It still amazes me as I read these posts about things I thought I was the only one to do and/or think of. The old treadmill.... Mary, once I heard that baby start up, I knew I had 15-30 minutes of sheer bliss with no interuption....A brief, but nice ahhhh moment.....

Oh, boy - I could go on forever, too..
spending time laughing with my daughter
not feeling guilty because I smell either like fresh wine or stale wine
smiling when I wake up
working out
having conversations with people and actually listening to what they say
being 20 pounds thinner!!!!!!!Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them, but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight.

Yesterday I was grateful for waking up with a migraine and knowing it was a real migraine and not a hangover. And the best part of the migraine (not too many positives about feeling this awful) is that right now alcohol sounds totally disgusting. Unfortunately, I know that won't last.

I love being able to stay level headed in the face of problems, especially when Mr. Doggy is involved. He tends to over react to things initially - but calms down later. He just needs a little time and space to process. When I am drinking, I don't honor that need of his. I make the situation worse by getting in his face and insisting we discuss it NOW. Problems are so much easier to deal with when I am clear headed, and respond in a way that is optimal for us to work through it together.

Just for today I am happy that I was able to spend the last 2 days with my daughter without worrying about the world around me and what was or is going on elsewhere in the world. I have indulged myself in making her the most important person in the world these past few days without having a head full of 'bright ideas' and non-sensical thoughts!!lol. So for today I have some peace of mind too.

What I love about today is that I no longer feel the need to check out...I used to check out when things were good, bad, uncomfortable, bored...I could go on. Yesterday my eldest daughter (15) got some great news and I was able to enjoy it with her.

I like the fact...even though I got 5 hours of sleep, interupted by the large racoon family fighting on my roof and a tooth ache, I feel good
I also think it maybe open season on racoons.
OMWWas an alcoholic yesterday, an alcoholic today and will still be an alcoholic tomorrow..... but I'm in charge now!

I like the fact that I actually have friends again! And I keep my commitments to my family - I actually show up to family functions and don't dread being there for the first time in many years. They all support my new AF life and I can finally just relax and enjoy the moment. Life doesn't seem to be passing by so fast these days. It's a great way to live and for me the only way. Thanks to MWO and to all of you that have helped me along the way. 51 days AF today.I went to my doctor and told him I had a serious drinking problem and that I was in desperate need of a solution. He said, 'Stop drinking.' I said, 'I don't get it..' He said, 'Go home and think about it.'

Don!!!
For me it was a good thing in the beginning, but as I grew more with my sobriety I needed to talk openly and honestly with people face to face. It's a good thing for me NOW as I feel less isolated and lonely having grounded myself with meeting people through AA. I have a balance back in my life where as before I relied heavily on this and other forums to distract me from a life I was afraid to embrace for fear of conforming.

Just for today I am glad to be able to get out of bed without a hangover and do some hard graft. I'm filling a skip full of crap from my mothers garage, most of which is stuff horded by my dad over the years. I have my 2 brothers coming to help tomorrow and I can finally say more than a "Hello" or "good-bye" to both of them without the need for a drink to do the talking for me. My older brother and I never really saw eye to eye on a lot of things but today I can talk openly and honestly with him about my alcoholism and my life in general.
So for today I am grateful I have some communication back in my life with those that matter to me.

What do you love about your AF Life? (Inspired by Cindi)
I love waking up feeling healthier and stronger each day
I love not feeling panicky or out of control
I love kissing my girls at night and not having the smell of wine on my breath
I love being more present and patient with them
I love that I am not so angry all of the time
I love ordering "cranberry and soda with a twist of lime"
I love that I am starting to feel some self respect and dare I say liking myself
I love becoming more connected with people again
I love making the decision not to drink in situations where I used to--it feels so great the next morning!
I love feeling better about how I look
I love appreciating the small things such as the sun on my face, a cool breeze in the air, an unexpected kiss from one of my daughters just because...
I love that I am getting so much more done!
I love those fleeting moments when I am filled with joy and peace
I love being funny when I'm not drunk
I love that after 30+ years of drinking that I am a work in progress at the age of 50 :hAF Since April 20, 2008
4 Years!!! :lilheart:

Last night I had a slight allergy attack (loads of pollen in the air). My eyes were red, watery, & itchy, & my head was throbbing. I was able to complain about it wo/worrying that my husband would find out I was drinking. I can't count the number of times I functioned w/massive hangovers, never able to complain about it. Now, I have the right to complain wo/feeling guilty. MaryWisdom, Courage, Strength

I love that I no longer drive my 4 girls to school (we're talking 1 1/2 hours) with a hangover. That was hell and I did it for 4 months before I "reformed".
And Mary, I completely get what you said about complaining. The thing about being a sneaky drunk is that you always have to pretend you're not hungover - no matter how bad it is.
