      Two months going sober...

      Doubter

How quickly a month passes, if only we keep away from doing the soul-degrading drills..

Seems like yesterday when I thought that I need to put in another 30 days being alcohol-free, and lo here I am completing two months being away from the monster.

This month again has been a journey of self-discovery where the call of the siren has probably diminished in its strength and day-by-day, the thought of alcohol is receding farther in mind.

One thing I have probably consciously done this month, is to decide that I shall not fixate on a daily basis on the thought that I'm quitting alcohol. Last year while giving up smoking, for the first few months, I was constantly fixating on the fact that I'm quitting nicotine and it was almost like watching grass grow which made the initial phase of the quit really tough. Lesson learnt.

As my alcohol consumption had a fixed place and time, in the evenings at our club, the whole month I've again avoided this time-place trigger. My evenings have mostly been spent at home playing with my son, catching up on the long neglected habit of reading, watching cricket on the telly and spending time online.

Although a very infrequent poster here, I dip into MWO's fount of wisdom on a daily basis taking note of and reflecting on the awesome insights provided by some great souls here.

Also I would like to specially thank Angel for being such a wonderful inspiration and guide.

I think that I do not have the psychological makeup to stay within moderate limits, hence I again resolve to pursue sobriety for the month of May too.

      Thanks all for listening....

      Peace to all...

        Doubter,

Thank you for posting on your progress.

I am sure your family is amazed at how much time you are suddenly spending with them, doing simple things like watching the telly, and just being "there" instead of an absent drinker who comes home and isn't available for their lives.

Like you, I am simply not capable of moderating. I can't moderate anything!! Not just alcohol.

Alcohol is something that if we can't moderate, we must abstain but I have learned that abstention is a liberating state, not a denial.

My husband and I love the fact that when I am home on the weekends, I crawl into bed at night with him and we can actually talk for a few minutes, hold hands and be like kids again. It is so much better than crawling into bed drunk, unable to connect and passing out.

We also like waking up together in the morning, walking out back together and watching the day begin to unfold and just talking about the inane things like weather, politics, family, the quiet early morning union of two people who have been together a long time and still enjoy each other and our lives together.

Geez, he really does like me and I really do like him. Alcohol robbed many, many nights and mornings from us. It is amazing that he stuck with me through all that.

        Love,
        Cindi

          Hi Doubter,
Congratulations on your 2nd sober month.

I'm at day 23af today and I know that I'm gonna make it to 30. I cannot moderate at all, my brain just can't grasp that concept.
I've decided to go a month at a time, ODAT isn't a big enough commitment for me and I end up tricking myself into drinking.

You post has given me inspiration and I would like to wish you a happy sober May.

          take care

          Snake....... come crawling,
          There's fire in your eyes,
          Bite me, excite me,
          I'll learn to realize.

          The poison transmuted,
          Brings eternal flame.
          Open me to heaven,
          To heal me again.

Job well done Doubter. It's quite an accomplishment. I can't moderate either. I find that knowing that fact makes it easier as I am not wondering when I can start drinking again. Good luck in May. I hope we both put in 31 AF days.

            Cheers.:goodjob:

Congrats on your two months sober! You have done an amazing job and should feel very proud of yourself. I am sure your family is and I am sure they love spending time with you as you with them. Enjoy this journey you are on.

                  Yes Cindi,

This is a point that you so rightly brought up. I am doing all those boring things that a middle-aged man is supposed to do, but this has definitely had a dramatic impact on my relationships at home. Wifey is happy, son feels great that I have enough time to play tennis ball cricket with him ( although he keeps almost breaking my rib cage with his wayward bowling, what does he think of himself...India's answer to Brett Lee??)

Yes, al is an insidious beast taking away precious moments from our life.

                    Thanks want,
I'm sure you will go on to be sober the whole month, and if you resolve, for a lot more time. The first couple of weeks are the toughest and once we are over this initial hump, things gradually ease out.

Thanks Mohun, Sure we shall stay away from alcohol this whole month.

                    Thanks Bambi

You know Doubter, I have been sitting here for over an hour trying to put my thoughts into words of how much your friendship has come to mean to me & how proud I am of you...and when I try to find the words... I find that anything I try to say only trivializes my sentiments...
I know that you understand that my loss of words mean more than anything I could ever say... and please know that my congratulations to you, is truly heartfelt.
