Booze Busters 30 Day AF Challenge - Week of June 2

MM, I loved your Buddhist quote. Just finished reading a book by the Dalai Lama... about true happiness. It was a great read, he is incredibly wise. If the world could have one ruler, he?d have my vote.

MM thanks for the quote - it hiot the spot for me today.

And I'm better!! DG - your comments on cold recovery and alcohol ring true for me. I had a dose of pleurisy a couple of years ago and since then colds tend to go to my chest and take 7-10 days to clear. I've wondered how much alcohol has contributed to those slow recoveries - wouldn't be surprising given how it strips Vit C out of your body! This one went on for only 3-4 days and never went to my chest at all. So I guess I have my answer!

At a conference for the next 2 days - looking forward to it. Lots of Brits and Aussies over for it and I'll have a chance to catch up with a few people that I only get to see every couple of years.

have a good day abbing everyone!

Booze Busters 30 Day AF Challenge - Week of June 2

Hi again!! LOL - looks like I'm spending lots of time (aka probably too much) here on MWO again today but what the heck...we had thunderstorms this afternoon so that shall be my excuse for indulging!

MM - I love your thoughts of a wonderful AF summer. I'm going to hang onto that thought! Thank you also for sharing such an important quote. I can get myself so wrapped up in a goal that I definitely lose sight of who I am and who I am becoming. Lots to think about.

OMW - which book did you read about the Dali Lama, or which do you recommend for a first time reader on that topic? I'm looking to melt a hole in my new libarary card from excessive use. I'm interesting in learning more about the Dali Lama and have just never taken the time.

Mame I'm glad you are feeling better. I too am just astounded at how wretched I felt on Saturday - especially by the afternoon and on Sunday - and how quickly I'm feeling better. **Lesson Alert!!** Another thing to love about AF. Have fun at your conference. Sounds like fun to see old friends.

Teardrop, I hear ya on the No Naps. (or in my case, late afternoon pass outs). It's a beautiful thing. You SHOULD get back to some sort of fun activity with your doggy! There are so many different things you can do with dogs. I look at Mr. Doggy and Ferguson every Saturday (and practice during the week) and the bond they have developed is SO incredible. Ferguson LIVES to go train with daddy! I like playing frisbee with Cleopatra the mutt (she's a FLYER and loves it). Now that AL isn't my highest priority of the day any more, I would like to get back to tracking the old beagle a little. He's good at that and loves finding the food!

I feel great after I FINALLY got to Curves for the workout. It's a good AF afternoon.

        Be happy..

        DG

Booze Busters 30 Day AF Challenge - Week of June 2

          June!!

Hi BBers! Awesome, a new JUNE tread! June is my favorite month next to October!! I feel so excited to be out of winter, out of the deep woods of drinking and into the sunshine (even though it hasn't been very sunny yet).

There is something awesome about looking back and knowing I am going to cross over the 1/2 year mark in a few weeks that makes me giddy inside! I know I shouldn't be counting months like I do - but some days that is what keeps me going forward! I am hoping that by year 2 I just have forgotten about drinking - but this year - everything is a first. It's been so so so many years since I had a AF year. What - maybe since I was 13 years old!! IKES. So this really is about counting the days, months and then years for me! A whole new life with out AL is a whole new life! I am starting to feel like a little girl who has been given a beautiful new dress to wear. I don't want to 'spill' on it - but know it has no value unless its worn!

So BBers - JUNE is going to be a special month. Day by day.

          Love to all

Yeah... about that needing less sleep thing... it's getting on for 1am here and I'm wide awake! I think it was too much cheese at dinner - can't blame it on the (no) booze.

DG & Mame: glad you're feeling better.
Cindi: hope you're feeling better, and thanks for the cheerleading!
Teardrop: I'm glad the counselling is helping you. I MUST do something about that too.
Liv: I love your new dress analogy: "I don't want to 'spill' on it - but know it has no value unless its worn!" Approaching six months is amazing.

Have a great evening/morning/wee small hours of insomnia everyone...

Hi all. I hope you are recovering from your cold DG and that Cindi?s sinus infection is clearing. Summer colds are no fun! Marshy, Kaddy,,and Liv you are an inspiration, as are your Buddist quotes, MM. I?m looking forward to having your energy Teardrop. Have fun at your conference, Mame. Keep up the good work Dolphin and Anna.

Well, I did not make it through last Friday dinner with no wine ? habit was just too strong. But at least I got right back on track and did not cave to the voice saying, ?well you may as well just start again next Mon.? and had none Sat or even Sunday at a party. So I just completed day 4. I started a water aerobics class that is held in an outdoor pool. It was great!

It is 8 am here in the UK and I see kaddy has beaten me to it!
Off to work, so it was a quick read over the latest posts and so glad to hear you all sounding upbeat!
I will read more closely when I get home late afternoon and say hi individually.
Off to take my supps - I am on ginko for memory and circulation, Solgar vit B and C complex, also muti-minerals tab, and milk thistle and lecithin, of which more later-detalis posted by determinator on holistic thread.

oh, had an amazing night's sleep, thanks to lavender oil on the pillow - or maybe it was my worry doll absorbing all the stress?
                    !

enjoy yourselves, whatever you're up to today mad dash so have a great day y'all, catch you later!

Booze Busters 30 Day AF Challenge - Week of June 2

                      hello from here!

                      Hi all,

keep those summer thoughts coming - we are in the middle of winter here and it helps to hear about the sun, even if I don't see much of it!! Well, that's not totally true - we have a mixture of some beautiful blue days but which are really crispy and cold, and rainy grey ones which are miserable but a bit warmer.

MM - thought about the quote all day and worked out that what got me about it was the recognition of intrinsic motivation (becoming the best person I can be) vs the external stuff (achieving a goal). I'm often very task focussed and it is easy to lose the woods for the trees.

                      Liv - :thanks:

Dalai Lama - I'm a bit ..... cynical?? ex-Catholic?? whatever ... but I bought his "Ancient Wisdom, Modern World" while in Nepal a couple of years ago. Really liked it - and very relevant to issues about global warming, sustainability, personal accountability etc etc.

And I'm really enjoying my conference - so nice to catch up with old colleagues and very affirming for me professionally. And I have to say that I am really feeling my brain synapses starting to dust themselves off - been a long time since that happened!!

** reproduction alert** But the most exciting news is that 2 friends (both elderly prima gravida!! - one 38 and one 43) both went into labour tonight. Looking forward to new babies tomorrow!!

now doesn't that warm the cockles of your heart?! .....

Booze Busters 30 Day AF Challenge - Week of June 2

                        Good Day Booze Busters!!!

Liv, I loved your post about coming into the sunshine of summer approaching 6 months AF!! You must feel so fabulous. On the counting thing - some do, some don't, I think any approach is fair game as long as it supports the mission!

Marshy - ITA that AF sleep is different and better and I don't feel the need for so much of it. And your talk of Chinese food is making me hungry!! Did you save me some??

dolphin, congrats on day 11!! They seem like they are rackin' up fast for you! Good job.

Louise, GOOD FOR YOU getting right on the Saturday wagon, and sticking to your guns through the Sunday party. Congrats on Day 4! Wow - outdoor water aeorobics sounds like FUN.

Kaddy and Louise - one of me room mates from college started swimming at the school pool way back then and about 28 years later she is still an avid swimmer - several times a week. You should see her shapely and slender middle aged bod! Swimming is good - wish I had done that instead of elbow exercises all these years. Kaddy, glad things are OK - hope you are not fudgin' the truth there! (because we CARE about you!!!)

Anna - what's a worry doll? Is that like a voodoo doll? Sleeping with lavendar on your pillow sounds heavenly. I need to check out the Deter post or thread that you are talking about.

Mame, do you get much snow where you are in NZ? (I need to learn some about your country in general and the part where you live in particular!) Or just cold in the winter? Winter rain IMO is YUK YUK DOUBLE YUK. I'd rather have snow. I have corresponded some with a guy in NZ who is trying to do Schutzhund sport with his dogs but I guess there aren't too many folks in his neck of the woods to train with. It's hard to do by yourself. BABIES???? Let us know more when they are born!! Glad you are having fun at the conference.

Well it's Day 14 AF here and I am really happy to be at the 2 week mark! This time the time is flying by, and I think that's a good thing. I can't believe I'm not stressed about having to go visit the in-laws tonight for dinner. I'm sure somebody bought a bottle of wine just to be polite and offer me some. (I'm really the only drinker - a couple others might have ONE glass of wine if it's there) I better get my explanation ready. Actually it's a no brainer. I have lots of weight to lose, so I don't even have to lie. I'm trying to get rid of the flab, so no thank you.

Hope everyone is having a stellar day!

                        DG

Glad your conference is fun Mame. DG, Yeah for 2 weeks!!! Sorry you had to play taxi driver Teardrop. I am just finishing day 5. Enjoyed my water exercise out in the sun again. But a bit crabby rest of the day. I'm back on weight watchers and between the time I spend here to keep from drinking, tracking all my supplements, Hypno cds, finding recipes that fit on my diet my that won't make my husband feel very deprived and making sure I exercise everyday, I'm tired. But I'm lucky to have the time off from work for a while to do it and I know I'll feel much better soon if I stick with it. Hope everyone else is doing well.
