    BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

    Hi Guys,
I think I am posting out of order. I brought my articles to the dr. and he didn't even look at them....but he did prescribe the topamax for me. Luckily my insurance covered it this time and hopefully they will continue. He may have told them about my migraines which it is indicated for and that may have done it. 100 mgs. a day to start for the first month..guess i'll see how it goes. So far so good on my own...10 days AF today. Thankyou all for your support and encouragement. I don't think I would have made it without you all
I've been trying to incorporate some exercise into my program and went walking yesterday. I over did it though and hurt my ankle. I had broken it a year ago very badly and just had the plates and pins out in July. I was hoping I could get back into the walking but guess i'll have to take it more slowly. Maybe i'll use the exercise bike for a bit since that isn't weight bearing but still gets it moving and helps get the endorphins going. I had to have 3 surgeries on it so really I am lucky to be walking on it as well as I am....guess I was expecting too much too soon.
It's after 1:00 am so I guess I'll try and turn in earlier this morning. Hope everyone has a good day.

      BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

Good Morning fellow booze busters and all TOBB.

Hannah, sorry to hear you are not as upbeat as usual. Your posts are amazing and I am really impressed by the way you keep tabs on us all and at this stage with so many it must be nearly impossible. Sending you big hugs and wish I had a funny story to cheer you up with. Also thinking about DG, she contributed so much to this thread and made us newbies feel so welcome, hope you are doing ok DG, we are all thinking of you.

FMF, glad you enjoyed your day yesterday and your meal out. Cannot believe the profitaroles tasted so disgusting, must be the brandy!! You know I had two truffles last night, one came with the coffee and I chose another Jameson one and it too was disgusting, too rich, maybe our taste buds are changing, hope so.

Day 14 for me and feeling good. I have my big challenge tomorrow, a wedding. It's also the half way mark to my 30 days AF. This is the first social event I have been at and in some ways am dreading it. I have been dealing with alcohol being around as my hubby still drinks wine every night and I have had to deal with that. I keep telling myself its just more of the same. Am packing my all one, the supplements, the cd's etc as we are staying in the hotel 2 nights. Wont be able to check in tomorrow but will let you all know on Sunday how I got on.

      Have a great week-end everyone.

        BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

H folks - HMMMMM! seems like there is a little gloom around at the moment.

HannahDeb - Hope you feel better soon - I can sympathise - I have been a little "off colour" myself!
I have just too many things to do just now I think - but I MAY escape to the hills tomorrow - just for the day - but it all helps to recharge the mental / spiritual batteries y'know.

I aim to climb An Teallach - which might mean something to the other Scotsmen / Scotswomen on here!
An Teallach is Gaelic for "the Forge" - probably because of the swirling, smoke like clouds often seen around the summit of this mountain.

I need to escape from the day to day hassle of modern life for a while every now and then that is for sure!

        For example:
I went to the petrol (gas) station at lunchtime today - and there were dozens of cars waiting to fill up (normal for Friday - everyone filling up before the weekend!). After about 10 minutes I eventually got to be second in line to a guy with a HUUUUUGE off roader, who not only filled up the equally HUUUUUUGE gas tank which seemed to take forever, - but then produced four 5 gallon cans out of the back of the thing - and proceeded to fill those up as well.
Eventually he went off to pay, and then came back out about 3 minutes later cos he had forgotten his credit card.
Well - he eventually found his card in the truck, paid, and came out and moved out of the way so I could fill up.
Well - WHADDDYA KNOW?????? When I tried to fill up - the pump wouldn't work! - Apparently the computer system that controls the pumps had just crashed - and would take 15 minutes or so to get back upand operational.
So I didn't get my tank filled up - I will have to go back later.
        You gotta laugh!

Indigo - glad you got the meds sorted - they should help!
Take it easy on that ankle! It takes time!
Build back up slowly. One of my friends here did something similar playing football a couple of years ago and is still not 100%!
In fact I have another friend who decided to take the fast route down off a mountain while ice climbing (ie he fell off!) who is also still not back to full mobility after two years. Ankles need looking after!
In his case - after falling 400 feet and ending up with "only" a broken ankle - he was actually quite pleased with the outcome :wow: !

Climbers - they are all mad I tell you!

Chief - I am doing a load more reading now that I am AF - I got out of the habit while I was drinking - but I am enjoying a quiet half hour reading before I go to bed these days too.
It is amazing all the things that we were prepared to give up in order to be able to poison ourselves every night - isn't it?

Finding - glad you enjoyed your seafaring adventure - and isn't it weird how our attitudes change - mind you - I don't like profiteroles even without brandy cream! (Come to think on it - I don't like cream either!)

Rustop well done on the 14 days - that is half way (almost) to the 30 - already. Doesn't time fly when we are having fun?

July - yep - I'm worried about Doggy as well - I PMed her too - with no reply yet!
Hope she is OK! This place just isn't the same without her!

Big HI to Rob, Londoner, Kyna, MM, Star, and any other TOBB(TM)

        Keep on Keeping On!

I have a "leaving" party to go to tomorrow evening as some friends are leaving to work in the USA for a few years - hope I can make it back from the hills in time!
There will be LOTS of Booze flowing - but I am not in the slightest concerned - I know I will be OK and much happier AF!
AND - there is the added advantage is that I can drive everyone home afterwards!

I probably won't be here again till Monday - so have a good weekend everyone - see you Monday.

(and - Doggy - phone home!!!!!!!)

        Love :l

                  Booze Busters,

                  Have a great weekend.

Wet and warm in the mountains of Tennessee, but the sky is clearing tonight for what looks like a beautiful weekend ahead.

I hope we can all put a few AF stars on the wall come Monday.

                  Take care.

                    Hi everyone ,
Just wanted to quickly check in and see how everyone is doing. Today is day 11 for me but I didn't make it to a meeting. I am reading some good books, using this site, trying to stay busy and eat healthy food. It seems to be working so far, thank God. I try not to forget to thank Him when I remember because I know I couldn't do it on my own. Thanks Satori for your advice about my ankle...sorry you won't be able to mountain climb this weekend. Congratulations to everyone on their milestones AF... keep up the good work.
I may be going to Kentucky on Monday for a bit(not sure how many days) and won't have internet. I'll post when I get back though. Then again I might not go...not sure yet, just thought i'd mention it in case.
                    Guess I better turn in....night all:hug:

                      BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

                      Hello Fellow Booze Busters!

Sorry to be such a gloomy gus last night. Feeling better tonight, almost back to my old cheerful self. I have had a couple of nice things happen today; 1) My hubby got a bonus at work, and we are busy trying to decide what to do w it (prob do something boring like put it on the mortgage, or invest it), and 2) My son, who has been impatiently waiting for his condo to be finished (new construction) has finally got word he can take possession on the 21st. This is his first "house" so is pretty excited. Right now he is actually living at his gf's parents place, so will be happy to have their own space.

Rob - Hope you feel better tomorrow. Stomach flue? :getwell: No fun!

Satori - Whoooo Hoooo! You have turned 60!!!! (days AF, calm down!) It's after midnight now, so get ready to party!!!!! Since you were complaining about the much-more-hot cheerleaders at July & Cheif's party, I am throwing one more decadent bash. But then, I'm hanging up my pom poms. Starting to feel like a pimp....... Anyways, enjoy! Sorry the mountain climbing did not work out. You'll have to find something else to take the edge off - we all seem to be getting right into cleaning garages and closets. . . . . . ??????

Indigo - Yay about the topamax, Yowzers about the ankle. Ankle injuries take such a long time to get over, being as they are hauling us around all the time, poor things. Hope it feels better soon - have you had any physio or accupuncture? I messed up several of the tendons in my right foot last spring, digging up sod for new flower beds. Apparently the arch of your foot is not intended to be used to repeatedly pound a shovel into dried out sod (imagine!). It completely hooped me for walking, golfing, and basically screwed up the whole summer. It still aches like crazy when it is cold outside, more than a year later. The only upside is that now if I need any digging done, my hubby is right there w the shovel!

FMF - Sorry didn't comment on your boating (ferry ride) day. Sounds lovely. Quite an interesting evening, hmmmmm??? Good for you sticking to your guns, both w the not drinking, and the not staying over. Don't believe I've ever had one of those fancy little desserts you speak of - sound incrediibly rich and sinfull! And Wow, now you have taken up Flaminco dancing? You are a woman of many tallents and surprises!

Rustop - You won't be reading this unless you check the thread early before you leave - but will be sending you good vibes and best wishes while you are at the wedding. Be strong, you can do this, look how far you've come already!

Hello to July and TOBB (love that term!) Hope everybody has a great AF weekend, and we can post a whole bunch of shiny new stars next week. If you are around this weekend, be sure to stop in at Satori's 60th and wish him well.

                        Hullo everybody
Day 20 for me, which feels great. I have also lost 7 pounds, which is also good news!

The weather in London today is just beautiful. I walked around a woodland churchyard this morning looking for a grave and it was so peaceful, even magical with all the dappled light falling through the trees onto greened and ancient tombs.

Back in the land of the living, the children next door are hosting a Fairy Party-such fun to see!

                        Bye for now
                        keep up the good work!

                          BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

                          Good Mornin' Booze Busters!!

I'm feeling much better today. I've got this little cardiac thing-SVT supraventricular tacchycardia. Big word for superfast heart rate. Once in awhile the thing will kick up to >200 beats per minute. Not fun. I was feeling generally cruddy and thought that I might have picked up a bug. Anyway with medication the problem passes in time. Unfortunatley, I feel pretty bad for some time afterwards. I missed my granddaughters 2nd birthday party,:upset: .

Anyway, Big congrats to SATORI 60 days is quite impessive. :award: :award: Sorry, that your mountain trip got "washed out" but hope you enjoy the festivities tonight, zipping along in your new Alpha Romero.

Hannah- Glad to hear that you had a better day yesterday. Those financial windfalls are always a nice surprise. Are you going to be in on your son's big move?

FMF- We're going to have to change your name from English Rose to Dancin' Queen. You're going to have to draw up your own anatomy plates to show us where it hurts. BTW, did you ever tell us about your shop?

Londoner- Great news on 20 days. You chose a peaceful way to spend your morning.

Indigo- Hope your travels are safe and that you'll be adding some stars to your 11 days. I lived in Ky. for a few years, it is so beautiful this time of year.

Rust- Day 15 for you!! Hope everything goes well at the wedding. Stop back and let us know how it went.

July- Wow, warm rain in the mountains. That is one of the things that I miss from Kentucky. There is something almost mystical about the effect of the rain when you're in the woods. I remember being down in one of the "hollers" when it was raining. It was so quiet, just the sound of the rain on the trees. The sun was trying to come out and gave everything a greenish haze and there was a mist rising up from the forest floor. And the smell, oh my, it was a combination of the freshness of the rain and the woodsy fragrance of the old leaves and branches. I wish I could bottle that fragrance. Thanks for tweeking that memory July.

Speaking of cleaning--I cannot see the top of my desk so I'd better get on it.

BTW- Tomorrow's Hannah's big 60 I believe. Hmmm-I have GOT to figure out how to put pics in the posts!!

                          Have a great weekend all
                          Love and Peace

                            Hi guys, how's it going?

Thanks so much, FMF, for the lovely party. I am picturing in my head a big, beautiful bouquet, very sweet of you! All you BB's are just top notch, the best buddy's this Booze Bustin' gal could ever hope for! We're in this together!!!!! Charge!!!!!!

Just thought I'd check in and say hi here - the thread is pretty quite today.

Rob - Boy, sure hope you are doing okay. :l I've heard of supraventricular tacchycardia before, know someone else who has it. He is perfectly healthy otherwise, but for some reason has this very fast heartbeat. You the same? Hope the meds work fast. Too bad about your dranddaughter's Bday party, maybe you and she can have a small private one?

We are very much involved in our son's move, because he is pretty much a babe in the woods at this point. We are very proud of him, he is only 22 but has saved and built himself a home. Something we have never done - we've renovated several pre-existing houses, but never built one from scratch. So we tell him we are living vicariously through him! When he first started this, he had not yet met his gf, so he asked me to help him w picking out flooring, paint, etc, and we have gone shopping together several times for all the miscellancous "stuff" he needs. He doesn't even have a credit card, but has a complete housefull of furniture bought and in storage, all his electonic stuff, dishes, you name it. After he is moved in he and I are going on a trip to Edmonton to shop for pictures, etc - which will be our housewarming gift to him. So it's pretty exciting for all of us.

Hi Anna. Someday I would love to see London. Our son went there on a school trip when he was in grade 12, and he loved it. Came home w pictures of all the hot cars instead of historical sites - typical teenaged boy! Glad you enjoyed your walk, sounds sort of mystical almost. We had a really beautiful day again here, wierd how our weather can be so horrible one day and really nice the next, but that's the way it is around here!

Well, all, super short post tonight but was a quiet day all around. Hope everybody is enjoying their weekend, and I'm sure we'll be busy again on Monday.

Good night to all the TOBB, talk at ya tomorrow!

                              BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

                              Hi everyone,

Vista problems fixed now! You little beauty, now I can read, type away and listen to music, just got some Neil Young on at the moment.

My Own Woman - Welcome to the group  I hope your daughter is recovering well from her surgery. Make sure you visit here as much as you can in the next few days and discuss how you’re feeling about the change with your friend moving out. I gave up the smokes at the same time too and I feel soooo much better after 3 weeks.

Rob – a tardy congratulations on reaching your month without booze. That is a terrific achievement. I also was interested to read how you had the craving for a beer with lunch but overcame it and had a Sprite ... all power to you. I just think the more often you have a lemonade with lunch, the easier it will be, as it will become the norm. I suppose it is a lesson for all of us to prepare for those types of situations and associations, whether they be work drinks or something else.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis but also pleased that it has been made so that you have the medication you need. I hope things aren’t too uncomfortable and that you make good progress in the coming weeks.

Hannah – a late congratulations for your 60 days, another big milestone, well done! I'm very impressed with your son's efforts in building a home for himself. Is he a tradesman?

The Londoner ... you seem to be doing really well, losing pounds, going for walks and enjoying the laughter of children. Congratulations on your progress. Do you spend much time in Highgate Village?

Chief – I welcome your words of wisdom and support to all of us. Are you pleased to be doing more hours than you initially had thought? Keep up the good work.

Kyna – happy to see how well you’re going ... you and I are going to make one month on the same day!

To everyone else, I hope you’re well and your spirits are high. I will get around to sending a message to everyone, but there’s quite a few, so it’s going to take more than one post to get to everyone.

My news is that I’ve had a couple of social events with friends where there has been booze and I’ve been fine and enjoyed the night. I just have a lime and soda ...a bar woman thought I said vodka, lime and soda, but I saw her and stopped her. I have a sniff before I drink when someone else is buying. I am totally confident in going out now without drinking. I’m actually enjoying conversations more. I like live music and amazingly you don’t lose your hearing just because you’re not drinking. I think a lot of the drinking for me was tied up with social anxiety ... not drinking has made me just back myself more in these type of situations.

I spoke to friends from my cricket club and they were totally supportive of my AFness and said I should continue to play. I am very confident I wont drink at the club or anywhere else, plus they wouldn’t serve me in a worst case scenario. I will also play alot better not being hungover. As Rob said, I realise a craving could come when you're not expecting it, but I cannot forsee myself drinking anywhere because I'm comfortable with being AF.

Anyhow, keep up the good work guys,

                              Benno 21st AF day.

PS Rob ... your 2 crazy monkeys dance very well to "Rockin' in the Free World"!

                                BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

Well its Day 16 for me and delighted to be going into the second half of my 30 days. Got through the dreaded wedding and actually had a wonderful day. Am very tired today as did not get to bed until 2.30 a.m. and danced the feet off myself!!!

I really prepared myself yesterday morning. I listened to 30 minute hypnosis tape, 60 min sublimal, took my all one and supplements and spent 30 minutes in the hotel gym on the stairmaster!! All that before I had my shower and went to the wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony, the weather stayed fine and as we were staying in the hotel, we went up to the rooms before the meal. This meant no hanging around in the bar. I accepted the champagne when it was going around and just raised the glass for the toasts, nobody even noticed that I was not drinking it. The music was very lively so a lot of time was spent on the dance floor and I just had water in between.

Am tired today but no hangover and I can now look forward to completing the end of the 30 days. That drink tracker with its row of 0's really kept me motivated!! Hope everyone is having a good week-end. Am taking it easy since we came back, just reading the Sunday papers and intend to get a Thai take away for dinner.
