Booze Busters 30 Day AF Challenge, Wednessday, March 19th

Hi all. I completed my 6th full day of AF about 2.5 hours ago!! So I'm onto day 7 and by this time tomorrow will have a week under my belt.

Hannah, I hope the job interview went well - let us know. I agree about keeping busy. Even though I didn't really totally plan it this way, I picked a good time for me to quit with all this figure skating going on during the first 10 days. Keeps my mind busy, and the competition has been really, really excited so far. Lots of unexpected suprises! Since you are from Canada, I will just say that a "dark horse" Canadian Pair team, Dube and Davison took the bronze medal. They are a wonderful pair, but they were not considered to be in medal contention going into the World Championships. So I'm sure there are some happy Canadians today!

Beaches, congratulations on Day 4!!! Glad GABA is taking the edge off for you to. LOL on it "feeling like Day 400." I hear ya. WE CAN DO THIS!! Just imagine...if we stick to our guns there will come a time when we go for days or even weeks without thinkin' of no stinkin' drinkin'. It will take work and time to get there, but I know we can. (mean time GABA is our friend)

Well, I'm signing off to go make some dinner. Have a great rest of the day everyone!

Well, folks, I am once again employeed. I am going to be a "sub" secretary for the school board - anytime a secretary is sick, or away for any reason - I'm your woman! Other than having to be prepared to get a phone call at 7:00 am and get yourself to the job by 8:00, it's well nigh the perfect arrangement - summers off, Christmas off, Spring break, etc. - plus you work in any one of 13 schools, so I'll get to meet tons of people. Also, if there is a permanent position that comes up, the sub list gets first crack at it......Course, I'm making about 1/2 of what I used to, but what the H*ll......I think this will be WAY more fun.

Yeah! Was a good day all around, went and worked out, visited my folks, cleaned the house (found a new hardwood floor cleaner that makes it shine like glass, and a nice sort of cherry smell to it - so the place even SMELLS awesome!) ....sat on the balcony with my dawg on my lap and drank a cuppa tea...(even if I had to wear a jacket - it's only 4 degrees!). An all around good day.

Hope everybody else had a super, rip snortin' booze bustin' beast bashing day too!

Rackin' up another AF day! Night all......

WHEE!!! Hannah, that sounds like the perfect job! Lots of flexibility and people meeting ops. Congratulations!!!! What is the name of the hardwood floor cleaner you tried and liked? I have one room with real hardwood. Is this cleaner also good for laminate floors? I've got LOTS and loads of that! Congrats on racking up another AF day!! Bust It Baby!

barebones - WOO HOO on Day 19! Way to rack 'em up!! Way to nag 'em!! You are on the back half of your way to your first 30 and that's awesome.

I'm feeling better than I ever expected on Day 7. I'm really glad I did this right before Figure Skating Worlds - it is SO nice to have my mind and tons of my time (even if it's not exercise!) totally preoccupied. Today is the Original Dances which will be great for some outrageous costume voids and wedgies in addition to great competition. Then Ladiezzzz free skate at that, which will be boring by comparison, at least in the costume department. Things will be underway from Sweden in about 30 minutes, so I gotta run.

I hope everyone has a great booze bustin' day!! I think we'll keep one thread going for a full week, or about 100 posts whichever comes first. How does that sound to Booze Busters the world over??

Have a great AF day everyone. Stay determined - you know that's with the Determinator would say!!!

            count me in

Good morning all. Day three here and doing alright. Yesterday made it through a morning of meetings, kids naughtiness and had a class last night. Passed my BIG test and practical, came home and celebrated with chocolate milk. I actually slept 8 hours, haven't done that in a while, might even take a jog today. Lordy, I feel GREAT! This brings me to a question. It has been years since I missed more than 1 day of boozing. No physical withdraws.... should I still expect this to happen?

            On my way
Was an alcoholic yesterday, an alcoholic today and will still be an alcoholic tomorrow..... but I'm in charge now!

                Good Morning Everyone,

Hannah, your job sounds perfect. Congrats. Love your upbeat attitude.

                I just finished Day 45.

Spring is here - my kids are off for a week or so and we will have some great times.

                Enjoy your AF day everyone!

Hi all! WOW the Original Dance portion of the competition was WILD!!! I'm so glad I'm completely sober. Amazing how we can "think" we enjoy a hobby or whatever when we have a buzz, but at least for me, I'm enjoying it a LOT more without the buzz.

Congratulations On My Way on Day 3. WHEE!!! And I know what you mean about not knowing HOW you should feel even after a couple days AF. Fellow daily drinker here.

I had only mild withdrawl symptoms last year when I started the 60 days stretch. And I hadn't really been taking any vitamins or anything - so I'm sure my body was very deprived of good things. I had what I call "nopa dopa" for the first couple weeks where I would mix up words sometimes - little things like that. I had major troubles sleeping. But really no shakes or anything. (I consider I was very fortunate!) This time I have at least kept up the supplements (sans Kudzu and L-Glut - but kept taking All One and a few other things) I don't know if that made a difference or what, but other than a mild problem with sleep, no other withdrawl symptoms at all tha I'm noticing. 2 cents for whatever it's worth - I'm sure everyone's mileage varies.

Barbie, congrats on your progress. Day 83 is awesome!!! What's the Persian New Year like?

Beck, congrats on Day 45!! Half way to 90 ROCKS.

Where the heck are all the other Booze Busters today??? Hopefully out enjoying spring weather if they are in that sort of climate zone. (it's gorgeous here today in the Chicago area)

Anyone heard from Cowgal? I haven't been on here much this week, so maybe she's posted elsewhere. Come back to AF Cowgal if you haven't already. Don't be like me.

                    Hi everyone,

It's wet and cold and windy here today. Yuck. And it's supposed to snow on Sunday! (We rarely get snow in London so that would be pretty cool actually )

I spent about half an hour thinking it's perfect weather to hunker down and drink tonight, especially as I don't have to go to work tomorrow. Crazy. I'd be thinking the same thing if it was sunny and warm.

So I'm NOT going to do that. I'm going to wallow in a hot bath and read my new book (Elinor Lipman, if anyone's a fan) - then enjoy my day off tomorrow without a hangover!

                          Yo Boozebusters!!!

                          How?s everyone today?

Beaches - Congrats on hanging in there with day 4. Some days are harder than others, hopefully today will be easier. Way to rock!

Lukalee - Day 8! Fabulous! What do you mean by ?working? on your floor? Putting down a new one? Or just routine cleaning?

BTW DG, the name of the floor cleaner is ?Method?, which is a Safeway?s own cleaner. It?s fabulous! And looking at the bottle, I see it says ?almond floor cleaner? in small print - hence the nice smell, I guess! I?m sure you are eyes glued to the TV right now - enjoy all those wedgies, and hey - even the skating! Have to admit I haven?t watched a bit of it - sometimes I do, and sometimes I don?t. But enjoy!

Marshy - I would be happy to send you some snow, if you really want it! We still have heaps of it laying about - although melting fast now. Hope you have a good day reading your book and enjoying your soak. Good on you for your determination!

Barebones! 19 days! On to 20!!!!! Whooeeeeeee!

And Bootcamp - wow - you are our resident ?senior?! (But in a good way!) Good for you, you are setting us a great example.

On my way - so glad you feel so good! We are all different, myself I never had what you would call withdrawals, just trouble sleeping. However, I am just your basic insomniac, don?t know that it has much to do with drinking, or not drinking?.but probably contributed to my problem in the first place?.

Beck - Howdy. 45 days, not too shabby! Hope to be there once again myself soon??well, eventually?..only about 8? 9? Days so far - yikes - I am losing track already - will have to go do some counting!

What?s everybody got planned for Easter? Tonight my son and his gf are coming, and we will have a gathering of the clan for supper tomorrow night (my first family supper in new place), and then on Sunday we are all going to Mom and Dad?s. And then, no doubt, to the gym in desperation on Monday, trying to burn off all those extra calories!!!!!

I actually feel somewhat crappy today, hoping I am not getting a cold. And did get a phone call already from the school board, already booked for one day next week, and a day in April - to take training - on a switchboard - I guess I?ll be doing that for about a week while the ?regular? is chaperoning a school trip to Europe! Sheessshhhhh - I never got to go ANYWHERE when I was in grade 12!

Anyhow, must run and get an enormous amount of groceries to feed everybody - may not be back on the boards until maybe Saturday, so have a good day today, and again tomorrow, ok? And if :alf: shows up at your celebration, give him the !

Hannah, I decided I was going to acid stain the concrete in a small family area. I did a large area last summer, so I figured this would not be a problem. After taking up carpet and two layers of horrible tile, I realized it was going to be a problem. Underneath was a tar mastic from the 50's. I tried acid and diesel fuel...neither touched it. After enhaling all the lovely fumes, I found a soy based product that was supposed to take it off like cake. Not exactly. What it did was take off the top layer and it was so greasy in here I could have charged a lot of money for guys to come and see a naked oil wrestling competition......I almost fell on my butt so many times.

So I have resorted to taking a small, handheld scorer and I have been grinding the concrete. I honestly do not know how I am not drinking. I am in so much pain right now. And of course I work hard, not smart, and my house is now covered in 1/2" layer of dust.

I have sworn that I am done grinding. I will find a concrete etch to try to even things out (or just buy a huge area rug) and now I am cleaning. uggghhh

This thread is what got my attention and from the support I found last summer it has helped me and many others who choose to be and remain AF.

Hi all! What a GREAT day of figure skating with more nail biter competition, and that's just the wedgies!! LOL the figure skating discussion board that I "watch along with" nominated me and another guy to just the official 2008 World Championship Wedgie competition. People are submitting pictures and videos that they 1) take or 2) find on the net. I told them all that in the spirit of figure skating judging, I am accepting bribes of cash or expensive yet tasteful gifts. What a fun week I'm having! Woulda thunk it....

This afternoon at 3PM I reflected on a full sober week. I feel really good - much better than my first two tries. I'm determined this one is it. On to Day 8 / week 2!

Marshy, a hot bath and good book sound heavenly!! Much better than a hangover. Snow in London....IN MARCH!! Wow. We are due for some late snow here too. It was GORGEOUS today - sweatshirt weather, sunny, beatiful spring day. But from 1AM Friday morning (soon) to 1AM Saturday morning, there is a Winter Storm Warning where 1 - 2 inches of wet, heavy snow is supposed to fall per hour for part of that time. We're on the southern edge of that warning zone, so I'm hoping we get mostly rain. That type of storm is horrid because heavy snow or sleet in large quantities can cause a lot of tree damage, roof damage, etc. Anyway, I hope spring shows up soon in London AND in Northern IL USA!

Lukallee33 Congrats on Day 8! Your floor project sounds horrid. Now I remember why I don't like house projects. :H An area rug sounds like the perfect solution - at least that's what I'd do! I finally noticed all the butt cracks lined up in your avatar! Love it!

Beaches - Congratulations on getting to Day 5!!!!!! That is an awesome accomplishment. Just keep sucking it up day by day and trust that in time it will get easier. We are WORTH IT!! Let's go get the good lives we deserve free of guilt etc. etc. related to the booze. Going to bed early is a great strategy!! Why not?

Hannah that is cool that you're already booked for two jobs!! Congrats on your days too. 8? 9? You gotta pick one so you know when to tell us your 30 day party is happening. Have lots of fun with your family this weekend! Thanks for the floor product info. We don't have Safeway right around where I live, but I'm sure I can find something similar to try.

JULY!!!! You are da bomb. Thank you SO much for dropping by to encourage all of us by sharing your Booze Bustin' success story. If you can, so can we. If you don't mind sharing, could you maybe tell us what you think some of your biggest challenges were, and how you overcame them? Were there certain milestones that were difficult to push through? What strategies did you employ to deal with your "witching hour?" Anything that comes to you mind that might be helpful for one of us or all of us would be very welcome.

Onward and foward!! Tomorrow the Men's event starts with Short Programs at 4AM my time. I will be watching on a Turkish TV feed for about 1/3 of it, then switching to a Russian Sports Channel feed for the rest (better picture). Mean time, I will have Eurosport Audio on from England (Marsky, do you ever watch? Chris and Nicky are the commentators and that are funny and good!). It's pretty amazing to see the WHOLE event. US television shows only a small fraction of the entries, and rarely anything live.

So that's where I'll be!! In the Booze Free Zone! Nighty Night everyone. Thanks for your support and encouragement!
