Cindi, Ultram (tramadol) is great. It is actually an opioid, but in a different group than the addictive ones. It has been thoroughly tested and shows very little habit-forming potential (I think it is at about the same risk level for addiction as Ibuprofen). Anyway, it is a pretty strong pain reliever, which helped me tremendously at one time when I had some surgery.
The side effects are supposed to include drowsiness, but I found it to be more of an "upper"-- but everyone is different. I really liked it, it gave me a little buzz, and I even thought I could use it to get off AL, ha ha, typical addictive personality thinking!
Anyway, glad you found one of the few drugs I ever liked.
One word of caution: another side effect is constipation. That's probably the only reason I didn't develop another addiction lol.
