Lila: You are so right about using AL to cope. I did that for more years than I want to admit. Any little upset would send me running to the bottle. Now, I'm having to learn to deal w/conflict, upset, feelings, etc. on my own (at the ripe old age of 63). It is not easy but so worth it. Jinja, I too am on the shy side, but I've learned to push through the nerves. For years, I drank to get through social situations. I don't want to do that any more. If people see that I'm nervous, so be it! It's not the end of the world. I think as I cope w/social situations & conflicts etc. sober, it'll get easier. Take care of your sobriety, & again to all the moms out there: "Happy Mother's Day!" I'll check back later. Mary

Sunday 11th May
Good morning to all - got through another night = was easy as I had a race in the am and we didn't go out. Just like a lot of these posts today, I fear getting into a social setting with friends - too tempting for me at this point.
Eastender congrats on getting through last night.
Cindi - good luck with the wedding - there should be so much positive energy there!
Lila - I tried the psyllium yesterday and will do it for a few
Jinja - just get back on the wagon and keep checking here - it helped me to come here and the chat room before I went out on Thursday.
Happy Mothers Day to all those Mothers out there.

Dealing with things we don't want to or scared to, things we have always given to AL to handle is not an easy task. Some of us have spent many years in that "numbing mode" and now that the security blanket is gone the work begins. It takes time, and the longer AL is not part of your life, you will see the confidence start creeping back in. Be kind to yourself, give yourself time.....I did not notice any great mental change when first fiving up the booze. I was content in just basking in the physical changes, just happy to feel good and wake up every morning without a hangover. The mental "stuff" started creeping back slowly.....as my confidence grew I started to face the day with a new attitude. You will find yourself getting mentally stronger as each AF day passes.....It will happen...Hang in there!!sobriety date 11-04-07

Happy Mother's Day. Congratulation on the pending wedding Cindi. :l
Sorry for those who had slips. Keep trying. I know how difficult situations can be triggers, but as others have said, have a plan of action.
Day 31 and counting for me.

Sunday 11th May
Good morning
Hello and thank you to those that gave me wishes of happiness on my bday and to those that gave me support in dealing with my bday party last night. :thanks:
I made it through the night and am on day 15!!!!
Well, I discovered, my friends DID care that I was NOT drinking. One of my friends, tried real hard... 3X... to get me to just have one with them....or drink from the communal beer. I actually found sustenance in my ideals of not drinking and felt actually more empowered every time I had to say no to her. In my head, AL was playin' his own games and that was the harder battle, but through dealing with my friend, it actually gave my will more strength. I feel great today and am so proud that I beat down AL with my strength.
Happy Momma day to all, hope you are all doing what YOU want today. :h
I am very proud of those that have picked themselves up from off the floor. ODAT!! I look forward to you continuing your journey with us through May!!!

Happy Mother's Day!!!
Flyinhigh, you have just shown yourself that you are stronger than perhaps you knew, well done!
Lausibel, anxiety and drinking is a very common theme amongst us. I was shy to the point of sociopathic for a lot of my life. After getting some AF time behind me I was amazed to see how lively I've become. Now I'm like a happy little rash that you just can't get rid of. hahahahahaha.
