400! my ass would be grass...

way to go betttttttyyyyy! you'll be doing the 5k in no time at all~i find running with loud music helps me mentally...usually i don't like loud music, but it really makes running less of a "chore" and more of a fun experience in my head.

swimming in the harbour...ahhhh, i can only dream as a land locked mid-westerner in the u.s...what a blessing for you aunty mame!

Thanks Peace - you just reminded me I did my ipod fling again today - got myself tangled and ended up sending it across the gym (again!), and it's an old hefty model! Luckily no one was injured and I stayed upright.

Aunty Mame - glad you're enjoying your wetsuit. You're still not tempting me into the sea though!

Way to go everyone! 'Fraid my excercise has been a little stunted by the weather as I don't belong to a gym. I ran yesterday in the rain for a while and decided enough was enough - I spent half the time listening to music (which was great) and then the IPOD or earphones stopped working so spent the rest of the time working out future rules for running in the rain:
        1) - DON'T! - if that fails then 2) a) wear gloves, b) make sure IPOD is working c) make sure top at least is water proof, d) wear hat, e) keep hot water bottle in car for speedy recovery, and f) wallow in feeling of self-righteousness once done
I managed to stop at 1) today so didn't brave the outdoors, but am going dancing tonight - not sure if it counts as legitimate excercise, but it certainly has the feel good factor - apart from the smoke - it's still legal to smoke here so any night club/bar/restaurant you still have to inhale!

Anyway, have a fun, active weekend everyone - Aunty Mame, I'm glad the wet suit was worth the money you can't afford - it's great when something pays off, and it sounds wonderful. I love the water and still miss it, also being landlocked here. Enjoy!

          Your wish is my....JOB!!! :b&d::sofa:

(actually, I DID see that you DID get on your dreadmill but I just can't resist my beloved smilies!! Good for you!!)

Ezzmae and Angelcakes - you guys are really impressive with your pumpin' and liftin'.

Mame, swimming in a harbor all alone basically would scare the poop out of me, but I'm sort of afraid of the water!! I bet it was beautiful for you though especially in that new wet suit!

Sausage a crowded pool sounds like....well....good exercise even if a bit stressful!

SB - LOL on the ipod story! And Arial LOL on your rules for rain jogging!

I almost blew off Curves today but thankfully did not. I didn't do boot camp extras, but I DID do 5 minutes of hula hoop while catching up on the ever exciting dating life of one of the circuit coaches. That 5 went fast. I love me some hula hoopin'!!

Yesterday I stopped by the health food store to invite the owner to a business shindig. I decided I should buy something while there, so was looking over the very dark organic chocolate. Every once in awhile I will indulge in some 85% Cocoa. Anyway, the owner comes by and says "have you tried this raw cocoa? I bought some. Raw cocoa and raw agave nectar. (aka only slightly better than sugar) OMG is that stuff good! I ate all 6 pieces yesterday afternoon. So that was WAY too many carbs for one sitting! So I NEEDED to work that off. But any of you chocolate lovers see goRAW chocolates, you MUST try them!!

Anyway, I hope I worked off ONE piece of that chocolate today!

            Hi everyone,
I have just started a 5 k training plan because I want to run 10k in June...providing my knees hold out. I used to run quite a lot but stopped because of injury. Now having given up all my vices I want to go the extra mile and get fit plus lose the half stone I have gained from quitting nicotine.
This is my first week following the training plan. I walk alot usually with my dogs, but thats about it. I want a new me! Reading all your posts is inspiring!

Arial - suggest that you add hot chocolate and hot baths to your rules for after running in the rain!! But I reckon dancing definitely counts as exercise.

Do you have an i-pod holder that is waterproof? Also, here you can get water proof ear phones designed especially for exercise - they are as cheap as, and surprisingly comfortable.

DG - I want to try an hula again! Dont know where to find one but will keep an eye out!

This morning was my Saturday bicycle squad ..... who are training for a 101 km race in April. There area couple of us that are doing the training even though we aren't doing the race. This morning we did a 45km cycle over hills ........... I still haven't recovered 4 hours later! I think it is somewhere about here that I will decide is about as much as I want to push myself ...... my age is definitely showing!!

Wow Aunty Mame - 101k! My legs are aching with just the thought! - I love the idea of the hot chocolate and hot bath too - definitely add those to the list. Good luck with the training - you can't cycle anywhere here without hills, so I'm leaving dusting off the bike till the legs are little stronger...
Startingover - I'd be interested in hearing your plan as I've just started again training too - running hasn't always been my 'thing' but I'm finding I'm enjoying it more and more. I've just joined a small running group which I hope will give the motivation to keep going. I'm aiming for one or two 5/10k through the course of this year, but next year there's a half marathon in the Alps that I'd love to aim for - trouble is the altitude - it's all about at about 2000m! Don't know if I'll get to that level of stamina!
DG the chocolate sounds great - and dark chocolate is good for you! (I suppose in moderation along with everything else!). The idea of hula hooping is great - I don't think I'd 'keep it up' after all these years - you must have good moves!
Ezzmae, SB, Peace and all you other 'movers' out there - congratulations and have another brilliant day.

Talking of 'moves' I definitely have to dust off a few and learn some new ones to take to the dance floor! It's definitely excercise as my knees, thighs and hips will testify - however,3.30am is definitely way past my bedtime and despite no alcohol, this morning is definitely sluggish! Pity when the mind is willing but the body is not as compliant!

                Happy Saturday all

Aunty Mame, that's fantastic! age is a figment of our imagination. the vast majority of youngsters are probably sitting on their duffs watching tv. we are truly ALIVE.

                          Hi Abbercisers!

Afraid I'm still just a weekend warrior. Perhaps the change to daylight-savings time and warmer temps will help with my evening work-outs during the week. And, like I said on the AF Daily thread, I really need to watch my nutrition.

                          Keep on abben!!

                            Hi All!

Peace, sorry to hear you're under the weather and hope it passes soon - lots of lemon and honey, Mum's good old chicken soup, hot water bottle and rest ...

Hi Tom, too - weekend warrior sounds fine to me - paricularly as you seem to have pretty hectic life at work during the week anyway. I agree on the weather, though - the new running group I've joined is now starting up as the time and weather is changing, and I'm even thinking of trying to cycle to work as a way to keeping active during the week - it may help keep me in a better frame of mind once I get home and stop me taking it out on the kids if I can peddle some of it off on the way home!!

Broke the 30 minute block yesterday on the run, and found out how the IPOD works, (need to take it off 'pause'!), so had music to help - great weather, sun but not hot, legs just kept going so body followed! But yes, I too wish the aches and pains were all in the head - will be moving a little slowly today, but NOT because of a hangover!

Happy Sunday all, and keep movin'!

                                Hi all,

Well I have just completed my first week of the 5k training plan.
Ariel this is the one Beginner Training Plan: 6 Weeks to a 5K
I used to run quite a lot but I damaged my knees so stopped for a few years (also the drinking didnt help) so I am trying to get back to it very slowly. I am nervous of having knee trouble again.
My aim is to run a 10K race on June 1st.
