    March 09 Abbercisers

    :welcome:

It's March 1st everyone, and welcome to the new month abberciser's thread.

I've kicked off this month with a good 30 minute swim at the pool at 7.30am this Sunday morning and I'm feeling good.

Look forward to hearing what you are all up to

Thanks for getting us started Sausage!

I know what you mean about not counting the lengths and just wanting to turn off ........ it is the thing that I enjoy most about swimming! When I'm at the gym I listen to my i-pod and when I cycle I am super-cautious about the traffic .... with swimming one of the greatest pleasures is to just getinto the flow and go with it!

Well I took my courage in my hands today and cycled to work the short way - steep and lots of traffic. Went really early in the morning so that I could avoid the worst of the traffic ..... took me exactly 14 minutes and 21secs door-to-door!! So not a great effort in terms of exercise (it is down-hill all the way!!) but good in terms of doing something I have put off doing for about 2 years!

I was looking back on my exercise diary last night and feel like I have made great improvements in the last month .... will be harder to keep up as we go into winter, but I am starting to formulate my plan for that!!

        nicely done everyone!

been at my new Muay Thai class for 5 weeks now and can see some nice changes in my leg and trunk muscles, as well as some increased flexibility. Kickboxing will kick you into shape!

Hey Peace well done! I have a go-karting injury (a burn), so Yoga is a bit awkward, but I set up the 'My Fitness trainer' on the Wii last night and was knackered after the asessment. Still need to start the Couch to 5k, rather than just thinking about it!.Bx

                    yay betty!

way to go, you know it really isn't that far (a 5k that is) and if you take it slow and increase your mileage by only 10% a week or so, you'll do great!
you have inspired me, for sure

i am a bit under the weather which is silly becasue it is 70 degrees f and sunny as a summer day here...i'm going for an easy walk and hope tomorrow i feel up to running with you!

                    peace

Peacenik I love your avatar! :H and congrats on the weight loss and ESPECIALLY 60 DAYS SOBER!!!

If Sweaty B's Wii ever disappears look for it under my :sofa:

Sausage, thank you for getting us started for the month. Sounds like you and Mame are able to get into a "zone" with your swimming which sounds awesome. Swimming has never been my thang as I confess to being a bit afraid of the water. I like being on it or near it. But in it? Not so much.

Mame, congratulations on that bike ride to work. I know that was a very Big Deal for you to just get out there and do that!!!! :yougo:

Deter are you trying to get us girls all swoony or something with your muscle talk???? Congratulations on your results!

Angelcakes, what is Pump class? Somewhere between the cob webs in my head I think you told us before but now I can't recall. It's good to have age related CRS (Can't Remember Shit) than booze related CRS.

March started out really great for me abbercise wise. It was my day off! :H

But it was back to :b&d::sofa: yesterday with Curves + Yoga. Today was Curves + Bootcamp. They also had a "bonus" of 5 Curves Bucks if you also did 5 minutes of hula hoop. When the song "who wears short shorts" came on, I could not resist! And I did it in both directions too. Just one short year ago that would never have happened lest my head start pounding due to a hangover. Not to mention that I could barely move anything a year ago. Wow.

I slept funny last night - fell asleep watching TV and my neck was crinked up (new medical term) on two pillows. I'm feeling it today. I'm going to do some yoga later but I think I will also make a chiropracter appointment.

Tomorrows plan is for Curves + Bootcamp + What the Hell Hula Hoops. Maybe more yoga at home.

Things are on track so far for the new month! YEAH!

                        too sore

When I came off my ten day binge after AF 28 days on 3/1 I was so strung out I walked for 8 frekin hrs. just to calm down. My calves and feet are still killing me, so it will be awhile b4 I do anything. Maybe some upper weight lifting. You guys are an inspiration though. :wd:
                        Starting over again

                          Fit to fight

                          Hi All,

I'd like to join in the abbercise as I've decided it's the only way I'm going to get rid of AL - it also helps that our looonggg winter seems to hinting that it may possibly be coming to an end so the short burst of sun a few days ago + the start of a week's holiday on my own, it is time to get serious! I've started running (well walking quickly anyway), attempt a little indoor gym work and have actually signed up for a local beginners running club with the aim being to build up to a few 5k and 10k fun runs! It's great to be outside again, though I wish breathing was easier!! Definitely little steps at a time in this case!

Looking forward to the month ahead with you all!

sounds like spring is starting to spring in thum thar northern climes!

Betty, Peace, Arial ..... way to go on the running!!!

Last call - that's a long walk .... hopefully it calmed you down for a good long time!!

But seriously, this whole exercise thing is absolutely crucial for me in staying sober. Apart from anything else, when I have gone off alcohol in the past I always have trouble sleeping and it drives me crazy. I've tried sleeping pills and I've tried herbal and I've tried naturopathic remedies .... regular exercise is the only thing that guarantees me a decent nights sleep.

DG - do you find chiropractic any good? I've never given it a go, but I have on-going probs with my sciatic nerve as a result of an old injury and someone suggested that chiropractic might help. Never tried it and not sure how different it is to osteopathy (man it took me a long time to remember that word ...... love that "age-related CRS" term!!!)
