    The abbercise posse wants YOU!!

    new exercise week!!

Another Monday morning where I really didn't feel like getting up ...... did another 15 minute run and it was a little bit easier than Saturday.

DG - congrats on the inches lost!! I've sometimes found that once they start to disappear they can go quite fast ...... and then just when you are starting to feel that its all a piece of cake, of course you plateau for a while!!! Anyway, I'm really happy that you are getting some rewards for all that hard work!

Sped - keen on hearing about your training programe too! I've just started on a programme for a triathlon here in summer - still another 6 months away!! What distance is the Denver one?

hope you all enjoy your endorphins!

With you in spirit but there hasn't been a spare second the last couple of weeks.

Skipping rope on top of the fridge with a game plan that whenever I do have a few minutes, I'll step outside the back door and have a go.

On the plus side I had my second weigh in at weightwatchers on Wednesday and had lost 5 pounds. I think because the 12 pounds went on so quickly my body is keen to be shot of it. I certainly didn't manage to stay completely within my points allowance although I haven't really got the hang of counting them.

Anyway this is an excercise thread not a weight loss thread and you all have much loftier goals than mine. I'll keep reading about you all, maybe when life calms down a bit it will get me to the gym.

impressed with the 5lbs! Way to go!!

I can only skip for about a minute at a time so it might take you less time than you think!!!

and actually I think that most of us are doing the weight loss thing too!! I sure as hell am - have put on about a kg a year for the last 17 years and I am SOOOOOOO sick of feeling like this.

        Hi, may I join you?
I joined the gym last week and have committed to working with a personal trainer 3x/wk. I've NEVER been into exercise before, and am very overweight, so this is HUGE for me! I have my fitness consultation tomorrow, and will set up appointments with my trainer. Probably start next week. But I intend to begin this week with diet and working out on my eliptical.

So it would be great if I could join in your abbercise posse! I also know I will need to remain abs during this fitness program (I've cut way way back on al, but not completely out). So being here with you abbers will be fabulous!

        Thanks, and happy day!

Hi Mame and thanks for kicking off the new abbercise week.

Loppy - weight loss is a huge goal for me too, in addition to the other health benefits and ANTI-AL ENDORPHINS!!! Congrats on your 5lb loss! I think keeping the jump rope handy for whenever you have a moment sounds like a great start.

Welcome MOW!! Sounds like you have a great plan too. I have about 50 pounds to lose - so I will be here abbercising for a LONG time!! We can do this too!

Deter, Mr. Doggy would definitley count chain sawing as exercise!! The mountain bike ride sounds like a LOT more fun.

Had a decent workout today. Not quite up there with last Monday, but my overall work last week was quite a bit more than the week previous. So I think progress is still being made on average. I sure reached the point of failure on several machines by the last rep or 2. 415 calories burned according to that dang computer! And this week is a scrabble type game. I didn't come up with a very long word, but I did get a word so put some fun points in addition to workout points on the board for the best team in the whole world - the Red Team. :H

Abbercising is a wonderful thing! Have fun all who are yet to check in with Mame's posse!

Hi all, start to another week, which gives us the opportunity to do good for ourselves.Just got back a couple of hours ago from my tennis workout, with the pro.He has no mercy on us which is what I need.Along with the great physical workout comes the aspect of including the mental side of tennis and he is an expert at this.I take the lesson along with my friend who is moderating [i am AF] so it is a great positive in many ways for both of us.
Took the weekend off from tennis but my wife and I got in a 15 mile bike ride Sunday AM .It feels great to get out of the house at 7 am NOT HUNGOVER and enjoy the start of a day .

                morning all!

MOW - welcome and good on you for taking that step. I know how hard it can be to do that if you haven't been into exercise before (where do I start? What do I wear? Is this strange thing that is happening to my body since I've started doing this normal????:H) and also when you are overweight. I was in a walking group last year with a woman who has lived in the same town as I do for about 20 years, and I always noticed her about the place because she was pretty big. About 3 years ago she decided that she was going to get rid of it, enrolled in a gym, and started walking (not just strolling, but power walking). Over the last 3 years she has lost about 40kg, and she just looks terrific. She is still big physically (you cant do anything about your build!) but I just have so much admiration for her having stuck to it.

So you can do it and we are all here to keep you motivated!!!

Caysea - 15 mile bike ride sounds good on a Sunday morning!! I still haven't pumped up my bike tyre which was one of my goals for June!! (but I did manage to fix my bike computer!)

Det - is the mountain bike riding the type where you do off-road trails and fall off and hurt yourself??!! I've never seen the attraction myslef - give me a long flat sea board route any day!!

DG - you may need a couple of days to let your body rest and recover before you try to push it harder again!!

Abberciser DG checkin' in with Mame's posse!

Mame, I've considered taking a couple days off, but I'm really trusting the Curves system the way it was designed. The cool thing is that since I've been working out there, I have NEVER pulled a muscle or been excessively sore - not even once. The thing I think I need to watch is making sure I don't over do any machines on my 80% "alternate" days. Sometimes I get into flashing green (which means back off a little) and that's probably what's affecting me. We'll see. I love the extra calories burn I get with the 80% days rather than taking those as days off. I would probably burn more on my 100% days if I took total days off in between, but I would be really reducing the aerobic side of my workouts for the week. (I can't believe my lazy a$$ is saything this!!)

Mame that is a great story about the gal in your neighborhood!! I WANNA BE THAT STORY IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD!!! Please keep :b&d: me if I ever start slacking off, OK?

Caysea your tennis pro sounds very interesting. I competed in a sport when I was a kid, and the mental game was quite important - I guess I learned something about that before I was even old enough to know what I was learning. Through my adult life I have always found the mental "toughness" required in sports or business or even the AF battle to be very intriquing. I hope maybe you will share some of the things your coach is teaching you about that - I've never really played tennis so have no idea.... HEAR HEAR DITTO DITTO on getting up to do something fun at 7AM SANS HANGOVER!!! I love that. I hope I never forget how wonderful that feels compared to being hungover every single morning of my life to some degree or other.

OK - where is everyone else?????? :b&d:

Today was 80% day and the workout felt very comfortable. Computer says 405 calories burned. YEAH!! All that while in the old days, I would have probably still been asleep.
Mr. Evil budged only slightly down in weight today, but the fat% is improving more than the pounds which is a good thing. My official monthy weigh and measure at Curves will be Thursday. I'm actually looking forward to it. Can't believe I said that!

                  Happy Abbercising!!

                    Hi All
Great to see people sticking with their programs.I have realized at this age {56} that I am not making the Olympics or playing any sport professionally {actually new this a long time ago}.I do know that It is great to get into a workout routine and have control over some part of my life.My al cravings are being replaced with desires to get in a good workout and stick with a program.I find that I am wanting to get the right amount of sleep and eat right in order to have the energy needed to compete. Win or lose the pure enjoyment of participating has me feeling like a kid again.Yes I am enjoying life a lot more .Played tennisTues and today felt great

This stuff keeps me sober like nothing else can. 55 days AF.

I had a day off exercise yesterday .... just felt like my body needed it. Went tot he gyn this mrning and did 30 mins on the bike, and then my weights circuit, but it felt really hard. But then sometimes it just does!!

Celebrated afterwards with scrambled eggs on toast which was very yummy!!

Hi all, well I was in China last week for work and I did get to the hotel gym every morning except one...it's great being able to get up & just go to the gym before brekkie without having to travel. However was really busy working so didn't do anything on the comp. but work stuff - even forgot to email my hubby for a couple of days - was hectic!!!

Good job Mame on keeping it all going & well done everyone else on working so hard to reach your goals. The support here is great!!!

Wow I cannot believe I forgot to check in with the abberciser posse yesterday!! I did my Curves workout - it was a 100% day and I was feeling good. Mame - I think I know what you mean about it feeling "hard" on the weights yesterday - some days if feels like a real push, and yet the stats say you didn't work as hard - other days it feels easier yet you do more. Anyway, Evil Komputer said 491 calorie burn which is the highest it's ever been I think after working out on consecutive prior days.

I will be going early this morning due to a hectic day planned - will REALLY need my endorphins!! Today is weigh and measure day too. I know how the weight will turn out because NO WAY could I go a month without peeking. But...I'm really interested in the measurements to see what progress, if any has been made there. Will report back later after the workout and torture oops I mean weigh and measure is complete.

Caysea, I love your wonderful insights about exercise and also the "mental game" and where it all fits into your life these days. I often look at my mother who is 76 years old showing her ponies - and let me tell you what - she is a little competitive MONSTER having a blast!!! The youngsters have nothin' on her. Should we all be like that in our 70's!!

Spedtech, I bet the training gets intense in the last 11 days? Or do you back off a bit to conserve engergy? You'll have to let us know exactly when your start time is and all that when the day draws even closer so we can be rooting for you!! Congrats on 55 AF days!!

Angelcakes, good for you making workouts a priority even on a busy trip. What kind of work do you do??

Mame, keep rockin' those bikes and weights!!! Hang in there with your crazy (right now) life and let those endorphins help you kick some booty!

Wow. If only all the future weigh and measures could go like this one!!

                              The Evil Equipment says....

8.5 pounds lost since 5/22. 3.5 inches lost from the parts they measure. Body fat% down 2.9% which translates to 9.1 pounds fat lost (umm...yes, I have a lot of that to lose!). My strength has also improved by some number that I'm sure means something, but is arbitrary to me!! Average calorie burns have gone from 370 to 425 per workout.

WHEEE!!! I know that initial progress can be made pretty quick when starting from "Blob" status so I know it won't be this dramatic every month. But I'll celebrate this progress for now along with this HF Day!!!! I'm really happy! This is another thing that makes sobriety so worth it.
