Hi Abbercisers! Mo I believe it was you who mentioned on the daily thread that it's much easier to exercise sans hangover. ITA that!! I would also submit that it's easier to stay hangover free with exercise! What a beautiful thing!
Wow everyone is rockin' it here. I'm like a li'l ol' lady! But that's OK. I'm getting younger every day. Won't be long before I can catch up with you young whipper snappers.
I got out the AM/PM yoga DVD yesterday and tried out two different 15 minute "AM" sessions. They were both good. The excerpt from the Dalai Lama's speech on Finding Peace was good too. I did Curves + bonus bootcamp on Saturday - don't think I posted that either.
Today was Curves + bonus bootcamp for the new week AND yoga class. My knees are feeling it - I really have to watch what we're asked to do in bonus bootcamp because some of that is hard on the old knees. But I survived! My goal for this week is a minimum of 4 Curves and 4 yogas. Unless something goes WAY amiss with my schedule, I should actually get in 5 Curves and maybe 5 yogas too. I'm really liking the yoga addition and I want to try one or two of the PM sessions this week from the DVD and see what those are about.
I like the yoga teacher on Monday's. She's the one who has the bowls that make a ringing sound that she uses at the end for meditation. I love the sound they make. Last week she only had one bowl with her but this week she had two. What a rich and captivating sound! Helps quiet my busy mind for sure.
:b&d::sofa: (not that anyone needs a whippin' around here these days!!!)

Hey Doggygirl. I have been thinking about trying Yoga. I am incredibly inflexible (and I don't just mean my attitude). I need to stretch out my back and legs better. I kind of would like to get back into jogging or at least serious hiking.
Is Yoga something you can learn on your own? or do you have to do classes first?
Mo.

For myself, I find some benefit in both. While I don't really feel right interrupting the class with my questions, the instructors have been VERY good about being available after class for questions. Learning in an interactive environment has it's plusses. There is lots that happens in class and even on the DVD's that is very subtle, so easy to not really know if you are doing it right.
What I like about the DVD's at home is that I am not limited to a specific class schedule, and the DVD's I bought show quite a bit more about how to modify the positions including the use of blocks, blankets, a yoga strap and in the case of one video, even using a chair to help with balance.
What I am trying to do first and foremost (and the teachers live AND video emphasize this) is not to push anything too much.
The DVD Yoga for Inflexible People has a look and feel to it that is old fashioned. It might even be set to 70's porn muzak. And sometimes the teacher is talking about doing a really really subtle thing that you cannot possible tell for sure what she means - certainly not by looking at the model who is demonstrating the stuff. But I really like the detail that is good for inflexible people. And I try my best with the explanations. Sometimes it makes sense on down the road.
As I mentioned in yesterday's Daily thread, the AM/PM DVD seems a bit more modern, and was filmed at Hula's house. While some modifications are demonstrated, I found myself using the bigger modifications for really really inflexible people fromt he other DVD in some of the poses.
So...in my own very long way of saying things, :eeks: I am getting positive things from both sources.
As long as we're on the subject, I would be interested in any BEGINNER level yoga DVD's that anyone else might recommend.

i learned yoga strictly from dvd's (well, vhs when i started!) and from friends. i love the gaiam company's dvd's..and i like that i can set the "mood" for myself and do it anytime (i rarely use a dvd anymore). i like yoga right before bed.
i reccommend it for anyone, especially "inflexible" folks because the whole idea is to breathe into the poses and eventually your body will be more able to do the poses. it's fun to feel the progression!
i did do the 80 minute class, it equals about 30 miles of riding!
feels good to be sober!
now if i would just lose the weight, i'd be feeling really good!

Hi guys,
I'm on a roll...three days in a row! Sunday, nine miles on the mountain bike on a soft trail but a beautiful spring-like day. Today after work, thirty minutes on the gym bike while watching the evening news; no fun, but I worked-up a sweat!
Off the couch since Feb. 7, 2009 :H

Back at the gym after a 3 day break. My legs are killing me, I have a pinched nerve in the right thigh and just general ache like growing pains. I think I may have over done it last week at the gym. I did pump today but I lowered my legs weights and concentrated on my upper body.
