    February 09 Abbercisers!

Hi All, tried another yoga class today. Instructor was lovely, helped adjust poses etc. I'm not being consistent with anything else though, I think I was cranky yesterday because I didn't exercise at the weekend. I need to get my big girl pants on, bite the bullet and join the gym.

Here's a thumbs up to Big Girl Pants!! Hey SB - already Day 9!! I hope the time is passing for you as quickly as the last 9 days seem to have passed for me!

T3.1 - love the happiness AND healthiness quotes. I just told the sordid story in the Daily Thread of getting a ticket this morning so I won't repeat (and bore!) with the details here. Just suffice it to say that right now I'M TOO DAMN MAD TO BE HAPPY!!!! :b&d:

Oh Peace - I want to hear the sweaty gym stench story too. Marshy, I didn't know Deter worked out at your gym!!! :wow: We need a Garlic Smiley just for Deter.

I did 45 minutes of yoga this morning from the DVD. This was the "energizing" one from the yoga for inflexible, intolerant and mad people DVD. Oh wait - it's just for inflexible people.

I then did my other Tuesday usual agenda, then went to Curves and really pushed a hard workout AND another boot camp. Then I went and got my groceries and my ticket. Oops there I go on again about that ticket.

I'm so glad to be sober. Can you imagine what my ranting would be like if I was drunk? Could you imagine what my ticket would be like had I been drinking?

Have a good day abbercisers! :b&d::sofa:

          Happy Tuesday All,

Lots of different types of exercising going on here with a strong yoga theme!

Kudos to all of you for keeping up with the exercise.

DG, I'm sorry about the ticket...read about it on the other thread. That stinks (in a different way than a smelly gym).

Bootcamp this morning...lots of sprinting, pushups, upper body work. It is my hour of power for sure. I'm about 10 - 15 years older than most of the folks out there. But, I do my best to keep up with them.

          Be well,

OK folks, I need a little pep talk. I actually walked into a gym today. I've been thinking about it for the past 6 months, so we're talking progress, here. The problem is, I'm absolutely petrified. A nice young man walked me through their facilities, but the gym is not very big. The machines are all next to each other and were full of trim guys showing off their muscles (I wanted to run right out the door). They have exercise classes but not at different levels so I'd have to tell the instructor I'm a couch potato (I wanted to run right out the door). People in nice gym outfits kept passing us and reminding me that I'd wear a tent (yep, that door, again). Why can't they have gyms for fat female couch potatoes??!! This one is the closest locally, but I could investigate a bigger gym in town. Or I could focus on chocolate chip cookies and decide that exercise is for younger girls. Or I could try to persuade myself that nobody will pay attention to me in a tent. (HA!) Heeelp!!

Pamina - yeah, I've been in gyms like that too. Not my thing at all. It's important to find one you feel comfortable in.

My gym has a wide range of ages, shapes, abilities. There are plenty of classes for beginners. Most people wear "normal" T-shirts, sweatpants etc, not smart gym gear. It's got a nice atmosphere (I think, anyway). It's close to Oxford St/Russell Sq if that's any good to you? You are in London, aren't you? PM me if you want details.

Thank you all for responding kindly to my ticket whining!

M3 - I bet you are not only keeping up but SHOWING those young whipper snappers a thing or two!!!

Peace - have fun walking the dogs. That actually sounds like a peaceful thing I should consider engaging in before the day is out! (or maybe some PM yoga.)

                Anyway..

Pamina, I agree with Marshy that it's really important to find a gym where you feel comfortable. Distance / convenience matters too - I hope you can see what else is available and find something that is within your limits for both!

Is there a Curves or Woman's Workout World or any one of those anywhere near you? It's more limited in some ways than a gym since they don't have scads of optional equipment and various classes, etc. BUT...I love the fact that there are only women and it's definitely all shapes and sizes of women. I've yet to see anyone in a cutesy gym outfit either. Something like that might be worth considering if nearby - it would probably address the main concerns you mentioned, and that I can certainly relate to. The "gym atmosphere" intimidated me as well which is probably why I've wasted gym memberships before, but I've been able to stick with Curves. If that's not appealing due to the more limited nature of the workout options, then definitely consider what Marcy suggested and check out gyms until you find one where people are at least dressed in normal clothes and there are a variety of shapes and sizes to make you feel comfortable!!

Cookie Curls, sadly, are not actual exercise. (:upset

                    Hi abbercisers!

Two thirty minute bike rides in two days; The bike computer estimates calories, so I push pretty hard for a new "high score" every ride. I know it's not spectacular, but at least I'm creating a new routine with healthier habits. I hope to start strength training again pretty soon.

Did I read there's an exercise tracker around here, like the drink tracker?

i use "my food diary" tom...it costs 9$ a month, but you input all your info and it figures out your burn and calories per day etc...

i'm going to a spin class and might jump on the treadmill tonight before i go...gotta get out of this rut!

Hi Tom, you're doing more than me! I did another yoga class yesterday and loved it, again a good instructor. I could go to a class every day, but am having a bit of a mental battle about whether I am replacing one addiction with another? But the action of simply getting out of the house and getting to class makes me feel so much better about myself it might be a worthwhile risk. Still haven't joined a gym, makes me stressed thinking about it - so maybe not the right thing to do?. Have a good Thursday. B.x

ANOTHER yoga class today. Different instructor, different style, but still good. Have been lucky enough to be the only one in class the past couple of times, so have had lots of advice on form, and today she did a lot of 'hands on', easing me into poses etc. Have also signed on for a 5k in may, so am off to look up a 'couch to 5k' plan. Have a great weekend. B.x

Peacenik, good for you getting in a good workout before your trip! HAVE FUN!!

Iad, this :b&d::sofa: is for you!

Tom3.1 - that's what upgrading your Exercise Version is all about - developing new and better habits. And you are doin' it!

Sweaty Betty, I would not worry at ALL about getting addicted to yoga! So what if you do!! It sounds like you are really enjoying it, and that's how exercise SHOULD be. I can't count the number of gym memberships I've wasted because I just wasn't into it. Do what you ENJOY doing that keeps you active and keeps you comin' back. At least that's my 3 cents on the matter!

I am one yoga session short of goal for the week. I went to Curves and then to an AA meeting today instead of the yoga class. I really like the Monday yoga instructor better so I decided to save that pre-paid session for Monday and go to Curves then AA today. I feel good about that choice! I still want to get in another yoga session before my day off on Sunday, so I will do some AM yoga tomorrow at home. Then probably also do Curves to finish off the week.

So through today, for the week I'm at 5 Curves, 3 bootcamp extras at Curves, and 3 yoga sessions (one class, two at home). I feel good. Mr. Evil Scale is getting back in line too. I'm determined to stay within my goal range of 145 to 150 and not let it get any higher than that. I don't want to have to loose this weight ever again! I was flirting way to heavily with 150 but now I'm back under that every day this week. Life is good. Size 8 pants are good. Muscles are good.

                                :b&d: Happy Abbercisin' everyone!
