    December 29th

    Greetings everyone,

Time for a new week & thread. We had a surprisingly nice day here, sunny & 62 degrees. Felt more like Easter than Christmas.
Someone’s horses got loose today & 3 of them ended up in my backyard this morning. They made a real mess, the ground was soaked from all the erain so they really turfed up the yard. After a while 2 guys showed up (not the owners but hired hands I think) & took them home. Never a dull moment in cow country hahah!!

Hello to all & hope you had a good day!

MAE ALL...thanks for kicking off the new thread Lav. We had a sunny 19F here. LOL We're expecting cooler weather this week but not an Arctic Deepfreeze so hopefully the gift from Canada isn't too harsh for you Lav. Enjoyed my Eggs Benny breakfast with my brother and SIL this morning, had to laugh that when I got to their place there was no sign of Christmas. They go all out for the grandkids and were so done. LOL

Lav...be thankful it was horses in your yard and not cattle! Living at the ranch in Duchess we were between the government grazing land and the herd owners so every spring they had to bring the herds home. They would come down (about 60 black angus cattle) from the fields and if they followed "the rules" would be fine to cross our creek but of course it only took one to go his own way and the herd followed. They couldn't cross on the bridge over the creek as we had a cattle guard so the wranglers had to quickly dismantle the barbed wire fence to let them through. It was actually amazing to watch.

Still trying to figure out what day of the week it is, have to remember that I don't have to go to work tomorrow. LOL

Thinking of everyone. Sam, thinking of you! Have a good night all....PPQP

      Hey everyone,

Glad to see you PQ, I was getting lonely here Lol
Not much going on here, the holidays are pretty much over. We didn’t drag out all the usual decorations this year so packing up won’t be too bad & I’m OK with that. I found out that the horses also messed up the lawn of the people who live behind us (behind the row of white pines). That guy was pretty pissed off too. YB figures there’s at least 150 divots that need to be filled in, oh well.

PQ, glad you enjoyed the visit with your brother & his wife. I can’t imagine cattle romping thru here, that would be a real nightmare.
I see we have a 75% chance of snow next Monday & after that the high temps will only be in the 20’s & 30’s. Still not as cold as where you are.

Hello to everyone else & wishing a good night for all!

MAE ALL...it's been a tough day. Just found out that the childcare director passed away on boxing day. My heart is having a hard time accepting she's gone.

PQ, that is sad news about the childcare director, sorry to hear that. Try to remember she is no longer suffering, she’s found peace.

Hello to everyone as we end 2024.
Not sure I’m really looking forward to the new year considering the political environment as it is in the US.There’s so many threats of changes & they’re not good or positive changes. Hopefully none of that will come to fruition.

On that note I will wish everyone a good night & A Happy New Year!

            Happy New Year!
I lost all control of time when the little family of D3, her HB, barely 2 y/o Andy, 4 month old Ayla, and their dog stayed with me for the last few days. It was bliss holding & snuggling that baby! And I enjoyed having company, and watching TV with them in the evenings after the babies were in bed. But I couldn’t keep up with my home therapies, or any laundry or cleaning. And I wish people would travel without their dogs. While I like their little dog, she scratched away at the door and her paws bled all over my brand new white carpeting. Like seriously it looked like a crime scene in here. PQ, I like how your brother hires a pet sitter! Andy is a nice boy, but my neuropathy with its pain and mobility problems is pretty kicked up, and so toddlers are hard for me.
I went to my neighbor’s house for New Year’s Eve, and had a nice dinner and dessert, and a quiet time enjoying conversation, and made it past midnight!

PQ, I enjoyed a peek into what your ranch life was like, and the cattle crossing!
Lav, that is so annoying that your yard and your neighbor’s yard were so damaged by the loose horses.

PQ, the finality of death is so hard. And now you have lost a long-time friend and colleague whom you interacted with near daily, and with no closure; as she left one day and never came back. I hate cancer. My son-in-law has struggled with the sudden disappearance this Fall and death soon after of his close work colleague too, and feels the sting of it worse since they were the same age (37).

I wonder what will happen in the world this year, and feel foreboding.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Greetings on this 1st day of 2025!

Starting a new year with not 1 but 2 terrorist attacks is rather foreboding Slo. One in NO, the other in Vegas. Makes me want to stay home & away from crowds, that’s for sure.
I’m glad you had lots of company Slo, even though it’s exhausting. I hope you can get right back to your therapies & back on the road to wellness.

Hello to all the other usuals, hope to see some of you here soon.

              Have a nice night all!

              Lav

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S (a day late) ALL....I just checked out for new year's day. Didn't even turn the tv on, silenced my phone as I just didn't want to deal with anything and basically sat and read all. Back to my normal routine today, watching the news and drinking coffee at the moment. We got snow and our temps have dropped again. I'll have to go out at some time to check out the little free library as I've run out of things to read. LOL

Lav...it will be interesting to see what 2025 brings. Things are crazy here politically wise too, I think our Prime Minister is on his way out along with the Liberal Party which has been in power forever.

Slo...that was quite the group that congregated at your place, no wonder you got out of your home therapy routines. I agree about the dogs, when the boys and I went to my brother's for dinner the other night they have 2 dogs and their son brought his dog when they came. Of course each dog wants your total attention.

Shout out to Mick and the rest of the gang. Have a good day all....PPQP

                  Greetings,

We’ve had some real icy winds today ahead of the cold front, Brrr.. May get a little snow tomorrow, oh boy.
Not much going on here, grateful the holiday stuff is over, packed up & put away.

PQ, it’s good to take a quiet day for yourself, you deserve one.
I read that someone in your Parliament has already told Trump to piss off, Lol. Please tell them to keep doing that, haha!
I hope you found more books to read.

Hello to the rest of the crowd & wishing a good night for all!

                    Howdy!

That was the perfect New Year’s Day you had, PQ! In my book, anyways. No pun intended.
I like their little dog, but how can one tiny dog bleed that much?! It covered about a 9 x 24” area of my new snowy white carpeting, plus the sprays on the door, wall, and carpet. And if it didn’t bleed, it would pee, puke, poop, or scratch in my place. I allow the little dog of D3’s, but I will not have D1 or D2’s dogs here. They are not allowed.

I don’t like crowd events much anyways, Lav; and now feel like I do the right thing by largely avoiding them. We had a SUV plow into the local Christmas parade crowd & participants here a few years back. Senseless deaths and injuries.
I took Christmas cards down today, as well as the plastic Christmas bells I hung on either side of the garage -my nod to Christmas this year.

The sun came back today! I got my hair cut & done today. That was my outing!

                      Hey everyone,

We’ve had a light snowfall for a few hours, the main event will be Sunday night into Monday. I guess it’ s just time for winter.
Cleaned out the fridge & made a fabulous snack for the old chickens which they really enjoyed.

Slo, get a pro in to clean the bloodied carpet & send the bill to your daughter. You shouldn’t have to put up with that & the expense.
My son walked in here years ago with a young chocolate lab who proceeded to pee on everything. I made my son clean it up LOL. He never said a word either.
I’m glad the holidays are done & now we can pay attention to everything else.

Hello to the entire crew & wishing everyone a nice night!

MAE All....quiet day here, it's freezing outside so just stayed in all day. It was a down day, I need to get back to work and my routine. Did speak to someone about the childcare director so got an update on what's happening. They're not planning anything until Feb/Mar. Lots of out of town family and everyone's just getting over Christmas. Not much else to report. Have a good night all...PPQP

                          Evening here,

Lav, it’s so nice that you think to make nice snacks for your chickens, like the oatmeal & apples that you made them the other week.

I went out to my little brother’s house to retrieve some left-behind grandkid Christmas gifts. Well, he’s not that little anymore since he’s 50. His teens scattered since they’re teens now, so just he & I went out for the dinner I had suggested we could do together. OMG, my brother is a barfly. All the people who work there know him (too) well, and he knows the other patrons as well. He plays pull tabs. They top off his drinks for free. He didn’t get anything to eat, just drank. He went on a rant about how much he hates death. I said it touched him too closely. His eyes welled up, then spilled over with tears rolling down his cheeks. I said something like “You miss her”, and his throat swelled up and he could barely nod. He just can’t get over the death of his beautiful, outgoing, loving, larger-than-life young wife some years ago; and I guess he never will. He’s in deep with alcohol, and embraces alcohol culture and lifestyle; and I guess this is the way it will be, until it kills him.
I was glad that I am 6+ years AF, and can go sit in a bar and not get reeled in.

PQ, I thought you were back to work. Not until Monday? That’s a long time to wait for services for the childcare director.

                              Hey everyone,

it’s 25 degrees today & the driveway is icy. Had to creep across it carefully to get to the chickens this morning. I’m really not in the mood for a slip & fall & fracture right now, Lol
So our big snowstorm arrives late Sunday evening & goes on all day from what I hear, swell. No plans to do anything or go anywhere so I’ll just hunker down.

PQ, I have found delaying funeral services is more common these days. I kinda think it gives people time to adjust & calm down a bit before saying final goodbyes.
Keep yourself safe & warm this weekend.

Slo, my chickens gobble up anything I put out for them, they are grateful I guess.
Sorry to hear about your brother, he does sound lost. It’s a shame he hasn’t tried getting some help, even from a bereavement group. Alcohol won’t make anything better, we all know that. I hope his kids don’t follow in his footsteps.

Mick, so how was Dad doing today? Any change in him?

Hello to Pie, Cyn & everyone.
