I am a drunken cook too. A little for the food, a little for me. Maybe that is why I have not been cooking lately.

I am working on day 2 of my AFreeness!!! Drinking enough coffee to float a boat. My stomach feels awful and my hands are twitchy. ugh.

oh well. I am AF and that is all that matters right now.

Yep, I would always have the bottle open while I prepared dinner - especially Saturday/Sunday evenings. These days I'm quick to open the cranberry juice or lately the tonic water. Its the same with ironing...I would always have a glass while I ironed!! Oh, and a bath.....I never took a bath without a glass on the side....except in the mornings! And gardening.....never gardened without coming into a beer...yep I was a wine girl but there was something about gardening that made me die for a beer (or 5 or 6 or 7!) when I got in. 18 months or so ago, my mum-in-law came over and was helping me garden.....she found a bag with a load of gardening rubbish in and amongst it all were 7 empty beer cans!! That was a summer day I believe..when I didn't actually make it inside and started drinking while gardening! Can't remember how I got myself out of that one!

Lovely to hear from everyone today.....everyone sounds upbeat. Cindi, its good to have a "plan" in place for when you'r away, ie swimming. Thankful, 98 days!!! Would love to hear your "story"!!

          Happy April 2!!!

I have found by cooking in the morning I can reduce the stress of the whole process. Of course I generally make stews or things that will slow cook til laterr on. Basically any activity between 5 and 7pm falls into the "danger zone"so I'm trying to plan so that my evenings are organzied.

The days are still quite cold here in the northeast so I'm dreaming of warmer, sunnier weather. I am thrilled, though, that the sun rises shortly after i get up in the morning (at 6). I try to watch all the varieties of birds outside my window in the early light. Watching them is so much better when you don't have a wine headache.

The spirits seem to be quite high here today and that's a good thing.
Enjoy the evening all and stay strong!

            Good morning ABadoonies!

Boyz...character builders LOL I hear ya man.

cooking and vino. oh boy...where to begin. short version: this is a stigma we allowed and probably encouraged to form in our brains over the years. just an illusion that we are fully in control of. I used to "HAVE TO" have wine to cook or I'd get really depressed and upset. seems so childish and stupid now but it was a real obstacle for a long time as it seems it has been for a great many of us.
nowdays I concentrate on the food in every respect and it totally absorbs my creativity and I don't miss the vino at all! I really dont. amazing!

I also gotta zoom outta here....work work.. back home to my loverly Dx Thursday...can't wait!

            be well friends

Oh yes, wine and cooking - I know it well. For me I think it was more a time of day issue. My husband was still at work and my 4 girls are needing...after school snacks...homework help...forms filled out for school...soccer uniforms washed...to know where something is...to tell me about their days...MOM. It is still like that of course but now I handle it with teacup firmly in hand. My 7 year old knows how to make me a cuppa!!!

Janice, I have an entire list of things I thought I needed to drink to do - refinishing furniture required JD and coke. housework = gin and tonic, yardwork = beer, talking on phone = wine. You get the idea...I have a lot of unlearning to do

Thankful, 100 days around the corner - well done.

Croft, glad to see you here. hang in there.

                Hello All,

Made it thru April day Two and day 10 total AF! Been on the go 247 all day. I had a really good day at work and usually would have had cocktails to celebrate but instead i made a huge feast of a dinner, supplements and lots of water!

Great to wake up for the ninth day in a row without a hangover!

                  evening triggers

Great work on resisting the evening triggers,

Cooking w/ wine was my wife's trigger. Decompressing w/ a beer (or 6) was my nightly ritual. I knew it was time to adjust when I saw that number hit double digits more than occasionaly. Replacing those triggers is a puzzle.

I think mini fixes work well. Like vinophile suggests, early prep or shorter prep helps. Also, change the routine. It is amazing at what we think we have to do and in what order. I'll often cook breakfast for dinner or, like tonight, get a meal that is partially prepared. Then I'll go outside and play w/ the kiddos before I clean up. I never would do that before b/c I had to clean (drink 2 more beers) up.

Tonight it was fun to watch my 8 year old come over and try my herbal tea after dinner as we played basketball. The patterns can be adjusted. A year ago I would have felt shame if he tried that with a beer. Now I laugh at him and say try it you might like it. He told our neighbor later this evening that he liked cherry w/ cinamon tea, you can't make this stuff up.

                  Take care abs friends.
