WIP - funny about the 'Seniors Home' analogy! I think your evening sounds like fun! Have a great time!

I really need to get my butt in gear and get going here. I have a couple of gifts to return for my kids. Even if I don't get that far today, I still need to get to a clinic to have my prescription refilled seeing I don't have a 'real' doctor here in this city. Finding a great doctor, like my last one is impossible! I am hoping to get a referral list, if possible.

I also would like to get some fixings for the dinner I am making tonight. Man, it seems like all I do these days is eat! :H

I, too don't remember the last time I made it to New Years. Sober or drunk. I am always in bed by 10pm the lastest. So no big whoopty do here.

Hailey received the game Hungry, Hungry Hippo for Christmas and that is what is on our agenda along with some eats. (I looooooooove that game).

Oh dear - it just started to snow again. LOL! Have a great day everyone!

      Hi All,

Thanks for the welcome back! It's good to see some of the old faces around still - Deter and AAthlete - you were two amazing inspirations 'back then' so great to see you both going strong!

I'm afraid I'm taking the bull by the horns this evening and actually heading to a party - strangely I always found it easier to control my drinking when out of the house and as the 'mind set' has kicked in I'm confident that if I'm armed, aware and keep a clear picture of where/how I want to be tomorrow, I can get through unscathed - that and I'm driving which is always a good excuse not to drink. I've already bought the dress, so can't back down now!

Some of you must already be in your New Year, so I wish everyone a fantastic, safe, happy and sober new year - Deter is absolutely right, the feeling of being AF was wonderful and I can't believe I chose to give it up. I'm afraid I also agree with the 3 months thing not being the gold at the end of the rainbow - it was after 3 months that I relaxed and caved in so looking more at AAs and WIPs feelings on it being something to be on guard against whilst replacing old habits with new.

Best wishes to all, and it's great to be back amongst inspirational, understanding, supportive people!

Top of the New Years Eve ABerooooooos!!!

River so glad you don't fall for the excuse to drink because you have children anymore. You are actually giving them a huge GIFT by showing them that adults don't NEED alcohol to be happy, healthy and fun-loving.

Dx and I are hosting a party with 3 other couples coming over (they drink but that's ok) I have my "Defcon2 AF protocol" in place and am ready for anything.

I'll be cooking up a storm of goodies from scratch to include:

basil/ricotta manicotti with lemon cream sauce
        grilled lamb chops with lavender
        eggplant/tomato roast
        Italian Ahi carpaccio
brocollini with a crapload of garlic

        man....I'm hungry already.

everyone be well and have a very safe and extremely happy New Years Eve!!!

Sober New Years Eve is the Plan for me today.
The perfect way to ring in the new AF year I hope to achieve.

Feeling a little stronger emotionally these days. Drinking after my 30 days really kicked me in the gut. BUT, I will not quit quitting :H

I wish you all a wonderful New Year!

Thank you for being here. Your support and understanding and caring is a huge part of my AF life. (and even when I have fallen, you give me hope)

            AF Daily Wednesday December 31st

Happy New Year to everyone in AF-Land!!! Especially to our friends in Australia and New Zealand and any other countries who have already rung it in! It's great to read about everyone's plans for an AF New Year and also all the wonderful optimism for 2009. Count me in for those!!

I was up and at 'em early again today starting with a quick cup of coffee then the daily Curves workout. Got tiffed up a bit (well, if cords and a sweater is tiffed - but it DID include makeup so for me that alone makes it tiffed!). Went out and knocked off my 10 cold calls for the day. In the old days I would have made an excuse that today "is a holiday" when it's not. Just because some businesses are closed, or will close at noon - it's not a holiday for people like me and Mr. Doggy trying to keep our business going during these tough economic times. And I'm so glad I went because DING DING DING we got one new customer today! Or at least an appointment for Mr. Doggy to go out and assess the situation. I think the universe made it happen that way to teach me a lesson about my own tendency for laziness LOL!!!!

My powdered egg whites got here too which was an impossible ingredient to find locally, but needed for my next kitchen experiment - low carb stuffing to go with the turkey tomorrow. The stuffing recipe comes with it's own "faux bread" recipe. So that went "right" today too! We're having salmon ala Doodlebug for dinner tonight (Doodlebug - hope you're OK out there!). Turkey n trimmin's tomorrow.

I too am looking forward to the parades tomorrow morning while puttering in the kitchen! Which brings me to....

I am going over to a friend's house; she is a minimal drinker, her husband is out of town, and it will just be me, my friend, and her elderly father, and her wonderful daughter. ... he is a retired judge. Fondue and board games are on the agenda.

Wow.... Now that I am writing it down, it occurs to me that, in some ways, describing plans for an AF evening sounds rather like describing an evening in an old folks' home, doesn't it?
Ummm....I think that sounds like wonderful fun so I guess I've got my OGP (Old Geezer Pants) on too!!! Have fun WIP!! I bet the judge has some stories....

Mary - I think it will be a LOT of fun if a whole bunch of us are here again next year celebrating our first (or second or more) FULL year sober. That'll be so cool! Happy as clams in our OGP!!!!

Well - I gotta run for now. I hope to be back later to catch up more. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

DG: I can only do it if I stay close to MWO this year. I won't let anything stand in the way. I know today will be AF, because my daughter, SIL, & 2 g-sons will be coming along to pick us up for Chinese food & a movie (The Tale of Despereaux). If I don't get back here before the new year: Happy New Year MWO friends. I'll see you next year. Mary

Det - recipes please!!! That menu sounds drop dead gorgious!
LVT - I'm with you about the girlfriends. That's on my NY resolution list as well.
My experimental lentil soup is on the boil and just about needs seasoning. I did my party shopping today, including some new AF drinks to experiment with on Friday. I love planning and preparing dinner parties!
Need to run but wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year and thanks for being here!

rags: I sure will. The g-sons are 3 & 5. We saw the coming attractions. I think there's a message as well as a very cute animated protagonist (Despereaux). Mary

                          AF Daily Wednesday December 31st

                          Hello all,

A hard day's shopping! I've got a friend from out of town staying with me last night and tonight, and she wanted to hit the sales. We're off out shortly to pick up some other friends, maybe the pub, then down to the river (Thames) to watch the fireworks.
I'm feeling very strong about being AF (without Antabuse too! Don't need it tonight, I'm gonna be FINE). I'd take a thermos flask of tea if I had a flask - it's soooo cold out there., it's gonna be brrrrrrrr down at the river.

I'd love to put my Old Geezer Pants on and watch Elton John's live New Year concert on TV instead - maybe next year :H

Less than four hours to go, better get a wiggle on. See you all next year!

Am settling down now for an AF new years eve

I love the new year - I always look on it positively and look forward to the future, I've also spent some time looking back and reflecting on the year just gone.

                            I've done my resolutions

I've got my AF drinks chilled and ready to go...

I probably won't be on line now until tomorrow, but just wanted to wish all my MWO friends a very happy 2009 and thanks again for all your support. I've achieved a lot this year and I wouldn't have done it without you all. Let's hope 2009 will be totally AF.

Have a happy safe new year everyone and see you all next year

Hi All: We just got back from movies & Chinese food w/the kids & g-kids. Great, great, sober fun! "The Tale of Despereaux" was wonderful, though there were some pretty intense parts. Our 3 & 5 year old g-sons loved it. Mary
