Booze Busters 30 Day Challenge - Beginning May 26th

    Good whatever-time-of-day-it-is-in-your-time-zone Booze Busters!!

Despite the toss and turn nights (at least the Valerian Root gives me a few hours of straight through sleep!) I FEEL GREAT today. As a daily drinker / all day sipper type, I am so used to having some sort of hangover that being hungover felt "normal." WOW what a feeling to be refreshed and with a clear head. Any time I'm tempted, which I'm sure will be often in the coming months, I'm going to read the "What I love about my AF life thread." (and consider the true fugliness of that green suit, of course)

Liv, congratulations on your successful weekend. I think you SHOULD pat yourself on the back because you thought of drinking, and chose not too. You should not feel guilty about "wanting" to drink. Our brains want a fix. Thoughts of drinking can and will happen. It's what we DO about it that matters. And you made the right choice. So if you won't pat yourself on the back, I will.

Londoner!!!!! Happy Day 1. I look forward to catching up, and also reading your My Story update. I almost started to update mine yesterday too - but I was in the middle of other things so opted to finish one thing at a time rather than get several things going and finish nothing. (what a concept, eh??) Let us know about the play!

Mame - here's to hot baths and good sleep! Hope the good sleep part happened for you.

Well, it's Day 6 here and I'm off to Curves, then my errands, then back to the office. It will either be dead as a door nail today with people on vacation - common during this holiday Monday week, or it will be crazy with people's internet down and stuff since we had one thunder storm over the weekend. (We do computer support work. Well, Mr. Doggy does the support work. I man the office and do the mundane stuff)

Happy AF day to Booze Busters the world over!

Beautiful picture Marshy - I would love that kind of walking trail. Thanks DG for the pat on the back. I feel good today. Like another hurdle has been jumped and I have more strength because of the emotional weekend. Hey Londoner - you can do this 30 - I think this is going to be a good run for everyone .... it's almost summer and the sunshine will do everyone much good - bust through the next 30 with us!! Hello to Auntie too!

Every buster out there - this is going to be a great 30 days!!

Hannah, thanks for this thread and well done on your 26 days and hello to anyone I might have missed from page 1! Hi Marshy Is that the Regent's Canal, or am I miles out? London is oh so lush and green at the moment. Our back garden is wonderfully overgrown-we call it our wild meadow. Hi Liv it's so nice to be on board and I like the quote from 'Once'-loved that film. Doggy Girl! You are sounding strong, that's good! Funny thing, I talked about feeling refreshed in my update-in my case its coz of all the rain we've had! Aunty Mame you are probably asleep, hopefully Zzzing in NZ right now.

I had the most fantastic lunch! Sweeter than sweet ripe melon then pale organic smoked salmon and huge prawns with sweet beetroot on Irish wheaten bread followed by strawberries that actually tasted like strawberries with dark delicious juicy prunes and squares of organic santa domingo dark chocolate. Oh and a huge wineglass full of chilled sparkling Perrier water.

You just might hear me talk about food a lot over the next 30,most probably in a drooling over-the-top sort of way- hope that is okay!

now what shall I have for supper?........................................... ..........

Liv - I think you are right - I too have a good feeling about the next 30 days.

Anna - your lunch sounds like it was fabulous!! Please do talk about food. I'm back on a cooking stint. Tomorrow for dinner I am making Cuban style Sea Bass. I've never cooked Sea Bass before in my life! I found the recipe on line at All recipes – complete resource for recipes and cooking tips and it had really good reviews. I like fish and seafood a lot, but really never learned how to cook it. I'm trying to shift to more fish / chicken and less pork / beef, so I gotta figure out how to make this stuff! If it turns out good I will post the recipe in that section.

Anyway...I better stop goofing here and try to get some work done!!!!

              Happy AF,

I love seabass! I have only fried fillets in olive oil, nothing complicated. Let us know how you get on.
My "date" for the play tonight has had to cancel, so it's an early night, bath and bed for me, I think.

                  Movie suggestions!

Anna that lunch sounded so amazing .... and I was reading it while I ate my homemade chicken and lettuce sandwich so I felt really deprived!!!!!:headbanger:

looking for suggestions for my Friday night movie - I haven't seen anything in such a long time that I can guarantee that I wont have seen it!

                  Criteria:
                  • Has to be funny/entertaining. I cant do serious on a Friday nightHas to have at least some bloke appeal - I hardly ever get Max out to a movie and the last couple I managed to get him to were such a disaster that he hasn't been to one since!

DG - I just looked at that You Tube clip that you had in your signature (I'm taking a coffee break!!!) ........... I am absolutely flabbergasted. I cant believe that people can get away with saying those things in public media!!

New Thread , Fresh start. Good idea Hannah,

Sorry i've not read through the thread, but did see marsy nice route to work on her cycle. It just reminded me of a month ago when i was out on my bike got carried away listening to my mp3 player and went through a load of horse poo. Not very nice.

Have a good day to old and new booze busters.

                        Hannah,

A great new thread. I want to ride to work (or Heaven) on Marshy's path and then settle in for lunch w/ Anna.

I am serial boozebuster. I got hooked last year on DG's original idea. I hope you don't mind an earlier version of Boozebusters showing up on occassion. DG consider last year's group Boozebusters 07 edition.

Take care and good luck on your AF goals. 30, 60, 90 days or more: great goals. A great way of life.

                          Hello Everyone

It is morning here in London. It rained all night and there was thunder in places. It is also cold, so what is a girl to do, when she can't sleep after 5 am? Get up and make some tea and toast of course, turn on the central heating in defiance of soaring energy bills, and switch on to MWO.

I am happy to say I did not drink wine last night.
I really believe it works if I say no to alcohol, say it firmly and loudly, say it privately and publicly, write it down in my journal, remind myself regularly that it is not an option, keep away from triggers, steer clear of drinking friends for a while .........this all works for me. When told drink is not an option, my head listens and accepts the fact. I then get on with the other things life has to offer. I am not working this week, my husband is away, so lots of food and rest is my priority. The bad weather helps as I can stay indoors, eat, watch movies etc. My system feels very acidic with all the wine build up I guess,so I'm focusing on alkaline-forming foods to redress my toxic system. Google The Wolfe Clinic - Acid & Alkaline Food Chart, if this interests you.

I have just had a big bowl of organic yoghurt with blackberries and blueberries and strawberries, oats and seeds, topped with organic honey - yummy!

                          How is everyone today?
How are those goals shaping up?
July, I'll let you know later what is on the lunch menu for today, although I fear it is resistible stirfry for one! Think you would stand a better chance of culinary excitement if you head over to Doggy Girl's place for some of her sea bass!

                            day 3 over!

Hi Anna and everyone else - hope you all have a great day, and that the weather improves. Keep the food talk coming! I'm feeling a bit uninspired by it at the moment - I like to eat seasonally and locally and our late summer produce has finished and I'm not a great fan of winter vegies. Might take up the fish option for a change!

End of the day here and I'm bushed. Had a 5:30 meeting which I knew would involve lots of wine so I took some L-Glut about 3pm, and had a big cup of pumpkin soup. The place where the meetihg was at had a surprising large range of non-alcoholic drinks (I've never checked out the AF options before!) so I had some "lightly sparkling lemongrass juice" (at least that is what it said on the menu!) which was very pleasant.

Anyway, off for my lavender bath and yet another early night - am travelling for work tomorrow so hope you all have a great day and I'll be back Friday.

                              Morning all! (Evening, Aunty Mame!)

Sounds like everyone is strong - and hungry! Tea and toast for breakfast for me too and heading back off to my cycle path. It looks nice here but there are some very 'gritty urban' bits with a few dodgy characters hanging about. But at morning and evening 'rush hour' there are enough cyclists and dog walkers around to make it safe (I think!). Anna - this is on the Hackney stretch but it's part of that whole canal network that leads up to Regent's Park.

DG: Thanks for all the positive energy you put into the thread.

Everyone: have a fabulous day - and just say NO! I'm off on my bike (puff, puff) - hope the rain holds off for the next hour.

Booze Busters 30 Day Challenge - Beginning May 26th

Good Day Booze Busters! Warning - I feel like somewhat put rocket fuel in my kudzu today so my happiness to be AF might be a bit over-the-top-eye-ball-rolling-puke-inducing! Day 7 and I am so happy to be nearing the end of 1 week AF!

Marshy - now every time I see your checkerboard avatar I think of that beautiful bike path!! Be careful around the dodgy parts.

Mame - Congrats on Day 3, and especially getting through the business dinner AF. In my former corporate life, I don't know HOW on earth I could stay AF (especially this early in the game) with the Big Drinking that always went on. It was a double edged sword, too. "Cocktail hour" then wine flowing at dinner, then after dinner parties....and yet the Big Bosses were always on the look out to accuse people of drinking to much. (especially people who they didn't like) SO glad to be out of there. But I digress!!

Mame thank you for watching that video clip. I'm not trying to get into current US politics at all. My point in spreading the word is ONLY about how the news media in the US can and does treat women - in a way they would NEVER treat men. Can you imagine if the female news anchors talked about negative male stereotypes that way?? Geez - you'd think it was the dark ages. Anyway...

Teardrop I actually laughed out loud for real at the mental image of you jamming along on your bike, rockin' it out to your favorite music, and then.....OOPS!!

Anna, rest and feeding your body, and movies sounds GREAT in rainy weather! I'm intrigued about the Acid / Alkaline thing and will google that!

July - LOL on annual Booze Buster editions. Maybe we should just transcend time and place, and call ourselves the Intergallactic Time Warped Booze Busters! I'm glad you keep checking in because you are truly and inspiration to all of us who are somewhere behind you on the path. Can't WAIT to celebrate your 1 year AF this summer!

                                *warning* [menopause alert]
In preparation for my Friday Doc appointment, I'm scrambling to read up more on hormone issues, and also info on bioidentical HRT. (anyone with first hand experience, I'm all ears) One of the books I found at the library is by Suzanne Somers. Not exactly a medical expert...but she sure knows the menopause / hormone related symptoms! LOL she calls it the 7 Dwarfs of Menopause:
                                Itchy
                                Bitchy
                                Sweaty
                                Sleepy
                                Bloated
                                Forgetful
All Dried Up (lack of sex drive)

CHECK for all of the above in my case! I thought the 7 dwarfs concept was funny and so true, so thought I would share for those who have experienced this in life!! [/menopause alert]

Anyway...sorry this is so long. A little more MWO motivation, and I will be off to Curves then errands. Today our handyman is coming to put the railing up around our roof (the flat rock part) which is where Mr. Doggy keeps the bees, and we will have a lovely roof top patio!! It's freaky right now without the railing, but will be neat once the rail is up. I plan to get some pots and plant flowers and maybe even some roof top veggies!! Maybe some cherry tomatos. OK - gotta go before I crash MWO with such a long post.
