Good morning all! - Yes it's a long thread - but has anyone read through the original 30 days one? they're now on 3 months or something, still going strong and are about 1500 posts in! I have to admit to now just reading the last few pages, but it could be a bit difficult to break into if you're new to it??

Good to see you here, Hannah and well done for keeping AF even through difficult times. It's good that hubbies coming from a similar point because you can support each other. DG - it's great that hubby's noticed a change! - and what a positive change. Don't dare to try and pare down your posts - I love the enthusiasm and energy - it's what gets me going in the morning! ANd Buffy - good luck with the blank canvas - I've had one waiting for the last 15 years and have yet to find time/inspiration/courage to do anything with it - maybe you starting will give me the extra push I need???

Hello to everyone else - got to run as got appointments to meet this morning and lunch to prepare for visitors. It's finally sunny here so maybe this is our summer?! I'd better try and enjoy it while it's around... Fond thoughts to all in the UK at this time!

Take care, and check in with all later... :l

Hannah - well done on day 6!

Happy - same for day 2!

Doggy - way to go - 16 days! YAY (NOOOOOOOOO to the finger gags! We love reading your posts! - even if I usually have to read them in several installments of a couple of hours each! )

Lilac - :goodjob: day 1 is the hardest!!

Tahlula, - into day four!!! - you are building a head of steam there!

Morning to you too Arial - hope your day isn't too sunny - or us UKers will get jealous - still pretty grey up here in Scotland today!

I am just starting day 8 - and feeling good - She Who Must Be Obeyed had a couple of glasses of vino last night - and I DIDN'T! - and - I wasn't even slightly tempted.

SWMBO actually said she might join me in my 30 day challenge
She doesn't seem to have my "self destruct" tendencies when it comes to alcohol - but she is currently drinking about 1.5 to 2 bottles of wine a week - so she is at the upper end of the UK government guidelines for women.
As she herself says - it is just a habit - so, you never know, I might even have some AF company at home as well as on here!

Doggy - I'm still keeping my gold star collection all polished
        see -*******

Take care all - and have FUN today - do something different!

          Woo hoo!

          I made 7 days! That's 1 week or 1/4 of month or 168 hours or 10,080 minutes or 604,800 seconds without a drink! (and I didn't even think about drinking for 10,000 of those seconds). ;}

Thanks Buffy! This was your idea in the first place. I'm glad you asked me to join you on this quest.

          DG, you can call me magic man anytime you like. Sounds kinda sexy ;}

Hi Hanna, I'm an empty nester now too. My daughter and her boyfriend were living with us for the last couple of years, sitting around playing video games and text messaging all night and sleeping all day... Now they are both working for the same company (they are joined at the hip, can't spend a moment apart)... They love their job and are doing great.

It's amazing to see how much they have changed... and also nice to not to pick up after them... remind them to turn off the lights, take out the trash... nag them about doing something with their lives...

It is strange to be at this stage of my life though... My wife and I are both extremely busy so I don't think the reality of the change has really registered.

I'm fine with a new thread, as long as someone comes up with a really clever title, something completely original.

When I was playing in bands years ago I was always trying to get the guys to change the name of our band to "Free Beer"... My argument was that we sell out every show if the marquee that said "Free Beer Tonight"

I don't think that would be an appropriate title for a new thread though...

On that note I will say goodnight to y'all

Morning (or night!) Magic Music Man,

Well done on your week AF - for folks with wiring like ours, that is a thing to be real proud of.

Keep on keeping on my friend - you are doing great!

Your "Free Beer" name for the band sounds like a great plan - but - the way I play, I DO have to supply free beer to get anyone to listen!

Never mind - I'm enjoying myself, so my "music" is making at least one person happy!

            Take care

Good morning or whatever time of day it is in your zone!! Very happy to be here again today. As a mentor of mine always says, every day above the ground is a very good day.

Welcome Lilac to the Magic Music Man and Buffy challenge!! Congratulations on Day 1. I admire you for what you have accomplished - a long stretch of AF, moderation on your vacation, and back to AF. Step up and grab a gold star for that achievement!! http://www.mingara.com.au/media/gold%20star.jpg

Tah, contratulations on Day 3!! You are doin' great.

Arial I'm glad the sun is out for you. A busy day sounds great actually - those generally keep me out of trouble and it feels good to accomplish a lot in the end.

Hannah I LURVE your Doggy Avatar!!! Take an extra gold star today because you too are a Doggygirl and for figuring out how to put up an avatar. (I too was challenged with that - couldn't explain to you how to do it cuz I'm not 100% sure how it happened for me. MAGIC maybe!) Have an excellent AF day today.

Satori you crack me up with She Who Must Be Obeyed. Congratulations on getting to Day 8, especially since SWMBO had some drinks last night. That would sure be a challenge for me - WE CAN DO THIS!! I'm happy to see you taking veree good care of your star collection. **secret note to Satori - how much do you charge to train other Mr.'s in the wisdom of SWMBO?**

Magic Music Man!!! WHEE!!! Congratulations on 7 days. That is AWESOME. 1 week on the path is right. LOL - on your breakdown into the seconds you weren't thinkin' of drinkin'. I love the "Free Beer" band name!!

Speaking of beer, I have a theory. I believe everyone is born with lifetime beer ration. The rationed amount SHOULD last you well into your 90's. I apparently blew through my entire lifetime ration by the time I graduated college. Seriously. That's where "work hard play hard" started and I learned to LURVE my beer. But shortly after gradulation, it just left me. No my desire for booze mind you - just any remaining taste for beer. I probably have averaged 1 beer per year since then. And yes, this long story is going somewhere.

Mr. Doggy and I went to the after hours event yesterday. I DROVE just because I could!! Even though my own desire for beer left me long ago, there are always people around drinking beer at social events whether at my own home or somewhere else. The event yesterday was hosted by an accounting firm in their relatively new office. So it's not like there is stale beer in the carpet or anything like in an old bar. I was overwhelmed by the smell of beer. Funny how maybe 10 open beers in the room got to me like that.

Anyway, all was well!! Paranoia free mingling is nice. I drank water - the only person who even said "water?" was a young gal from the caterer. Probably salivating at the idea of "free booze" and couldn't imagine why I asked the way to the water cooler. I just said my butt is too big. Literally, that's an exact quote. That shuts 'em up! I think she was afraid I would sit on her if she said anything else. True also sadly, but I am workin' on it!

I had a good plan so I thought. I had dinner prep all done before we left so we could come home and cruise right into dinner. Mr. Doggy feeds the dogs, so I checked e-mail while he was doing that. Shit. A pissy e-mail arrives - just BS between women. In days of old this would have been cause for drinking, ranting and raving. Yes, I allowed the situation to ruin my evening in a way - was NOT hungry and couldn't "let go" of the situation without taking action. Completely 100% sober, and after several hours of pondering while keeping myself busy with mundane stuff, I decided I'm done with that childish BS and said so. that was about 11PM last night so I'm sure the people involved probably think I was smashed or something. NOPE. No time for estrogen related BS anymore. I'm sad about it in a way, but cleaning the junk out of the trunk is part of this process I guess. Onward and forward.

If you are still reading this, please get yourself some bacon and eggs before you pass out from exhaustion.

Hmm.. snazzy new name for the 30 day challenge..... How about something like 30 Day AF BoozeBeast Busters? (say it 10 times fast to prove you're sober LOL!!!)

WHEE!! It's day 16 and I refuse to let the BS get me down. OUT with the BS I tell you!! OUT OUT OUT!!

              DG
              Day 16 AF loud and proud * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * (on the back half of this challenge which is un.frickin.believable!!)

Satori- Wishing you and your buff abs a great af day. I think we are on the same af day but you are in Scotland, so maybe not ?!

Dg- Great work staying sober at the event. Sounds quite "eventful." Do NOT let a be-ahtchy woman get you down. Puuuleeez! You are the master dogster and she is just a doggie t%rd! Awesome job in tweener land!!!!!

I am nervous (for the first time since I started) about this weekend. The almostfamous family is heading to the big city (Reminiscent of Beverly Hillbillies?) for the weekend. I will remain strong but it's the first time I am just a tad nervous. Lots of dining out but I will be enjoying lots of free water. Hubby will thank me when the bill comes with all that money he'll save. WAIT maybe that means I can get desert...oh crap I am on a diet so that's out too. Wait.... maybe soda...sh*t gave that up too. I better be a picture of health by the time I hit 40!!!!! Great day to everyone and I am sorry if I left anyone out.

                  I am entering day 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost famous - I know what you are feeling. I had my first outing on Tuesday and I was scared as hell! The good news is that when I got to the restaurant, not only did I not have any cravings, I was calm and happy through the whole thing!

It can be done, just stay strong! Big high five for day 7!!!!

                        Beer rations

DG-- I have used a similar theory ... mine has been that we each get "tickets" and I have used mine up... remember when amusement parks took tickets -- oh what a bummer when they ran out! Same idea applies to wine in my case! (I have been using imaginary tickets for years)

Almost Famous -- we are the same age I have a similar goal to enter 40 with a better lifestyle! Although I am not sure how old Liz Taylor is in my avatar! One of these days I'll change it if I can figure it out -- Yay Hannah and DG for their Avatar skills! I read a post from Hannah yesterday & the avatar was a pretty sunset-- then this cute puppy appeared! (Can you tell that read more than post!!!!)

probably not cool! Although I think it would be popular!

Raining here in the US this AM... good for the complexion! I am drinking part diet gingerale and club soda right now -- very good alternative beverage!
                        Enjoy the day!

That picture of Elizabeth Taylor was from National Velvet. She was born in 1932 and National Velvet was made in 1944, sooo she would have been 12 years old.
