MON 9/29 TWO WEEKS AF** YAAAAYYY!!

Right now I am so touched by all the wonderful feed back I got on yesterday's thread. You all are such an awesome support network. As I've said before, I don't have time to sit on the computer at chit chat as much as I might like to, but putting my daily thread helps me stay committed to visiting this website.
Yesterday was a GREAT day :-) No cravings! No arguments with the hubby! Children who behaved! (Mostly). I am trying to take it one day at a time as some of you advised, and not looking at the "Wow! Still getting cravings after 8 years!".
I've decided I am going to start a food journal today and write done EVERYTHING I consume throughout the day. I've done this before and when you have to write it down, you tend not to snack so much. I think I've been using food as a substitute for my wine and it's got to stop. Two weeks under my belt is a good time to start controlling the food intake.
Here I go with today. Feeling strong!!!!!

          HI MM!

Thinking back, getting over the first 2 weeks was the hardest part for me. Had so much to deal with with the cravings, mood swings, etc. I think after that period, like you, I had some kind of mind-set and new purpose or good intentions to stay AF. I still needed quite a lot of sugary things though, which I too had used to replace the sugar in the cider I drank. Slightly different maybe to your situation if you've been using food as a psychological substitute rather than a physical replacement. But either way 2 weeks is definitely the time to start thinking about reducing these things (or it was for me!). A food diary is a great idea too as you won't take things for granted so easily once you see it in black and white and see the behavioral patterns you've formed.

Good on ya for getting this far and taking the next steps.

I was browsing a Louise Hay site and she made mention to avoid wheat and dairy when overcoming alcohol addiction.

Mormon Mom - huge congratulations on making the 2 week sober mark!! You are on your way. I journal my food in an old PC software program called life form. Now there are nice programs free on the web to accomplish the same thing! FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal is one that lots of people use. So if you are wanting to keep track of additional info besides just what you eat (i.e. count up the calories or carbs or other nutritional info) these programs do it for you!!

              Have a great week.

MM, way to go!! 2 weeks, very nice!

In addition to Doggies suggestions for online food diary trackers, the FDA has a nice one as do prevention magazine and slim fast. Slim fast has a menu you can follow if you want. It is easily altered to fit you needs.

On the other hand, we all know what is sensible to eat and what to avoid. Years ago I was given some advice by a fitness expert. If you want to loose weight; first figure out your ideal caloric intake given your life style, gender and body structure. (find an online calculator) Then subtract 500 calories. You should shoot for that number. It is best to eliminate 1/2 the calories by food and burn off the other 250 by exercise. By doing this you should loose roughly 1 to 2 pounds per week.
With this said?.gosh I love chocolate and sweets Also love sitting on my butt at the computer.:H

                Again congrats

Congratulations on 2 weeks AF - that's brilliant - have just been reading your thread from yesterday when you were struggling. WELL DONE. I know how hard it is with young children who drive you crazy - for me alchohol formed an escape in the evenings. Was almost tee total until I had kids !!!!!
I'm now on day 29 and I do think it's easier than in the first 2 weeks but I'm still just trying to take it one day at a time. I think this "one day at a time" philosophy should apply to lots of things in life - not just alcohol. Most people myself included - I am my own worst enemy here, spend most of the time worrying about the past which they cannot change and worrying about the future -things that may never happen instead of enjoying the present now.
                  Good luck and keep going
