    abbercise May 26 - June 1

Beck - get the wii!!! I have lots of friends who feel similarly about not wanting their kids to turn into computer potatoes (I feel the same but I dont have kids!) but the wii is great. We had dinner at some friends place a wee while ago and all the adults had a ggreat time with it. A few days after that we went with my partner's 10-year old, who is a very academic kid, but not very confident physically ..... he had a ball, and afterwards decided that he might like to go back to his martial arts class which he had dropped out of about 6 months ago.

Anyway I had my weigh and measure at the gym this morning - hadn't lost any weight but had lost 2.5 cms off waist and upper leg and 4cms of my chest! Yay!

Interestingly those of us in the group that had been religious about the exercise had lost size, while those who had been more careful about the eating/drinking (not me!) had lost weight.

Goal for June is to keep up the activity and pay more attention to the food! (and its day 5 AF!)

WHEE!! Finally made it to Curves at 1:45 this afternoon. Boy did it feel good except that dang computer really does kick my ass. Curves ain't for weenies any more! Gone are the days of mainly socializing my way around the circuit LOL. The estimated calorie burn today was 361. It was a strength day, and it's amazing how much progress has been made already since last week.

OMW - you guys are making me want to borrow some kids so I can justify getting a Wii too!!! :H Heck, maybe I'll ask Santa later this year anyway. Hey - I think you SHOULD give that lady a high 5! Maybe she'll think you are crazy, but maybe she would be thrilled that someone noticed how hard she's been working.

Beck, good for you doing for "you" and going on your run and doing strength training. Although I will admit that I would not consider a run (with myself doing the running that is) as doing something for "me" unless somebody with a gun was chasing me.

Mame, congrats on Day 5 AND your inches lost at the gym!! Inches are way more important than pounds. At least that's what my blue jeans seem to think.

Woo Hoo to all the Abbercisers yet to report in!

I read something earlier this month. Looked back and found it. It's one of those things that's worth a read from time to time... or better yet put a copy on the wine rack. A study on the effects of booze on the female heart. Some guy stuff in there too.

Too much alcohol damages heart and arteries - Yahoo! News

It's another reason to abbercise. Off to run and the dreaded sit ups. Damn i hate sit ups!!

Sorry folks have been truly rubbish at excercising but a quick peak shows me that some of you have been doing enough for everyone.

The pedometer hasn't even been doing too well since I keep forgetting to put it on in the morning. I normally remember when I am at the railway station.

DG forgive my ignorance but what is Curves? I gather it is a gym but what makes it different?

Having now made 30 days AF I have a twofold plan for June. 1) get out and start socialising again and 2) lose the 12 pounds I put on comfort eating in May. I shall also be staying AF.

The cunning plan is to take the plug off the TV so that I can't watch telly or dvds etc. OK I can still read books but it is much more difficult to stuff your face with a book in your hand. I am also figuring that it will make me more likely to stop off at the gym on my way home or to meet up with some of the girls. Since curling up on the sofa will be less appealing.

OK it might not be the best plan in the world but at least it's a plan!

Deter, the rowing machine sounds like hell, and the couple massage sounds like heaven. It sounds like you and Dx are having such a good time! WE WANT PICTURES! (sorry to be so repetitive!)

OMW, running AND sit ups. You have my utmost respect. That combo would surely give me a rash.

Loppy, I think your plan sounds great! And that is an excellent point about it being harder to do mindless comfort eating while reading a book v. TV. Never really thought of it that way, but it is so logical!! Thanks for sharing that tip. Curves is a circuit type workout program designed specifically for women. The workout is a combo of aerobic and resistance (like weights) training. Here is a link wih more info. They are world wide - who knows, there might be one near you! I love it because Curves tends to attract a middle age and older type crowd (sorry - I don't like being next to the young hotties in the unisex gyms!). The workout is very efficient - 30 minutes for the circuit, and another 5 - 10 for stretching and you're done. They also tend to keep a real upbeat atmosphere an have motivational games and prizes and contests all the time. It just keeps it fun.

Anyway, I can't believe I forgot to come here earlier and post! I worked out this morning right after my 7AM business meeting and the 'puter said I burned 387 calories today. WOO HOO!! I plan to go again tomorrow morning, and then Sunday is my planned day off while they are closed. I will NEED a recovery day by then!

Thanks for the link DG It all looks very friendly and a bit older. I too am well past my bloom so would be nice but...Loads of them in the UK but unfortunately the only one close enough to use is the one in Oxford Street, which is the main shopping street in London and therefore always absolutely packed with tourists and a fiht to get to. Somewhere sane Londoner avoid travelling to whenever they can.

My gym is fine, it has all the essentials, Spa, beauty rooms, pool, steamrooms, hydrobeds etc.... Ok it also has all the other bits I should be using but little steps. Let's just try getting me through that front door on a regular basis.

                  Sore bits

No gym today - did a workout in my garden instead which the plants are very grateful for. My back isn't though - lots of reaching and awkward stretching. Once I finished and came in for a cup of tea it decided that it liked sitting down so much that I couldn't get up again! uchy: Have just had a radox bath and feeling almost human again.

So I guess the plan to keep so busy on Sat that I didn't think of wine worked a treat! I just may never walk again .........:H

Had a decent week working out - went to the hotel gym on TUesday and Thursday. Did a jog for about 45 minutes and walked another 45 minutes outside today.

Have a great Saturday everyone. Back to the States tomorrow - and heading to the boxing gym.

Hi Abbercisers! Popping in quick to report that I did my workout at Curves today. Seeing as how I am usually allergic to anything resembling exercise, I'm right proud that I went 5X this week - every day they were open. And my old bod is READY for a day of rest tomorrow!

Off to take photos of tracking for the first time in about 9 months. (usually I'm nursing a hangover / sneaking in a couple voddy drinks while the group tracks somewhere else so I'm "good and ready" by the time they get here to do obedience and protection work)

                      YEAH!!

                        Hello all!

Haven't checked in here much this week, but have been golfing my little hiney off - and my shoulders are aching right now, but in a good way.

Other than that, just the twice daily walking the dog - my hubby paced out our usual route this morning, and reports that it is approximately 2 km, on the conservative side. So in a typical day, rain or shine or gawd knows what, I walk 4 km walking the dog. Gee, not bad for an 11 1/2 year old dog, don't you think? Not to mention, the ancient human walking her! :H

Unfortunately, haven't been to Curves or my own longer distance walking all week, but once hubby is back to work next week I'll get back into my usual routine.
The furture lies before you like newly fallen snow - be careful how you tread it, for every step will show.

Evielou - try kickboxing - or boxing - but it has to be on the bag (not punching in the air). Also - cutting out refined sugars as much as possible (try to say "No" to white food).

I worked out on this guy's program for 10 weeks - lost 13 lbs and went from a 36"waist to a 31.5" waist. His DVD is pretty good esp. for the beginner. UBC
Depending on where you are in the southeast - he has gyms located throughout Florida and some other states.
