    February 09 Abbercisers!

    Hi all

Been away on holiday for a week - not too far, out on my bike with the kids, also done some swimming, 10 pin bowling! walking - no formal exercise, but generally kept busy and out in the fresh air and most important of all - not had a drink!!! This was a major achievement for me as I drank on my last holiday in October 08 and only months ago could not see how I could get through a holiday without drinking.

I'll be back to my normal exercise routine from now on, will weigh myself in the morning - hope I haven't put on any weight whilst away - my clothes don't feel any tighter but I did eat out quite a bit, so you never know!!!

    will drop by again later

      Hi all,

Sweaty B - very funny that you were umming and ahhing about yoga classes and now you've suddenly signed up for a 5k!!! Good for you!

DG - I'm refusing to let my brain convert your weight in lbs into stone (my weight "language"). I strongly suspect you're lighter than me, and I know you're taller... so that would make me... a short podge! No brain, stop it, stop it, do not convert!

I've just cycled home from work. My bike has been languishing there for a couple of weeks... snow...too cold...excuses. I got home about 11pm. It's still a strange novelty for me to be out at that time on a Friday night and be sober. Sad but true. I have to be at work early tomorrow but it takes about half the time to cycle that it takes on the bus, so at least I get an extra 30 mins in bed if I cycle. Ah, the many benefits of exercise

Sausage, elcome back and congrats on having got through the holiday without a drink! Now you can put that demon that has been sitting on your shoulder to rest!!

I have been super-good with the exercise regime this week ...... partly because I'm back on the wagon after a few weeks off it and I know that one of the things that keeps me on the straight and narrow is doing lots of exercise. So have done lots of swimming and biking. I love the swimming, but am particularly pleased withe the biking as I got knocked off a couple of years ago when a 4X drive tried to whip into a parking space that the driver had just spotted (but hadn't noticed me). So it has taken me a lot of time to build up my confidence again. Over the last week I have been much braver about being in traffic and I'm really noticing how much it is affecting my self esteem on all sorts of levels. I've also been trying the odd hill - a bit hard to avoid them in this city, but it stops me from cycling to work on a regular basis as the "come home" route is about 5km steep climb (or I can go the long route and do a 23km slow climb!!). Anyway, thought I might give it a go tomorrow and see what proportion I can cycle and how much I have to walk!! :H:H Maybe that could be my goal for March ....... to be able to cycle all the way home!

          February 09 Abbercisers!

Been swimming this morning - back after my holidays to my old routine - did 40 lengths - feels like i've never been away - oh and by the way, didn't put on any weight still the same as I was when I went away 143.5lbs (i'm 5ft 7") - back in the summer before i quit alcohol I was 161 lbs (and still 5 ft 7" !!!). The other day I found some work out cards from the gym I used to attend in my mid 20's (i'm now 37)and it was really interesting because several body fat %'s and weights were recorded (no idea of my body fat at the moment) back in my 20's my weight was around 133lbs so I still have another 10lbs to lose to reach my gold standard weight, but to be honest i'd be happy with just losing another 5lbs or so. A lot of people are saying to me "you dont' need to lose any more". I don't want to get obsessed.

Sausage, I bet it feels good to be back into the old routine! It sounds to me like you are doing an awesome job in the weight management department! I don't even think about trying to achieve the weight I was way back when......

Mame that sounds really scary getting knocked off your bike by a vehicle!! I can't even imagine how hard it must be mentally to "get back on the horse" so to speak. Good for you!!!!

Marshy - wow - you and Mame both working on cycling to and from work! Can I ask a rather delicate question??? When you cycle to work, do you work up a sweat? What are your tips for "freshen up" after that? I often want to work out before I go to a business meeting but am a little concerned that I don't have the best possible techniques for a good fresh up if you know what I mean.

              (sorry guys)

Today is my day off and I'm takin' it! I thought about doing some yoga this morning but there is something about "Sunday Off From Exercise" that I feel I need to respect. My tendency is to jump into things TOO deep and then give up all together. I've done so well with Curves thus far and I don't want to take a step back. So I'm working on getting OK mentally with "baby steps" in my yoga. And whatever routine I finally settle into with yoga, I still think I will do best with honoring one day a week off.

In the fit of my clothes I believe I am starting to see confirmation of a those couple pounds of suspected fat loss, even though the scale has been tipping to the high end of my goal range. I'm not looking to lose any more pounds beyond just getting back to the middle of goal range, but if I'm losing a little fat and gaining a little muscle in the mean time, that's OK by me. I want to wear SHORTS this summer!!! WHEE!!!

Have a good abbercizin' day everyone!

Oh IAD - I love that cat!!!

Sausage, not going to translate your lbs into kgs as I know I will get depressed! My weight is proving very hard to shift despite all the exercise and eating really healthily (well, okay, we did have chocolate ice-cream last night ........:H). Anyway, I due to go back tot eh GP for some blood tests next week, so will get all the thyroid stuff checked out, as well as hormones, and hope there is a magic solution in there somewhere for me!

Have tackled the bike with a vengeance over the last 2 days - 34 kms yesterday (and into a head wind, so I figure that is as good as doing hills!!) and another 20 this morning on my way to work! I keep waiting for my thighs to shrink, but they are just getting harder .......:H

DG - I definitely work up a sweat when I cycle to work!!! But the freshen up for me is really easy as my work is about 3 mins walk from the gym. So I cycle in, shower at the gym, and then head to work (oh, and my faithful Uncle Mame brings my work papers and my packed lunch in for me ........ never quite sure what I did to deserve that man :happyheart And the vast majority of workplaces here have shower facilities. I can completely understand not wanting to go to a business meeting after exercise ........ but I not infrequently go afterwards to blow off some steam!!!

Also, dont think of Sunday as a "day off" but rather as a "rest day" ...... which are as important to our fitness as the exercise itself. If I dont have a day off a week I end up being very sluggish in my exercise the week afterward and usually show no signs of improvement.

                  Hi All

Did a 40 min fast walk (no dogs) on Saturday, and did a 'fatburning' Yoga DVD yesterday. I didn't see how the DVD could be fatburning - but my legs are so sore today! Have had a very very lazy day (Monday). Indulged in the Oscars and not much else. I have to go and do 'the illusion of tidy' before the menfolk are on to me........later. B.

DG - there are showers at work. A bit grungy but useful. Although, I've had TWO towels nicked from the hook where I left them to dry out. Who would steal a wet towel??
But if you're working out at the gym before your meetings can't you shower there?

Not working today so off to the gym later.

Ok guys, get the whip out!! It's time to get into a routine for me! Had company and so much stuff going on that I've fallen off the exercise wagon!!!! It makes no sense to be AF and NF and not get physically fit too! When I had the wrestling match with the calf a few days ago, I thought my lungs were going to explode!! I've got to do some serious cardio. BUT, I know I need to start out easy. For now, I will include some form of exercise in my daily routine. I will go to the fitness center every day I'm in town during the week. I will quit eating all the cookies and chocolates and peanut m & m's :upset: that have become my necessary evil. I will eat more fruits and veggies and whole grains.
I ordered a new yoga dvd by Sadie Nardini who I saw on YouTube. I will add a few days of yoga at home into my routine also.
There, it's in writing. I guess I better print this and stick it to my mirror!

Thanks in advance for cracking the whip--I know you will! :H

P.S. Sausage-I've been meaning to tell you how great it is you didn't drink on your recent holiday!! Good job!:h

LVT - Well done on putting down a plan! I did Yoga this morning a 1.5 hour class, Neuro, a fellow MWO member introduced me to this teacher and she's lovely. Our rain is back so I haven't managed to start on my couch to 5k yet - but has to happen this week!

                        Happy Tuesday

Marshy - showers at work explains it. But grungy ones??? Ewww. I'm glad I work from home where the showers are clean, and no thanks to me I might add. (Cleaning help was my gift to myself after quitting smoking!!)

LVT - good for you getting it in writing. Let me know how you like the DVD you bought.

Sweaty B - 1.5 HOUR yoga class??? Holy Moly.

So far this week for me:

                              Monday - Curves, Yoga Class
Tuesday - Curves + Boot Camp Extras. Those are getting much easier so I know they are working!

Tomorrow's plan is for Yoga at home and Curves. I've got a tight schedule so we'll see if I can squish the boot camp in.
