    February 09 Abbercisers!

    Happy Saturday All,

Well I did get that 11 mile run in today. My back was feeling strong and I was feeling energized. So, I went for it.

Legs are still really tight though so would appreciate any advice on stretching or yoga DVDs.

      good job mo3!!!

a simple standing forward bend might help, but if it hurts yiur back at all, stop!
just stand with your legs together and bend, this is important, at the hips keeping your back straight. reach as far down as you can comfortably. if you can rest in that position let your arms hang. when you come up use your hands to "walk" up your legs.

i'm off to treadmill for an hour...

Hi to all and M3, congrats on that 11 mile run! I am NOT NOT NOT a yoga expert - just getting started myself. The 2 DVD's I bought recently are Yoga for Inflexible People and AM/PM Yoga for Beginners. The Yoga for Inflexible People has rather old fashioned sounding music (almost like 70's porn muzak or something!!) and an "older" look to it but for where I'm at, I feel I am getting the most out of that one for right now. The AM/PM is nice too and is in a beautiful setting - hula's beach I think. The nice thing about scoping these on Amazon is all the reviews available to read.

Also, I think it was LVT who mentioned that Netflix has yoga DVD's!!! So if you already have a Netflix subscription that might be a good way to explore some options. I haven't checked out the You Tube clips yet but I bet there are tons. I really do believe it's helping me.

A side note from the Daily thread - I am SO GLAD to hear that work is picking up bit for you! I bet you are so relieved. February started out turtle slow for us, but last week was gangbusters. So it's coming and going and the slow days are scary, but at least for now there are some offsetting good days. I will be glad when the economy starts improving.

OK - back to :b&d::sofa: I planned on my yoga class yesterday but the teacher was sick, so no class. It was a busy day so I ended up with an unexpected day off. (Sunday is usually my day off) I worked out at Curves today, so that completes 5 of those for the week and I need to do a yoga session at home later today which will then be 4 yoga sessions for the week. I still haven't done any of the "PM" yoga sessions at hula's house so today will be perfect to check that out. Then I will probably do some light yoga - maybe just the breathing exercises tomorrow morning. Breathing sounds easy until you try to time it right with all the other movements LOL!

        Kick ass! Take names! :b&d::sofa:

          Hi abbers,

My 2x20 on the treadmill. I have added some b vits and supps. to my program. Ran into a friend at the grocery store and we've started making plans to ride on the bike trail this spring as soon as it's warm enough. Something to look forward to.
Have a good week end all.

Hiya Abber's! Off for a relaxed sunday run soon. I also find if i'm ever 'time poor', that running to get some light shopping done, or to a friends' or work etc. anywhere really where i might usually drive, get's that exercise in. Have a great weekend all....................G.

Mom/3--I'd agree a forward bend is a great stretch. Also "down dog" stretches the calves and hamstrings. Actually the whole series in sun salutations would help!

This is just one example--there are several modifications. The more times you do this, the more flexible you become.

                  Happy Sunday All,

Today is a day of rest...no exercise on Sundays for me. But, I will do some stretching.

Peace, LV...Thanks for the recommendations on the stretches and the downward Dog. I will check out the You Tube link.

DG...Thanks for the DVD recommendations and the Netflix idea. I do subscribe to Netflix and I honestly never thought about looking for Yoga DVDs there. And yes, I am happy that work has picked up, at least for now. I spent most of yesterday working after my run...felt compelled to make some money since the cash flow has been tight.

DG...I know that you are very strict in your diet...no sugar, no gluten, etc. Would you mind sharing your rationale behind this, especially the gluten free diet...what compelled you to go this route?

                  Be Well,
                  M3

Also, I am reading Suzanne Somers, "Ageless." I'm putting together alot of questions to ask my MD when I see her in March. Even though I lead a very healthy and active lifestyle, I just don't feel 100%.

A sign at my gym today says:
"We apologise for the strong smell throughout the club.
This is due to a new floor being laid."

:H It's better than some of the usual smells in there.

                        Right, stats!
                        30 mins crosstrainer
                        10 mins rowing machine
                        resistance weights routine
                        20 mins swimming

Feeling very good now. I do love my smelly old gym!

Peace - spill!! I ALWAYS want to hear a funny story.

The worst smell at my gym (apart from the floor glue) comes from the people who seem to have eaten a ton of garlic the night before and sweat it all out on the machine right next me. :yuk:

M3, If you stop eating gluten for a couple of weeks, then add it back in, you can see how you feel. Also, we tend to crave what is problematic - one cookie or one piece of bread is never enough. (sound familiar??) I've never been tested formally to see if I am allergic, but when I leave wheat and other grains and sugar out of the picture, the absence of heart burn, indigestion and bloat is VERY noticeable. I've come across some interesting recipes for alternatives to biscuits / muffins (using nut flours and/or flax seed meal) and pizza crust (using eggs and cheese, so not for the dairy sensitive) so I really don't miss bread any more. I can get a "fix" without the grains.

I blew off yoga yesterday which I'm not too happy about. I think I need to get everything done that I want to do by Saturday, so I can preserve Sunday as my day off. So I did 5 Curves last week but only 3 yoga - one short of my goal.

Today starts a fresh week! I did Curves + Boot Camp extras and then yoga class. I'm really starting to love the new Monday teacher. At the end of class for meditation she brings her bowls which make the most beautiful ringing / musical sounds. Makes it easy to fully relax and quiet my mind. I didn't want to leave!!

So...the week is off to a good start. Tomorrow I am planning to do Curves + bootcamp and something yoga wise at home.

                                Hi everyone,

I haven't lived up to my expectations, but at least I'm doing more than before. Five good gym-bike rides in the last nine days. I've arranged my schedule to start my PM work-out before dark and, of course, the daylight is getting longer around here.

Robet Holden, Happiness Now! author, writes "If you're too busy to be happy, you're too busy!"

I would add "If you're too busy to be healthy, you're too busy!" :H
