Beautiful doggies! I don't have any pics to share of a dog, because I don't have one! My nana has one here with us. It is a little dog by the name of Roxy. I can't remember what breed she is at the moment; but she has long blonde hair. She would make a couple of great slippers! JUST KIDDING!

I am a cat person......... what can I say. However, I do love all animals. Except for spiders. Spiders are an animal aren't they? Just kidding again!

Well, today is the day. Meet with my dad this evening. I am nervous. The ONLY reason why I am nervous is because I don't want to be sitting there with him lecturing me about how I messed up my past. That is a topic that seems to be on top of each discussion these past few years. My therapist and I have dealt with my past and have worked on 'forgiving myself'. We haven't really gone over the 'dad issues' yet. So this should be interesting.

I feel kind of wiggly about this and have thought about AL this morning. And it is only 6am! So you can imagine how I feel. Of course I won't drink today or this evening. It helps nothing; especially my health.

That is all I have to say this morning. Have a great day everyone!

        LVT,

I hope you know that your posts mean a lot to me, personally. You have done so well despite very difficult circumstances. Your posts help inspire me to work harder and do better. Congratulations on your anniversary. Quitting smoking and drinking at the same time is amazing, too!!

        AFM,

I am thinking of you. I pray for healing for your daddy, you and your relationship with him. :l

        Love,

LV I am so happy for you!

AFM, I do hope it goes well. These things can be so incredibly fraught with emotion, all mixed up emotions, all kinds of hopes and fears... it can (as you know, of course) bring up huge triggers for drinking. I always called my mother "my biggest trigger," with good reason. Be strong, be careful, take it easy, OK?

AFM: Ditto on the parent issues. You'll get through this sober...I just know it! Afterward, you'll be patting yourself on the back for doing so. BTW, I have grown children whom we did the best we could with. I often wonder what they say about us in their private moments together. A bunch of stuff I'm sure. Mary

Jo -- if logged in, we can still click and open the picture. Very cute pupster!

                  All the pups are wonderful.

AFM -- good luck tonight, I will send good thoughts. We should have a cat picture day. Mame tops all of us with kitten pics.

Great dog pix. Mo - I love how your puppy always has someone's shoe to chew nearby.

I'm still in spring cleaning mode and have been going through a pile of STUFF and throwing away junk. I came across two paintings that I bought when I was trekking in Nepal a YEAR ago, still rolled up in their tubes! I started drinking when I got back so maybe that's why I threw them in a cupboard and forgot about them.

So, as I don't have a dog to post a pic of this is a detail from one of the paintings. It's a mountain called Machhapuchre (translates as "Fishtail") and is sacred to the Nepalese, so is off-limits to climbers. It's finally up on my wall after a year! I'm sure there's something profound to be said about climbing mountains and giving up drinking... but I've got floors to scrub.

Another way to attach a picture

Joanna;560945 wrote: I don't think I did that right . How do you cut and paste it onto the post?
Joanna I posted this in another thread.

A quick lesson on attaching pictures. Select "Go Advanced" underneath the message window. Click the paper clip icon, fourth from the right in the top toolbar. A new window will open that says "Manage Attachments." Click the browse button to find the file on your computer. (I usually place it on my desktop so it is easy to find.) Once the file name appears in the box, click upload. Then click Preview Post below the message window. You will see the file attached. Then click the paper clip icon again.

Use the "preview post" button to make sure you have everything in the right place, and once that is done click "submit reply." You'll want to keep the file size fairly small.

There may be an easier way but this is how I get it done.

There is also a practice area here at MWO for trying this type of thing out. It's called "Testbed", it's the last thread on the main board.
The part that often gets missed is the second clicking of the paper clip icon. That is what you need to do in order to load the picture into the message window.

Hello to everyone on this thread. Like Sheep, I'm also a serial lurker. Congratulations on all your successes. xo Beth

                              Hello folks,

Congrats, LVT, on the 9 addiction free months - awesome!

Very cute puppies, everyone, but not really something one can contemplate in a London flatshare. If I ever end up in my dad's house long term, however, the 'puppy' thought has crossed my mind. I'd have to highjack this thread every day, though, asking for advice!

AFM - it's really brave of you to meet your dad, whatever the outcome. Best of luck :l

Mame - are you still swimming in the sea or have the sharks taken over... :egad:

Marshy - trekking in NEPAL!!! The 'Sober Holidays' series is missing a chapter on Nepal...

I'm also tidying up in honour of a new month but keep getting distracted by my book, the Courage to Change. Here's a passage I wanted to share with you all:

"This chronic illness, this terrible devastating thing, can also be a pathway to wholeness and health. You don't get your teeth fixed until you sober up. You don't start really developing a health maintenance program until you sober up. You know you need to adjust your life to remain sober, so you want to improve your marriage. You want to improve the quality of different things in your life. The general population isn't doing that. Someone asked Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes how to live to a ripe old age and he said, 'get a chronic illness and take very good care of it.' ....President Eisenhower's cardiologist had an old Greek saying hung in his office which said 'the cracked vase lasts longest.'"

                                AF Daily - Monday March 2, 2009

morning all (very early!) .... March is going to be a really busy work month through the middle of it, so I'm trying to get a head start on it. Feeling resentful already so will have to keep a watch on that one!

Pam - sea here to cold for sharks (I'm not kidding!!) Need to get a wet suit as it was too cold for me to even contemplate swimming in the sea for the last two weekends, but I have our final triathlon (a team one, and I just have to do the swim!) on March 29th.

and great quote from the book - I just went back and read it properly ....... and it sort of hit me in the face!!!

Wookie has taken to sitting beside me on the desk when I'm on the computer .... places himself right by the screen and chases the cursor around! He sat there quite solemnly as I scrolled through all the photos of the doggies, but I dont think he was very impressed!!

Our current lots of kittens are very lovely, but Sugar (mother) is quite a mean cat and proof that Mother Nature does not imbue females of all species with a nurturing instinct!! To be fair, I think she has probably been very badly treated, as she is very fearful, and I'm pretty sure her blindness is as a result of a physical injury and not congenital. But basically she feeds the kittens and then runs away and hides from them - no grooming, no cuddles, and she even hisses at them sometimes. She also has a very furtive way of behaving - even when she doesn't need to be.

I was sort of thinking about this last night in terms of human behaviour, and in relation to someone who is part of my life (and who I dont have any option to leave behind me!) who essentially has an incredibly negative and pessimistic view of the world. It is so hard for her to get over, and yet it means that she is constantly unhappy. She is one of my biggest triggers and i have been trying to work out ways where I dont get dragged into her negative thinking.

Meanwhile,we try to make up for Sugar by giving the kittens lots of cuddles, wiping their bums (quite literally!) and cleaning them!!

                                Better get back to work
Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn
