    me, my head and I....

MM thanks so much too. I missed this post the first time round and I'm very glad to have read it now. You write very well and brought back things that, like with others, I would prefer to keep firmly as a memory (fading) and not a reality!

Oh to be able to look at the girl in the mirror without dying of shame!!! How many people know what a gift that is I wonder?!?!? We are amazing!

And you're doing great MM . thanks for your posts; they're really inspiring....

    Love

      me, my head and I....

really excellent - I too have a very busy brain - me and my bloke joke about hearing it tick, tick, tick away all the time.
It won't let me relax, I posted in holistic section earlier today about wanting to start to meditate. I have low self esteem/anxiety so criticising me/worrying are my committee's two specialist subjects.
If you have any beginners meditation tips that would be great - Satori and Lotus have already very kindly given me tips but the more the merrier.
      thanks

Hi Bear... I can give you some suggestions based on a Buddhis perspective as that is my practice. The book I give my meditation students to start with is a book called Mindfulness in Plain English.. Here is a free PDF version:

        http://www.urbandharma.org/pdf/mindf...in_english.pdf

        It is very helpful!

If you are going to start alone I may recommend starting with some guided meditations. One of my favorites is:

Insight Meditation: A Step-By-Step Course on How to Meditate, by Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein. It has a workbook and affirmation cards.

I also recommend really finding a local group to meditate with. You could google to see if ther is a local Sangha, or maybe through a church if that is your preference.

        Hope this helps!

        Namaste!

        MM
Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them, but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight.

          :bump:

This was written so long ago, but it was so well done I haven't forgotten it. I searched and am glad I found it.

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

              me, my head and I....

MM: Welcome to abs-land. Whenever we diverge from a path (i.e. your experiment w/modding), we learn a whole lot. I know those voices. For me, the deal-breaker was all the hiding & subterfuge. It was robbing me of my self-esteem & spirituality. I've now reconciled myself to living wo/drinking. It's been over 1.5 years abs, & once the initial withdrawal (both physical & emotional) was over, I realize that the sober life is the one I'm meant to live. Good luck! I don't usually venture away from the AA threads, but I saw yours, I remember you quite well & wanted to welcome you here. Mary
