AFM...I hope your visit goes well.

LVT...Take it easy on us men. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it.

DG...I hope your dinner goes well.

I am having BBQ'd tenderloin (smothered in onions, mushrooms, and garlic), shrimp skewers, and twice baked potatoes. I can't understand why I am not losing weight. :H

Oh yes, and I am hangover free today. I even got my workout in early this morning.

    Have a good day all.

    :goodjob:

Morning abbers (probably afternoon for you all by now!)

A4M - glad you are visiting your dad. I had 18 months of a very close relationship with my dad after 35 years of a very tetchy one (fault on both sides). When he died I really cherished that last 18 months (and still do!)

DG - hope the ham goes well .... Uncle Mame does that job n this house so I am of no use whatsoever, but he reckons that it is impossible to wreck a ham as long a the temperature stays low.

We are starting to see the change of seasons here, and I guess everyone else is too? I have a few things to do in the garden to prepare for winter, and will have to make the annual crop of gree tomato chutney with the last ones that dont ripen! I was thinking yesterday that this is also going to present me with some new non-drinking challenges ...... like yesterday after having exhausted myself exercising I came home and had a long hot bath and then lay down on the couch to read a book. The weather outside had turned really bad and I felt really cozy ..... and I really really wanted a bottle of wine to go with it. We went out for ice-cream and chocolate instead, but I really dont want to be doing eating lots of crap either!!

I have a plan for dealing with this, which is finishing a text book that I had started last year with a colleague, but which got postponed for a whole lot of reasons. We now have a final deadline of December 18, so I have a winter of writing ahead of me .... so my next challenge is to get my head into a space for doing this! As today is 1 March, I will start by organising my desk!!! But getting my brain cells back into some semblance of being able to think clearly again is one of the most important motivators for me to stay AF.

AFM I understand about parents who don't communicate well. I was in my early 20s when my mother was in the hospital with lung & liver cancer and she didn't want my brother and I to now (denial at an extreme). Friends of the familiy finally convinced my parents to call. I flew in and she died about 5-7 days later. I still shake my head over that one.

Dad remarried and his wife was very good about making him call me about medical news. Maybe you can have a woman-to-woman chat with her and get some help from her for future news. Have a nice visit.

LVT - my husband forgets to tell me things too. He often leaves for a bike ride without leaving a note as to when he left and where he's going. He's often not in cell territory. I use to really fuss about it and rant about how was I going to look for him in a ditch if I didn't even know what county he was in. In the morning if I think he'll start a ride before I get home, I say "please leave me a note as to when you leave and the general route you're going to take." If he forgets, I don't rant and just say "you forgot to leave me a note today....15 years later he still needs reminded. LOL

Last night -- I really had a strong desire to drink a couple Lite Beers sitting in the basement fridge. Hubby wanted to rent a movie or go to one. I agreed to either. I felt like doing something. It was Friday, I wanted to go out, but movies are not my thing. I secertly hoped for dinner out, but we're both watching calorie intake. We ended up picking up a rental and coming home.

In the 'old days' I would have easily had 1-2 beers as soon as I got home and probably 1-2 watching a movie at home. I didn't even eat popcorn. I was feeling kinda sorry for myself at first but the movie was worth watching and I went to bed AF! It was a big night. I was busy this morning and hadn't reflected on it until now.

I feel really good about this. No impulse behavior. I was able to bypass my old Friday behavior.

A round of hugs to this thread!

                Hello all,

Oof. Couple of long, busy days at work. Today I ran into a guy who I used to work with who I haven't seen for about three years. I hate to blow my own trumpet - ahem :blushing: - but he was full of compliments about my "new look" - weight loss, no booze face (well, he doesn't know that!). Makes me wonder just how awful I was looking before! Anyway, we're going to go for a drink next week and I might tell him WHY I'm looking better.

So, forget all the other benefits - better health, finances, relationships etc etc - I'm staying sober for the compliments :H :H

                We're lookin' good, people! :bigwink:

Looking good indeed Marshy! Have had those comments too, and it does appeal greatly to my little ego! Gives extra fuel for the fight. Just a quick catch up here. Off to a rockin' outdoor street party/music festival. Yay! Hello Gran. Take care all........G.

                      Evening people,

Jeez, what a long day, hence the short post. My boss is such a challenge. Sober people need challenges, right? I take it all less personally now, but I still have a ways to go in speaking my mind or being myself in his presence. I want to be me. At all times.

Anyway, I was the only person with an orange juice in the pub after the end of training. When I got home, one of the many second hand books I've ordered thru Amazon had arrived. The Courage to Change. Curling up with it under the duvet forthwith.

I am a coffee junky! I especially love starbucks!

Although, here, we have Tim Hortons and their coffee is pretty darn good as well.

Give me a coffee bean to chew on, any day! :H

Someday I would like to try an expresso. I have yet to try one.
