    January (new year) abbercisers!!

sweaty betty - lmao!! What wouldn't I give to be younger and more flexible!!

Is great to see lots of people on this thread ....... I really dont think I could stay AF if I wasn't focussing on getting myself healthy in body as well as spirit. It remains a struggle, but having some goals to work on helps me.

And I am so impressed with people keeping it up in the middle of winter!! It is easy for me to keep up exercise while we have summer and it is nice weather outside at present so I am walking and biking lots.

Did my 2.8km swim race yesterday ...... was really hard!! Very windy which made the sea very choppy. I felt like I was swimming into the waves and against the current all the way. There were 2 guys from the Australian Olympic swim squad competing (they got first and second!!) and they said it was a really hard race so I feel justfied in saying that it was the hardest (and slowest!) swim of my life! But it was a good chance to have a long think about the similarities between the swim and the AF life I am trying to create ... the waves keep coming, and they do so at irregular intervals, but as long as I keep turning my arms and going with the flow I'll get there in the end.

And I was so inspired by 3 people who also did the race ....... 2 women aged 62 and 67 and a guy aged 79!!!! I want to be doing this for the next 25 years!!

      January (new year) abbercisers!!

      Hello all,

I've had a busy couple of days at work and haven't had time to go to the gym (honest!) but I did cycle to work yesterday (10 miles in total, there and back) so I haven't been a complete slug.

Momof3 - bootcamp sounds great but, like the others, I couldn't do it that early in the morning. Makes me want to look into going to classes of some sort at the gym to get that group motivation thing going.

Mame - congrats on the swim! It sounds tough. I agree about working on a healthy body being a huge help in staying AF. Exercise has become very important to me now, having never been my "thing" at all.

        January (new year) abbercisers!!

        Hi all

Been swimming this am - about 40 lengths - feel much better for it.

Overheard two ladies (in their 60's) talking in the changing rooms, about how they both preferred to exercise first thing in the day - then "the rest of the day is your own" . I must admit, from perference I would like to do this too - I think you are more motivated in a morning, however in recent years because of school / work, I have usually had to exercise in the evenings - sometimes it is nice to exercise at night though becuase it lets you unwind from a stressful day.

Since having young children I've found it much harder to exercise at all - you just have to see a window of opportunity and go for it. I really admire anyone with young children who manages to get out and exercise. A friend of mine who is a real exercise fanatic - runs / exericses a minimum of 5 x a week, has just had her first baby a couple of weeks back and says it won't interefere with her exercise routine!?!?!?. I'm really interested to see how she manages !!

For me though (and i guess for many others) exercise goes hand in hand with recovery from an alcohol addiction and it really helps.

Have a great AF week everybody!

Aunty Mame, am so impressed witha sea swim! Am trying really hard to get to grips with freestyle. Us pommies are taught to swim in a really odd style. However, the lovely Derek, my swimming teacher in Singapore tells me I'm very 'buoyant' and its true! I try and snorkel and pop up like a cork. Must be something to do with body fat percentages........

theres something to be said for buoyancy Betty. I'm so un-buoyant that I end up sucking in a lot of sea water in my snorkel when I skin-dive. aaaaaagh!

Aunty M, thats a wonderful accomplishment, and swimming is something you should be able to do for your entire life.

                January (new year) abbercisers!!

Hello again all! I've been abbercising but not taking time to post about it. I am in the process of adding yoga to my Curves routine. I've taken a couple of yoga classes (and plan to continue that for the time being) and also got a DVD called "Yoga for Inflexible People" (yep, that's me!) for some homework.

I was doing Curves 6X per week most of the time (5 at the least). Last week I did Curves 5X and the week before that, 4X Curves and 2X Yoga classes.

This week my goal is 5X Curves and 2X Yoga classes. We'll see how far I get with the DVD at home.

Have a great day everyone!! :b&d::sofa:

Well, the scales at the gym say I've lost 0.1kg in a week. That makes all the effort soooo worth it :H

I'm still recovering after my ''beginners'' yoga class! But oldest boy has said that he'll come along with me if I want to start a beginners running programme. He's being so lovely at the minute, I wonder what he's up to??

Greetings everyone. Had a nice easy run, then a long, slow swim in the sea, waves crashing around, and enjoying just going with the flow of the ocean. Great meditation time, a long swim. DG. Yoga for inflexible people? That's me, and something i will try! Safe travel's all.

Tonight was tough - i've had lots of dodgy thoughts about moderating this last 36hrs or so, which I know is very dangerous. Anyway - I went out swimming and did 40 lengths during my witching hour and I feel a little better but I know mentally i've a lot of difficult work cut out for the next few days to change my mind set! Exercise will help!
