    Saturday 11th August

Hello AFers and Happy Saturday. Today is dog training day where the 'boys' will drink their beer, and I will drink my iced tea! It gets easier every week. Kimba (in my avatar) is recovering TOO nicely from her spay. We are supposed to keep her "quiet and calm" - no jumping, no stairs, no running around like a crazy girl, etc for TWO WHOLE WEEKS. We are only on Day 3 and she is acting like her usual nut job self. I just hope we can keep her from messing up her stitches. We donate enough $$ to the vet as it is! It will be AF day 30+2 (challenge #2 underway!) around here! No way will i be drinking.

Lisa, I'm very happy that I am 10 pounds down eating low carb and exercising. I follow a hybrid of Atkins and Protein Power if I had to pin it down. All of these plans including South Beach and many others have a lot of cross over. Happycamper - Dr. Atkins did not die of a heart attack BTW - he got a concussion when he fell on an icy sidewalk. I vary my proteins a lot - beef, pork, chicken, fish, shellfish. EGGS!!!! I vary the veggies a lot too - pretty much any veggies you can think of. For me, I will probably start re-introducing low GI fruit when I'm about 1/2 way to goal. To spikey in the blood sugar department for me right now, but that might not be true for others. Anyway, I'm open for diet buddies that's for sure!

Anyway...have a very awesome AF day everyone!!!!

    Saturday 11th August

Hi DG: Isn't it great to wake up wo/a hangover? I can barely remember the feeling. Tomorrow is my grandson's 4th b-day party. My son-in-law's family is very big & are huge beer drinkers. Theses get-togethers are usually drink-fests. Last year I brought my bottle of pinot & drank it hard & fast. I blacked out most of the party. I can't remember the food, the opening of presents, the cake, etc. This year will be a different story. I'm getting more experienced w/being AF at parties. Yes, I'll have a plan. Yes, I'll be vigilant. But, I'm not as nervous as I used to be around people drinking. Have a great Sat. & Sun. Love, Mary

Groovy Saturday ABerooooos! nothing I can't do on day 52......

Doggygirl, sounds like you are on the right track on the diet...congrads! my boss has been on the original Atkins diet since 1969!!! huge success story too. Glad Kimba is happy too.
Retteacher, you're sounding very resolved and strong...bravo!

Dx and I saw the new Bourne movie last night. wooooo! good fun! nice to see action moveis that are 'smart' and well acted. Damon and Stiles are great together.

Well, off to my rifle shoot. I get to lay down in the weeds in the desert and try to hit tiny targets through the waves of heat distorsion...arg! it's very tedious. I'd NEVER do this kind of discipline with a hangover.

      be well me loverlies!

        Hi everyone,

First of all, I'm happy to see Mary around. Rare but always a pleasure. Hope everything goes well at the party. I know how hard it must be, but I'm sure you'll be ok, as you have been the past few times with a good plan in place. I'm pretty much doing the same thing, with all the functions I have to attend to in my job.

Well, DG, that's a lot of stars ... so far to that starry experience, ha, ha. So what did Atkins die off? Famine? Or did death kill him? ;-) Or did he end up choking on a pizza?

Hey, Det, what's that juicy talk about laying down on the weeds trying to hit tiny targets through the waves of heat, etc, etc ... You're not trying another Testbed/Testes experiences on us again?! ;-))

Ok smokey, I'm hitting the sack. It's time for little Paddies to sleep here in Asia.

DG - Happy Saturday to you too, and all the others. Glad Kimba is doing so well, even if she is a little too frisky - at least she is feeling well.

My own diet is an ongoing struggle. I am one of these people who swells up like a balloon if I eat too much salt, so I really try to stay away from salty foods - but you'd be amazed at the huge amounts of salt that are in even "non" salty foods. For example, Nestea ice tea has a lot of salt in it, whereas Lipton does not. Also, I have been told my cholesterol is a bit high, so that cuts out a lot of cheese and higher fat meats. The regime I have hit upon that seems to work for me is roughly this: A bananna and/or a bran bar for breakfast, a protien smoothy and another piece of fruit for lunch, snacks in the afternoon of yogurt, more fruit, or another bran bar. Because this so far is low salt, high potassium, I can allow myself a little salt at supper, say, in a sauce , so usually a meat, a veggie, and a small amount of starch, but I like to eat well, sorta gormet, at supper. I am drinking perrier or store brand sparkling mineral water w a squeeze of lime, because a lot of soft drinks are also high sodium. Before bed I may have a bowl of berries w vanilla yogurt and granola on top. That's when I'm behaving myself - when I'm not, anything goes! One real test for me is that across the street from my workplace is a store that sells pizza - big temptation there - I often break down and buy not one slice, but TWO for lunch!:bang Holidays, where we are staying in a hotel and eating out most meals, I have a real problem. I know well enough to pack one pair of jeans that are too big for me at the beginning of the week, because they will definitely fit at the end! In fact, hubby and I went to Victoria for a week in May, and by the time we got home, I was wearing my yoga pants, and had put on ten pounds, mostly water weight. It was all gone by the end of the first week home, so definitely mostly water. There are definitely times I could use more control, and my usual trigger is stress. I would welcome a diet buddy just to keep me motivated!

            Day 5

            Hi all!

Hey sorry about the Atkins thing, but he did have a heart attack in 2002, before the icy fall. I knew he had one I thought that had killed him.

I would love for us to all be diet buddies (that is anyone that needs it) or just general advice about what is ok to eat when having struggles with booze. I am on Day 5 now and am really craving the carbs. I am giving in now to stay off the booze. I am just generally very hungry and want to eat until I am really really full, like gross full. I want to stuff my face with food instead of booze! Is it better for me to try to stay away from all sugars right now or won't that make it worse (the cravings). Shouldn't I give my body the sugar it is craving in some way right now? Just so confused!

D what are these tiny targets? Do you eat them??

Doggy good luck today and teacher have a great time at the party.

It does feel great to not have a hangover! I finally slept pretty much through the whole night last night and I finally did NOT get the sweats. I guess the worst is over! :h
Sunny days, sweeping the, clouds away. On my way, to where the air is sweeeet!!! Can you tell me how to get, how to get to......LOL

Hi DG, Mary, Det, Paddy, Hannah, happy and all to come.

Fantastic AF run DG, not to mention the weight loss. Am also dieting to accelerate the weight-loss now that I am AF.........nothing too ambitious for me, just eating healthily, but am going to have a look at the South Beach Diet, as I think that may suit me very well.

Mary, you do shine so brightly, and how wonderful to celebrate your grandson`s birthday completely sober, savouring every moment of the occasion..........hope you have a great time.

Hannah, you`ve just highlighted one of my problems that I conveniently shove to the back of my mind........I am a salt addict..........I even salt the hottest Indian curries!! You just got me to look at the ingredients on the Diet Irn Bru Can I`m drinking at the mo.........says sodium = trace, so that`s something in my favour. LOL

              Happy,
Glad to hear you`re starting to find AF more comfortable. I think if your body is craving sugar in lieu of alcohol, it wouldn`t do any great harm to allow yourself a little sweet treat just for the next few days. Weirdest thing...........am now 13 days AF, and am eating healthily as I wish to lose about 40 lbs..........looks as if the weight is literally going to drop off, as since I stopped drinking, I have very little appetite and am not craving sugary goodies.

Hope you all have a splendid day!!

              Much love,

              Starlight Impress x

yeah Camper day 5 and you didn't have the sweats definately means you are on the train to wellness at full speed!
I agree on the carb thing...what the heck...be bad here and there. When you are good and strong you can work on fine tuning your carb control.

eating my tiny targets? no...not unless I developed a sudden taste for cardboard
