    Abbercise 2 - 8 June - new goals anyone??!

I've got to jump back in here. Having a tough time getting any exercise in - work yes, exercise, no. makes me feel sluggish. So I am going to run 4x this week. Believe that is all I can manage at the moment though not nearly all I should be doing. I'm one of those folks who did not lose weight when I stopped drinking - when I was drinking, I really wasn't eating. Would probably lose weight if I started drinking again - but that is out of the question.

DG, the closest gym to me is a Curves. Haven't joined as I'm not really a rah-rah person - if that makes any sense. Probably would be good for me to not be so solitary though. OMW talks about running with her children - I run to be away from my children

Got to get them up for school,

      Abbercise 2 - 8 June - new goals anyone??!

      Good morning,

Ran 3 miles yesterday and said forget the sit ups. Beck, I used to run w/o kids when they were younger. Didn't take me long to figure out if I ran 10 miles that would get me outa the house more than an hour. An hour of pure joy, time to think (me time). They are older now and we have a lot of common interests, I enjoy running with them now. Especially the ones who prod me along when I'm dragging. I do like to go by myself sometimes....most of the time. I love to enjoy the out doors and nature. No ipod, love to see and listen to the world.

        Abbercise 2 - 8 June - new goals anyone??!

I just left a message with he gym guy to get with me on developing a new plan. The sessions have been spotty and I don't think I am reaching my goal at this pace. I want to put the whole thing on hold until I get back from fishing the first week of July. Until then, I have a yoga DVD. MyHeart said she does yoga. And I have a doggie to walk. I have dumbells, two bicycles, a total gym thing, exercise videos a raquet ball raquet, swim goggles and no motivation. I guess I am the biggest dumbell.

          Greenie,

I too have a motivation problem. I make myself do it because it makes me feel better mentally. A few years ago I read a study that showed, aerobic exercise (running, tennis, swimming, brisk walking etc), 4 times a week, 30 min each session is all it takes to improve mood and improve heart function. I know it improves my mood, don?t know about the other. I do know how crappy I feel when I slack so there is my motivation. Commit to do it for a week, you'll feel better

Managed my 3 mile run this morning. When the kids are out of school, I'm going to have to run early am as it gets hot and humid in Virginia. Very slow runner in the morning.

OMW - no ipod for me either. ipod is for tuning out other things - not nature. How old are your kids?

              Abbercise 2 - 8 June - new goals anyone??!

              Hey there Abbercisers.

Just got back from this summers bike trek, Great HorneyToads,
775 miles in 11 days on the road. lost 21 pounds, but I am sure that
              they will be found.

Left my home in SE Pa. and did a loop around Virginia. Started on the East
Shore of the Chesapeake [ nice and flat ] and made a right turn at Williamsburg.
Headed over to the Skyline drive [ 3 mile up hill ] and up the Shenandoah Valley, crossed the
Skyline drive again and came northeast to MD. Up to Hanover Pa and east to
              Home.

I saw some countryside that brought tears to my eyes, and some took my breath
away. Meet some very nice people and one Graduate headed across the US in search
of himself. Its funny how I always seem to witness to those that have been abused,
              like myself and the youngster.

My son started the ride with me, but called his bride2be to come get him. I enjoyed
the time with him, but I also enjoyed riding at my own pace with no one else to
              look after.

All in all, a wonderful adventure and good way to kick start the riding season.

yours in health and sobriety, with love, Sam

                Abbercise 2 - 8 June - new goals anyone??!

Hi abbercizers!! Just got back from Curves and I feel really good being 3 for 3 so far this week. Holy Moly - the computer thinks I burned over 400 calories today!! It was funny too - the "just one" conversation came up in chit chat after my workout as I was getting ready to leave. Of course these folks have no idea I'm a recovering complete drunk. I felt REALLY good though - after our thread on the topic - to be able to say - One!! What the heck good is one?? In that case, just give me none. (the context was diet and weight loss related to life, and the June "Heat It Up" challenge.) I felt "normal" making those remarks - not like a drunken leper. Hope that makes sense - it felt really good to say!

OMW - on the 4X per week, 30 minutes being good for the heart.....not sure if this is relevant (but I think so) I've been amazed in 2 weeks back to Curves what has happened to my heart rate. There is one "stepper" machine on the circuit that is specifically there for the purpose of measuring heart rate. I had to be careful not to let it go too high when I first got back to it. Today I had to push myself to get it up to the high 130's / low 140's which is around my target. I assume that means my heart is already getting a little stronger?????? (or it's a nice fantasy!) Good for you on the 3 mile run, which I would personally never do unless someone was chasing me with a knife.

DogLvr - kickboxing looks like it takes a lot of flexibility. Do you imagine that you are kicking your boss, or somebody who pissed you off when you work out? That seems like it would be a VERY cool aspect of kick boxing!

Maise - DID YOU GET ON THAT BIKE TODAY??? I'm in a real ass kickin' sort of mood, so look out! :b&d:

Caysea (I love that handle by the way and also your avatar - don't think I've mentioned that before but I thought of it!) 16 miles on the bike, then tennis. SHOW OFF!! How did your match go this morning?

HannahB - GOOD FOR YOU With 10 points off your golf score!! Can't wait to hear what you think of the new fangled gizmo tomorrow!

Mame - hopefully you are sleeping soundly right now....getting ready for your Thursday Workout Or Else!! :b&d: at your request my dear!

Beck - you should go to Curves anyway and be the anti-rah rah! Every action needs an equal and opposite reaction!! LOL on running to be AWAY from your children. I imagine that's how I would be if I had any. (It's probably better that I don't!) Good for you on 3 miles.

Greenie - Sounds like you are getting your plan together tweaking your gym program and thinking about yoga. Good for you!

Hi Sam!! Wow - 775 miles! Sounds like a beautiful trip! Are you going to post some pictures? Don't worry about the 21 pounds lost. Sadly, I believe I already found them.

                      DG,
I am waiting for my son to email the pictures.
Here is my picture taken by Ryan, the young man that I meet
                      on the road:

                      TransAm Blues: Lotus Flowers:

We chatted for about 90 minutes. I thought about him
a lot during the rest of the trip, esp during the climb to the top
                      of the mountain.

He kept calling me David, I did not make an effort to correct him, as I
knew I was being addressed, and I answer to anything.

played tennis this am and lost to my friend i usually beat. No gas in the tank legs felt like cement blocks.Doesn't matter in regards to the outcome i still got my exercise. For the people who haven't been involved in a physical fitness workout I don't want to hear that you can't. Be it a walk or stretching, yoga to running or what ever you might be interested in it will help you physically and I think more mentally to deal with this life long problem we have. It makes me feel good being in control of some aspect of my life and getting a positive out come.It also goes along with having to make a lifestyle change that is required to overcome my problem. Just as you started out saying it will be impossible to go 1 3 6 days without AL and you were able to .The same will happen with a workout program and next thing you really miss it when you skip a day.sorry to preach just feel that it has been such a big help in dealing with my problem
Great job to everyone starting and keeping up a routine

Thanks for asking, Doggiegirl. I didn't quite make it on the bike but took the dog on a 2 1/2 mile walk along the river. At least got my legs moving!

Good day abbercisers! I got my abbercise in again this morning at Curves - 4 days in a row and have now exceeded my minimum goal of 3X per week! Yeah!! I've also done amazingly well (for me - believe me, I deserve to break my arm pattin' myself on the back!) with eating low carb. I had a bit of a sugar melt down last Saturday, but that was my only off plan day since May 22. And NO cheats so far this week. (Mr. Evil, my scale, is finally being nice to me!)

Heavenly and Pamina, you two crack me up!! I think you would make very fun walking partners! ITA with Caysea that exercise REALLY helps in the AF mission - and believe me, I've spent most of my life having rashes whenever THINKING about exercise. Just find something you like to do and go with it!

Caysea, sorry you lost your match. My money is on YOU for the re-match!

Sam, thanks for that link! What a cool story. and WOW the scenery. Have you ever heard of Bat Cave North Carolina? (the same one where there are exit sign jokes that fly across the internet) It's close to where the Blue Ridge meets the other mountain ranges. The pictures on your young friend's site reminded me of that. Congratulations on your AF time!!

Good for you Mame!! I'll just have to go find me someone else to :b&d: I LOVE watching synchronized swimming! All that water :bling: I could never do it because I sort of panic when/if water goes up my nose. I'm not much for snorkeling either for that reason. Not to mention other challenges the prevent my from being a synchronized swimmer such as looking like a blimp in a bathing suit. Ya know...minor stuff like that.

Maise, a 2.5 mile dog walk sounds EXCELLENT!

Even though it took 50 years, I'm so glad I found a program that I like to do every day! That sure helps.

Bummer girl here. I called the gym guy and said I wanted to discuss my program because it is spotty. Going to Lenair for a week, then home a week, then fishing w/ hubby a week. Etc. He doesn't call me back. I'm not feeling the love... or my money's worth. He is an independent contractor at the gym at which I'm a paying member. I know what I need to do and take maters into my won hands but to pay him a bunch of money up front I expect return phone calls. The evil twin may get released. Or else I'm telling Noelle :H
