BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

Let's try the first bit - AGAIN!

My elder son is into metal and hard rock - so I've built a couple of pointy axes for him - one is a BC Rich Warlock Lookalike and another is just our own design.
I am currently building a really weird one (again own design) I am trying to make a full sized guitar (in terms of neck length etc) - but to make it very compact for travelling with.
So - it has tuners at the bridge end and no headstock.
It also has chambers hollowed out of the body and ALL excess bodywork cut away to minimise weight.

Well - the last section is Just refusing to go - so - perhaps there is another Jinx word in that paragraph - I'll post it some other time when there are no gremlins about!

Hi Booze Busters!! I don't post regularly on your thread - its always so long and you seem to have something good going on here - don't want to intrude - but I do try to read when I can. Have I missed something but...... where is Doggy Girl?? I miss her posts!!

Bad luck coz it's really interesting!! Wow! Some science and skill there! All I can remember about guitars is that Fender and Jedson are, well, one good and one copy?? First hubby was into them in some way about 3 lifetimes ago!! (1977!!! Was I really there?!?!) We're pianos, fiddles, flutes and voice here (but do have two accoustic guitars as well that we can't play!) - can you build me a piano? Now that would be great!!

No - but I could build you a solid bodied futuristic minimalist electric violin - I have one partly made in my workshop right now!

looks a bit like this one

Satori, you sure are having posting problems today Wow, I'm Impressed by your guitar making! No wonder you can't bear to part with such works of art. Making a guitar takes such precision, makes me wonder how you were able to simultaniously have that hobby and a drinking problem. On the other hand I'll bet it helps in keeping you abstain since it requires such intense concentration My husband has one electric, a 12-string and a Martin, his favorite (he calls "her" Martina ). BTW, I'm the one who toured the Gibson Guitar Factory. While in Memphis we also went to the Rock 'n' Soul Museum which I loved! We're baby boomers and grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix though I have to admit I've never heard of Gary Moore or Albert King.

Regarding Doggygirl. I'm pretty new here but from reading her posts and the fact that she's a fellow Illinoisian, I kind of felt like she was a neighbor. She had such a strong personality and so enthusiastic about her new AF life that it's hard to imagine her just up and leaving. Even if she relapsed it would seem that she'd come back here to talk about it. I also am worried but agree there's nothing else that can be done. Hopefully she'll come back eventually and let us know she's alright.

Awwww [img][/IMG] sorry for your post problems. I don't know that I would have had the patience to continue to make the effort. Thanks.

I went to work today and got a lot of "boy, you look like crap" comments. However, I did make it through the day. Hubby is still feeling crappy and is somewhat surly, best just to hit and run--"can I get anything for you, love you, going to work on the computer for awhile, kiss kiss".

Oh for crying out loud FMF-Is there anything you don't do (besides drink)? Dancing, music, drumming, sailing. What a woman.

I hope that you are in some way able to resolve the situation with your parents. If they choose not to talk to you, it is their decision (stupid though it may be). If you end up with a mess on your hands because of their behaviour, I'm sure you'll deal with it with the same intelligence and grace that you always have.

FMF-I'm going to offer some unasked for and possibly some really bad advise here. From the background of your life that you've been kind enough to share with us, it seems to me that the move effort you put into trying to get close to your parents, the farther they pull back. I just have a feeling that they use it as a weapon to "keep you in line". It may be time for you to back off and let them come to you--or not. I just hate to see you knock yourself out trying to please people who obviously cannot be pleased. Just my 2cents worth (is that a bob? and what the heck are trainers and plus fours?)

Janice-Welcome, I'm glad you like to keep up with our crazy little group, feel free to join in anytime.

[img][/IMG] has got me spooked so I'll close this for now. I'll check back later.

Love and Peace

Hello fellow booze busters,

A cool night has come to the mountains of Tennessee, but it is mild compared to the reported chill of Scotland. We are at that time of year where it is still summer in the valley but autumn has arrived to the mountaintops. The Tennessee River flows nearby and beginning this week I have witnessed the early migration of summer birds.

Have a good AF night.

Hi Guys. Wow, I am totally out of my league in guitar speak. I couldn't play a musical instruement to save my life, but I am totally in awe of those who can. Satori, I am very impressed. It must take incredible precision to buld something like that. What other talents are you hiding? A man of many surprises!

BUT - What a Whinnnnnerrrr! Oh Boo Hoo, you got a few owies in your little crash and burn episode. You should have been over that long ago, you cry babies! Tell you what, I'll send a nice motherly type to kiss your boo boos all better, and then lets have no more of this snivelling, ok?

Kyna - I feel for you, moving out of your family home. It can be really gut wrenching, for sure. We have been married almost 29 years, and have moved several times, each time left a pet buried in the garden, and raspberry bushes and asparagus that was just getting mature. The only thing is that really, you will get attached all over again - I did it every time - and grow to love your new home too. The important thing to do is to do something to put your own personal stamp on it - paint the walls, or redo the flower beds - or whatever! Good luck with everything. And congrats to you on how well you are handling the temptation to calm your nerves and fears w alcohol. Weire gomna have to have an extra special party when the Booze Bustin' Triplets reach the magical 30!

Janice - We miss Doggygirl too, We have not heard from her since Sept 8th or so, so are not sure what is going on. We are very concerned amd hope she will come back soon.

Hi to Rustop, FMF, July, Rob (LOVED BREAKFAST!), and all TOBB.

Hope everyone has another good AF day tomorrow! Attached files

Rob - thank you so much....actually perfect advice. And I am very touched that you posted it... I'm going to bung it down in a post coz it really helps to 'send things out there' and I hope that's ok..... I've written things down for years but something happens when they're 'sent out somewhere'!!! I just don't want to 'dump' too much.... (lol, typed 'sump' instead of 'dump' but actually rather apposite coz it's a bit like getting all the cr*p oil out of the bottom of the sump so a car can run better in the future!!!)

Um, I do loads of things which is fun but I can assure you that I am Jack of all trades and Master of none!!! Just good to be doing the things I gave up all those years ago for men, kids, jobs etc..... I just really wonder why I took up the bottle because I missed them and not them themselves??? Sad to realise just how much my self-esteem must have plummeted that I didn't think I could! Sad to realise how often on these boards I see that lack of self-esteem leads to the bottle leads to lack of self-esteem ...etc etc. To do with this capitalist society??? Something's gone wrong anyway. (Sorry, me, me, me!!! but I realised with amazement the other night that I really do not believe that I have any 'right' to live in a house I like with a kitchen that works, have a holiday (not been away for 4 years) etc etc etc. No violins please but what's going on?!? Why'd I let all that cr*p in?!?! Am I alone?!)

Just for a larf to lighten this (!).... Howd you fancy 'my' (landlady's) kitchen...? Right, are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin....!
The kitchen floor collapsed 6 months after I moved in here 4 years ago....a previous owner (Mr's Bodgit and Scarper) had had a dish-washer with a slow leak but had 'pebble-dashed' (coated) the outside of the house and so covered the air bricks. The water couldn't evaporate and because he had replaced some of the floor timbers with plain wood (not tannelised timber which is water resistant) it had been slowly rotting for about 10 years! First we were 'falling down a hole' in front of the washing machine (right next to the cooker). Then the cooker began to slew sideways and everythng slid to one side of the pan. Then I saw the whole thing must be sinking into the floor as the work surfaces on either side of it were getting burned! So, out it all came and we pulled up the 'lino'..... There was a heaving mass of rotten, rotting, putrid wood. Well, EX wood! The only thing stopping up the cooker from falling 18 inches to the earth below was the lead gas pipe. If that had fractured before I investigated we'd have gone up in an explosion that could have taken out the whole street!

So the whole kitchen had to come out, I had no floor, no units, a camping gaz cooker and only a stand pipe in the corner for 7 weeks!!! (Because no-one would coem and deal with the old lead pipe - 3 feet of half inch lead pipe was going to give them all cancer??!? "More than my jobsworff"...) I got one month's free rent (!) but had to oversee the proceedings with the (unbelievably useless) builder who the letting agent used. The landlady and the agent came round once each and despite having the luxury of choosing the new floor and cooker etc, the landlady's budget was pitiful. Rather too much 'responsibility' as the things I could 'afford' are now falling appart in it's my fault; I've 'damaged' them.... (I did tell her at the time you only get what you pay for but...!)

Anyways, the thing is that, despite it being an insurance job she put most of it in her bank account I fear and the builder ordered the cheapest he could find. My sink - grrrrrrrrrr! -is tiny. Cheap and tacky. It is so small that the washing-up bowl stands proud of the top of the sink so when I wash up water pours all down my front. (Smaller bowl = I can't even get a dinner plate in it!) It isn't big enough to wash things like grill pans in with out soaking the floor. I have to have a mat thingy in the bottom of the sink or the bowl and sink form a suction that acts like a plug and the water wont go down. That raises the bowl even more! The sink wont empty anyway - takes about 3 minutes becasue the guy didn't get the levels/drain fall right. And where it's been fitted into the wall and work surface (different colour to the rest of the kitchen cos it was cheap!!Same with one of the unit doors...!) he 'finished' it by using Pollyfilla which he 'smoothed' off with his fingers!!!!!!! Now it's all brown in the ridges and can't be cleaned/ painted or anything.... When he put the kick boards under the units back he just put screws into the gaps and not the uprights so they just fell underneath.... you can just imagine how well he patched up the floor!!! Not! I've had to do it all myself but I can't actally change anything coz they like it and it's not mine.... Aaagh! Hence my thoughts at the sink the other night. Why do I go on putting up with this sort of thing? It's been 7 rented houses in 14 years of living like this...............?!? Time for a change! I mean, I'm not asking for a diamond encrusted house. Just a home!

Right, wakey, wakey!! Yawn eh?!?! But you gotta laugh...!

I must go and do something with this blessed day.... I do hope everyone's doing ok. I must concentrate and type the sort of post I think in my mind so much of the time - one that includes everyone's goings on... It's not much good to you if you don't know that I think about each and every one of you through the day. I do but I 'should' post that instead of rambling on about kitchen sinks!! (No wonder there's a saying about 'Everything bar the kitchen sink...'!! Except I manage to even get that in!!)

Have a good Wednesday!

BOOZE BUSTERS NEW THREAD 9/10

Morning (here) Folks,

A beautiful sunny but cool day here!

LindZee - I actually didn't (don't) drink during the process of making the guitars as it involved using power tools - and one rule I ALWAYS stick to when I am making a guitar is:

"I'm building a guitar here, so I need to have all my fingers at the end of this process so I can play the thing!"

Some of the tools involved could be seriously dangerous - so I would NEVER operate them with alcohol in my system.

After I had finished in the workshop tho'- that was a WHOLE different story!!!

Yes - it IS a precision job - but if you approach and plan it carefully and think everything through BEFORE you actually cut any wood - it is not that difficult to do!

Albert King was one of Hendrix's influences BTW He was one of the early electric blues players - He played a Gibson "Flying V" too!

Gary Moore is an Irish born, blues guitarist. He used to be in Thin Lizzy as well as having a successful solo career. (Parisienne Walkways - probably one of his best known tracks - but certainly NOT his best playing!)
Eagle Rock Entertainment

Actually I just found a picture with BOTH of them

Hannah - Snivelling??
Satori don't do snivelling! Satori quietly waits and waits and waits.......... and then............. ...... he gets EVEN!

July - the mountains of Tennesee sound like my kind of place!

Rob - glad to hear you are getting better - yep - probably best to keep out of Hubby's way for a while - you know what us men are like - the slightest teensy weensy minute itsy bitsy little 250 mile per hour horrendous fireball of a road accident while rushing to a 30 day AF party - and we snivel apparently!.

That dessert looks good - must go and eat something!

Hi to everyone else - you are not forgotten - I just don't want to risk a lost War and Peace episode this morning!

Love

Hello All! Wednessday (Sanity day) off, so able to actually say good morning to everyone. Will be back later, tho, to check in on the happenings of the day. Son is coming over to help me life down boxes full of his stored stuff on high shelves in the garage, have to run dog to groomers, go to gym, fuel up and wash car, clean house, wash, iron, shop - you, know, usual day of rest :H .

Hubby is away for a few days again. So just me and the computer, have the luxury of not having to share it. That's when I catch up on the happenings around here. Looks like I missed some excitement yesterday. Too bad that stuff has to happen, glad RJ takes care of that kind of thing pdq.

Satori - Satori - who you trying to scare? I am one tough broad, takes a lot to scare me. Looking forward to your "attempt" tho! :H :H

FMF - Your landlady sounds like a "Slum Lord" to me. There is a saying, tho "What goes around comes around". Hope her "come around" comes sooner rather than later. :l to yiou, my friend.

Well, must go tackle somethng on my "list". There is always the danger that I will sit here all morning, and get nothing done, so will tear myself away, and check on y'all later. Have a good one!

Wow Satori and Hannah we've got a little action happening!! Now I ask you, what kind of an example are you two setting for our newbies? These poor young souls, struggling to get to 30 days and here you two are after 60 days, engaging in unrestrained frivolity. Shocking, just shocking!!
Now I will be the first to admit that that neither Chief nor I have achieved that lofty goal of 60 days, but as you can see we are much better role models

And please, please don't get me started on FMF!! Personal growth, self awarness and OMG===FUN!!

In summation, AFers be warned, long term abstinance can lead to serious consequence, such as Personal growth, Joy, Fun, and a number of other atrocities

There is of course, no need to thank me for this warning a I have only the best interest of our AFers at heart.
