Thanks DG for such a great thread.....just read it all the way through and I feel re-inspired!!!!!

What do I love about being AF????

Sleeping all the way through the night; no waking up with panic attacks about how much I've drank; what I'm doing to my body etc etc etc and not being able to get back to sleep for hours.

Being able to open the front door knowing there's no glass to hide behind the kettle first!!

Queing up at the check-out at Sainsbury's feeling very "proud" of my trolley cause there's nothing to hide and not having to think "is that the cashier who served me the other day??"

Not having an "upset tummy" every morning.

Going out for dinner with friends and concentrating on them and the conversation instead of when is my glass going to be topped up???

Being able to dance like I haven't danced for years at two recent weddings - what freedom I felt!!!

Being able to face myself in the mirror each morning....well, just!! And not spending as much money on concealer!!!

      No more UTIs!!!

Goodness!!! To think I was on the verge of throwing my 98 days away!!!! Thanks everyone.....you've made me think.

FINALLY figuring out that I can just let that whole mind game notion of "just one drink" go. I love the idea of never battling myself in my own head again over fantasies of one stupid lousy drink.

While I may never really *LOVE* getting together with my inlaws (just bein' honest here).... I LOVE LOVE LOVE preparing for our get together this evening with a GOOD attitude. My "bring a dish" was made before I worked out this AM. I called and offered to bring something in addition. I'm thinking about wearing something more attractive than baggy britches and a baggy T-shirt + pony tail, without any make up at all.

I LOVE doing the above instead of what I would usually be doing which is:
Plan A: Figure out how to get out of going, period.
Plan B: Prepare to go, but with a LOUSY attitude, and tipsy to boot. (Yeah - they never noticed the attitude OR the early drinking....)

I feel really good about this and I think Mr. Doggy will be happy - even though he long ago "accepted" the bad attitude stuff.

I love not driving around to different liquor stores so that the various clerks won't think I'm the alcoholic that I actually am...do they really care? Probably not, but in my drunken paranoia, I thought they actually noticed me coming in to their store 3 or more times a week.

I love the fact that nothing is really a problem when facing life sober and happy and dealing with lifes issues with a full deck of cards.
When my husband complains about finances or work or whatever - I just say how can that even remotely be a problem cos look at how wonderful my life is now that I have given up smoking and drinking!
I really think he needs to take up smoking and drinking to excess for at least 15 years and then give them up just so he can see that all that other stuff like paying the mortgage etc is not really that important.
              Or maybe not......

lol, yes I agree. I wouldn't really wish that on my worst enemy, but I did feel that way once when my guy came home drunk once (after I had gone AF) and when I said "You're drunk", he said "Well YOU have been partying for years!". How could he ever understand how far from the truth that was? Unless your idea of "partying" is quietly self destructing, intense physical and mental suffering, loneliness and constant depression and suicidal thoughts for years. Try THAT out and you might see what it feels like...

I was just joking I certainly wouldnt wish it on anyone.... God forbid.
I do feel sorry for my other quarter as not only has he has to put up with my drinking over the years but and now he has to put up with the new me bouncing around like a bunny on speed. He must have done something really bad in a previous life to deserve this!
He said the other day that he missed the hangover days....

lol, again. Of course you were joking, and I wouldn't wish it on my bloke either! And I know what you mean about the "bouncing bunny" syndrome. In fact, I've been so full of energy, I am having to fake that I am tired out, lest I find myself taking over all the chores HE had to take over for me when I was drinking and often incapacitated... ha ha, now that he knows how to run the washing machine, what goes in the kids' lunch boxes, and where to put away the dishes, I can't let that all go to waste!

I can relate to at least 99.9% of everything in this thread!! beatle and BH, LOL on the energizer bunny thing. Me too. I bet there are days when Mr. Doggy would like to revisit the lazy days of drunken me just to get a break!! (not really, but you know what I mean!)

I LOVE being sober so I can create ultra long HoneyDo lists!! And follow up on them!! And not forget what is ON the HoneyDo list!!! :lilangel:

Yes Beatle and doggy girl I do appear to have done myself out of a job! Mine does the school lunches, the food shopping, the washing etc - and of course keeps the roof over our heads. Housework is not quite up to my newly sober standards of course - I really need to get some quality control processes in place! It is just so hard to get good help these days.

I love the fact that I have gifts for a graduation party this weekend and have set my plans for the city next weekend ... I can't tell you how many weekends I have simply blown off and sat on the couch and sipped wine all day long...

Based on Cindi's very excellent and thought provoking thread in "General" yesterday about the phases of getting AF, I'm even more convinced that it will be a benefit to me and hopefully many of you to document the things we love so we can come back to it when AL is knocking.

Of COURSE I love waking up with no hangover!! YEAH!! But it goes beyond that. I wake up these days earlier than I need to, and sometimes sort of make myself stay in bed a little longer. But I'm so excited about the new day, that I really could get up at 2 or 3AM and do something! I find myself SMILING (horrors, is THAT soppy) before I get up. I love this feeling to start the day. I never want to forget how wonderful it is compared to a hangover, and the prospect of another wasted day dreaming about Lie #2 "tomorrow."

                            Life is good.

Hey DG and all, I find myself getting up really early too, and sometimes even if I told myself the night before that I was going to sleep in a bit. I can't help it these days; I just want to get up and start the day. Who on earth would have thought that back in April when I first came to MWO??!

Tiny, I'm right with you too. I used to hate to make any plans because I would just end end breaking them most of the time anyway in favor of wine-soaked weekends. Now I have plans with family and friends almost every weekend and I actually show up! Sometimes they look surprised, but I think they're starting to adjust to the new me... : )

I went to my doctor and told him I had a serious drinking problem and that I was in desperate need of a solution. He said, 'Stop drinking.' I said, 'I don't get it..' He said, 'Go home and think about it.'

I can't say it enough that I love living openly & honestly. I'm not hiding bottles. There are no bottles wrapped up in the trash. When I'm alone in the kitchen, I'm just cooking or whatever & not on the look-out that my husb will catch me pouring a drink for myself. M
