Oh July- I have no answer for you. I think all of us who know her are worried about Doggygirl.

For her to be such a strong presence here and to suddenly drop out of sight is worriesome. The annonymity that is so important to this thread prevents us from obtaining personal information about each other. The drawback is, of course that there is no way to "check up" on each other if one of us goes missing.

I think it is the nature of these boards that people come and go. Regardless of who is here and who isn't, I think the most important thing for whoever is here at any given time to support and encourage whoever shows up on any given day. By and large I think we do a great job with that.

And another thing----since I'm on a roll. I've been on other message boards, some of them recovery boards and never have I been on one like this were people can say what is in their heart without fear of being attacked.

We all appreciate the humor and teasing that goes on here, but I just don't see people getting their jollies at other people's expense.

You asked if there is a place for discussion. Sure, we can discuss it here if you like.

Anybody else is welcome to chime in here, any suggestions?

Then go to "Edit Profile"
There is a place to enter a "Custom User Title".

Don't think you have to be a subscriber, but not sure.

Hi everyone,

Feeling like I need a check in this afternoon. Having a bit of a struggle right now with facing up to the impending sale of our house. It's a neccesary move - financially - but it's really hit me hard the past two days. This is the first house I've ever owned - the longest place I've ever lived (10 yrs) - we started from scratch, and every plant, every tree has a memory attached to it. My two cats are buried in the garden. My children were born here. It's a sweet, small village and there's so much attachment running rampant around in me right now that I feel seriously thrown off centre. As my hubby and children left for the day yesterday (school and work) I realised I felt really insecure, really scared, very vulnerable. Change is hard. I worry that we won't find another house we like, or a location as good ... Everything has become so phenomenally expensive here on the North Coast.

Today I kept myself busy, and knew that I had to do some yoga (helps me w/ depression) but once I stopped for lunch, that empty feeling returned. So I'm sitting with it, not wanting to drink or anything, but feeling definitely rattled ...

Anna, it's good to know that you, Benno and I are all on the same count, makes it easier. Like you, I am already trawling my mind for responses to the 'do I drink or not after the 30 days are up' question. I think we should definitely confer on this issue around the 28/29 day mark. What do you think? It sounds like you've already made your decision Lindzee, and at least that takes all the unneccesary head-miles out of the equation. I guess for me if there's no real craving, I may continue on as long as I can. I know myself though, I have to make a formal commitment (like this 30 days) or all bets will be off. Like you said Anna, I have a sneaky feeling that, for me, moderation will not be a happening thing. I've certainly never managed it very well before. My hubby has no addiction problems, and has been through so much with me, that he's relieved not to have alcohol in the house, and doesn't seem to miss it. I'm fortunate I know, as it makes it easier.

I have to say that it sounds amazing where you live Satori - albeit cold! You're right, Australia has some of THE most spectacular scenery I have ever seen. There's barely a day goes by that I'm not wildly grateful for the opportunity to live here (despite the pangs for the UK at times. You can't take the Londoner out of me, 20 yrs or not!). My other half is a guitarist (among other things) and nurtures a hand-crafted strat made by Chrus Kinman - a Sydney-sider I believe. All the guitars that have come and gone over the past two decades and still the Kinman reigns supreme!

Hannah, you are one busy woman! Dancing, singing and even drumming!

I think I'd better curb my posting - as you said, Hannah, they are virtually novels in progress. Re: the question, July, I agree w/ Rob, there seems no choice but to roll whith whoever shows up here on any given day. I didn't know Doggygirl, but appreciate your concerns. Sounds like pm's have already been done, and there isn't really much else that can be done. I also agree with Rob about the nature of these boards - they really are so active, so vital, so supportive, that no doubt those who leave, will surely be back again when they need the support. In the meantime, try not to worry and send your good wishes out into the ether...

Good morning everyone.

Its been a hectic few days so did not get much time to post. Rob and Hannah, hope you both are feeling better.

Kyna, change is always stressful but sometimes the thought is worse than the doing. Once you actually sell and start looking for something else you will feel better.

Satori - know the feeling when that happens, better luck later.

Day 18 for me and cannot believe that I am now approaching the end of my third week. I have tried the moderation thing in the past and it did not work so this time I want to get a decent AF stretch, maybe 90 days under my belt and then take it from there.

OK folks - War and Peace - take 2 - Part 1

An OK day here in Scottish land, but the autumn is definitely here now - it was 3 degrees C this morning according to the outside temp thingie in my car.
Turned out a fine but cold day!

Hannah - Hem Hem!!

I believe I need to correct a couple of inexactitudes here in case the newer members of this group get the wrong idea!

I was indeed on the male cheerleader team - but I wasn't expelled because I didn't "measure up" or because I didn't have the stamina - I used to run marathons for goodness sake!!!

I was unceremonioulsy dumped by a group of very insensitive ladies not a million miles from this thread!

If you recall - the whole squad were involved in a horrific road accident while speeding to get to YOUR 30 day party!
We then spent several weeks swathed in bandages (and even appeared IN bandages at one 30 day party such was our dedication)
And now! after we eventually get the bandages off - we find we have been superseded by a bunch of pretty boy actor types!

That dear Newcomers - is what REALLY happened!

Anyway - re guitar making:
I do it as a hobby - although a couple of people have tried to buy one in the past!
I can't sell them - too much time and loving care goes into making them.

I make and play electric guitars - playing mainly Rock, Blues/Rock and electric blues.
Influences are people like Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Gary Moore and old time blues men like Albert King etc.

Who was it that toured the Gibson factory? Kyna! One of the recent guitars I built was a copy of a Gibson "Flying V" I Always fancied owning one (Hendrix used a Fender Strat and a Flying V sometimes. I already had the Fender Strat - so I decided to make a V for myself)
I actually play my "V" more than any of the others - I actually prefer it over the "real" guitars (ie not built by me!) I own like the Strat.

I am returning to competition next year (triathlon - but am starting easy - it will be Sprint distance only!)

Anyway, I think the last post I attempted may have been lost cos I foolishly enquired about a fellow Scottish lady as she had been having some health worries lately - I have mentioned this minin "Jinx" before.

This is really P**ing me off.

There is a complete section re guitar making from my original long post that STILL hasn't gone - I must have tried to post it about 5 times now, I have logged out, cleared my IE cache - everything - and STILL this one section will not go!

What on earth is going on here??????
