    suggestions for AF wines

    good afternoon all...

anybody have an AF wine to rave about?
now that i really feel like being drunk is a bad idea... i would still like to enjoy the beautiful wine glasses i've collected.
i briefly surfed the net on this topic but have found only negative opinions.
there must be a few good AF wines out there?

    right?

Hi 1967. I have only tried a couple - one was under the brand name Fre and the other was (I think) Ariel. One was a white and one a blush. I found both of them too sweet for my taste. But I DID drink them out of a favorite wine glass - so I think I understand your point there - the festive feeling without the AL. They tasted better to me with a little crushed ice and some club soda added.

Once I added the ice and soda to the AF wine to make it "OK" for my taste, I figured I could put just about anything in my festive wine glass for the same effect - and it would probably taste better to me than the AF wine did -even doctored up. I have since made fresh lemonade (I use Stevia for sweetener - FWIW) with some crushed ice and club soda for such occassions - I personally like that better.

I do have a bottle of red AF wine I have yet to try that was recommended by a poster here - I wish I could remember who so I could give proper credit. That person also didn't care for the sweetness of the white and blush, but liked the reds better.

Sorry that my own news isn't so encouraging, but I'm always interested in more info so maybe someone will be along with news of other brands!!

I HAVE taken a liking to AF beer for certain occassions where beer drinking goes on and seems appropriate. (like after dog training on Saturdays - especially during the summer!!) Maybe it's because I haven't been much of a beer drinker since college (many years ago) so I don't have any fancy taste in beer at this time. I'm fine with a really light one like Sharp's, or with something that tastes more like "real" beer - now I can't remember the name - it's a German import, reasonably priced, that starts with a "C." St. Pauli Girl was recently recommended here at MWO - my memory is failing me again - Chief maybe?? I haven't had a chance to try that one yet. LOL - my weigh and measure is this week at Curves, so I haven't treated myself to an AF beer in over a week! NEVER would have had the dicipline to avoid real booze that long in the interest of weight loss!

Anyway....sorry to drift off your topic - just 2 cents and you get change back.

        Hi 1967,
Over the years I have just about tried the lot of them and found them all wanting.
Now I make my own lemonade as well as all sorts of tisane, teas etc. in the morning, put the pitcher in the fridge and I drink them all day and with dinner out of my crystal glasses. No need to let good glasses go to waste.
        Have a good one.

Can you believe SA don't have and AF wine!! I have searched high and low... phoning around as I do not dare step foot into a bottle store and NOTHING!! We can get a AF beer here - only one mind but no wine so it's iced green tea for me.

DeeBee, you can't go wrong with iced green tea. I'm really liking that myself these days.

In Europe they make a lot of fancy fruit teas and it is common to find a cold pitcher of tea on the table at most mealtimes instead of wines. I reckon you could probably find a recipe online or even purchase online? I also have this issue of 'What to Drink??'
Best thing I like is a bit of cranberry juice, ice & lemonade or soda.. can add a bit of blackcurrant cordial to balance the tartness? Oh and I also like greek nettle tea (no caffine) as it's important for me to avoid caffine at night.
              Cheers!

WOW - I love All recipes – complete resource for recipes and cooking tips for cooking. The search feature is great. I just did a search for "mocktails" and all KINDS of interesting looking stuff came up. I about peed my pants when I saw "Abstinence on the Beach" as a recipe on the list.

I'll be surfing THAT list some more for unusual ideas!

I have not had AF wine that tastes good at all. It is better to just drink juice, IMHO. I got some blueberry juice which is a little tart, and reminds me a little of red wine.

I've recently discovered elderflower presse (elderflower and fizzy water basically). It's light and refreshing and quite tart, so it tastes like a grown-up drink not a sweet soft drink. Great with loads of ice on a hot day.
