    AF Daily - Friday March 6, 2009

Happy Friday to all and sorry for the late post!

Just a quick story to share and then I am off - my wife was dropping off kids at the school yesterday (she runs her own daycare) and she saw our son out on the playground at lunch (he is 8). He had a big smile on his face, and when she asked him the reason for his smile, he said "no reason Mom, I'm just really, really happy today..."

That is what I aspire to (although rarely seem to reach) - to go through life simply being happy. Funny how we can get so caught up in our day to day lives that we forget that simple little goal. Go figure, took a little 8 year-old kid to remind me..

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Sausage- I am def on the chocolate! My new favorite are the Dove dark chocolates with Almonds!! But, I'm happy to report I've been of the artificial sweeteners (diet pop) for over a week now. Almost as hard as getting off the beer!

ah yes, there are times that the chocolate calls my name.

LVT, I firmly believe from my own experience that aspartame and other diet sweeteners are addictive. for sure they are unhealthy at any rate. well done!

Yup, I haven't managed to quit the chocolate... I eat more of it than I did when I was drinking, for sure. But I haven't managed to whip up enough motivation (or sense of urgent need) to quit it altogether, yet!

AA -- your post so resonated with me. I have an unbelievably happy daughter who is a constant reminder that "simple" is the way to go (would that it could be so effortless!). Here's to a simply happy (AF) weekend!

Did someone say "Chocolate"? Now your speaking my language. The darkest with just enough sweet to not be bitter. Please don't "contaminate" it with almonds, caramel, peanuts, crispy things, odd flavors like orange, cherry or rum (!). I have a stash of this indulgence in my fridge at all times. Oh yes, is best at room temperature but I don't always wait.

I have never had a sweet tooth, but since we agreed to not have wine in the house, Uncle Mame has been compensating by having lots of ice-cream and lots of chocolate!!! I'm trying to lose some weight, so trying not to indulge as frequently as he does, but I definitely have a craving for more sweet stuff now! I'm interested in other people's ideas of healthier alternatives - my staples are chocolate yoghurt (I can get a small-sized one here that is thoroughly indulgent ... but because it is small I feel justified in my wee treat!!), the weight watchers hot chocolate (pretty boring but better than nothing!), halva and licorice. Anyone else have any suggestions??!

Big thing here with all the teenagers (sold by a lot of fish and chip shops) is deep fried mars bars/snickers bars. Sounds disgusting to me - has anyone had one???

deep fried mars bar? holy heart attack Batman!

for healthy snacks at night I have apples, nuts and raisins on hand. they do the trick nicely.

whew, just got home. I got roped into helping some friends paining, hanging mirrors, carpet etc tonight. my hands are so sore it hurts to type.

                      gnight zzzzzzzzzz
