic? Seems fitting. Do you do jiu jitsu for exercise or the decipline of the martial arts? I remember when I took Judo for credit in college (LOL) they had us fight each other till we dropped. Then we had to pair off to do stretches/exercises & I got stuck with this short husky guy & we had to do squats & sprint with our partners on our backs. How awkward.
Ima-keep strong. A vacation with your daughter sounds heavenly.:flower: Change a life; make someone feel important. ................. ........................ ..................... ........................ ................. ....... sigpic

Afternoon all! Friday-ness had kicked in and I TOTALLY don't want to work anymore (which is unfortunate since I have over 2 hours to go!)
Breez - thank you for at least trying to save the birdie! I bet lots of people would have blown it off assuming it would die anyway (sorry - grumpy in general from spending my lunch hour running into people who seem to have no manners)
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend...If the weather looks like it will hold I'm going to the shore this weekend (woo hoo)!
Enjoy your Friday the 13th!

POETS
"piss on everything tommorow's saturday"
ha! I don't really feel that way but I am tired and a little anxious to get my seminar started and get good and sore.
Breeze, it's for those reasons you mentioned and more that I do the martial arts. I've always been involved in some martial art. it's like a moving meditation sometimes. othertimes it simply teaches me to be assertive and look out for myself!
love to see picture of you with midget wrestling dude.nosce te ipsum

Hi y'all! Well, I survived last night okay after all, and thank y0u all for your commentary. You're right, Mr. D., you are pity-party poopers!:H It still amazes me how I can feel connected to people I've never even met, but I do, and it is good!
I'm confused, Paddy, it's 6:40 pm, but dawn? Am I confused or are you? LOL! You and Mr. D. are right, though. When I have really gotten down and talked turkey with some of my colleagues, many of them have concerns about their drinking too. It is a surprise, of course, but also a bummer that we all can't be more open about this because of the shame of it.
My BIL is trying to "cut down" on his drinking after my sister asked him to leave the home a few weeks ago after he once again became verbally abusive while in his cups. (He's back now.) You can never tell which way he is going to go when he's been drinking. He can be very funny or a real b*st*rd. He won't listen to anyone or consider AA or any other program, so my sister is hesitant to mention MWO to him. It is so sad. I don't doubt there is another ejection from the home coming again in the future.
Hi, Kitty, you might not get too much dopa effect yet, hopefully, it won't be too bad for you. I find that I'm just as ditzy when I'm not drinking as when I am.
Hi Mr. D., you must be getting into great shape with all this jujitsu! Is Mrs. D impressed? You sound like you're feeling pretty good and very optimistic.
Breez, you do sound like a wildlife magnet. Animals are wonderful to have around, but so much work!! And we all know who gets to do it, right? I'm sorry that your little birdie didn't make it. :upset:
Ima, I'm sorry that there is still strife in your household. It's too bad that your partner can't be a little more understanding about your daughter, after all, he is supposed to be the grownup here. Sorry that he is struggling with his drinking too. I'm glad that you are hanging in there, although I know it isn't easy. I'm glad that you will get a break on your vacation.
:goodjob:
Hi Trixie Track!
As for me, I'm heading over to dinner with some good friends who are also drinking buddies. They are really supportive of me, though, so I won't be pressured or anything. I bought a bottle of AF wine in case I get tempted. I feel a little badly about that, but it does give me comfort in social situations, and I'd rather do that than just sit at home. Things are reasonably good otherwise--Maddy and my sister are now safely in Paris--they called me this afternoon. Nice sigh of relief!
Anyway, I've gotta run and take care of the menagerie of animals I have here. One dog and six cats! Yikes! I am DEFINITELY missing my sis right now!
Hugs to all,:l
Kathy
Hi Noella, we were posting at the same time! I hope your mood lightens when you get away for the weekend. Enjoy!AF as of August 5th, 2012
