    AF Daily - Tuesday March 10, 2009

hey guys, this is day 2 AF, am drinking fizzy water -alot-

I'm loving this word stabby, am gonna have to start using it more often. Another new word for everybody: kankles. It's like ankles but sounds funny. Doesn't actually mean anything but I can't keep a straight face when I say it for some reason. Anywhoooooo

Glad everybody's having nice AF days, hope the 'stabby' folk start feeling a little more... blunty?

      hi all
I am wondering if I can join this Daily thread - as the modders thread doesn't feel quite right for my needs right now...it has been about 2 weeks since I last had my nightly wine, (with one exception) and I am feeling pretty good. I sometimes am tempted to buy a bottle, but I just walk quickly by the wine aisle...
Anyways, I am feeling good about my life!

Lila, I think you'd be a great contributor to this thread.... understanding, of course, that we don't talk about drinking, or plans to drink, here... it's about the challenges and rewards of life without alcohol... I know that you know that, just thought I'd throw it in there, since you've most recently been posting in the mods thread...

Congrats on day 2 TG. I do think cankles actually does mean something, but it's not in Webster's. Try here: Urban Dictionary: cankle

I'm afraid to go look up blunty now and see what comes up....

TG... that business of drinking lots of fizzy water is GREAT. I found that it was incredibly important for me to have a glass of some kind of non-alcoholic drink either in my hand, or nearby, all the time, when I first quit drinking. I still keep a lot of green tea with mint on hand in the refrigerator. But especially in the late afternoons and early evenings (my normal time-for-a-drink times), it was crucial to have a glass with some ice and tea in it. Truly helped me manage the thoughts, and urges, about having a drink.

Thanks, wip, I was into 'modding' but now I just want to kind of clear my head, and really learn a new way of approaching life. That is the big issue for me, I think, just the habit of it. The 'research' that has been posted lately is what goes on in my head, and lately I have just been saying yeah, yeah, that's NICE, and I just let that thought pass. It is just a thought, you know?

Exactly... sometimes that stuff gets pretty loud and insistent in our heads, and yet... contrary to the way they present themselves to us, they are JUST THOUGHTS, and ultimately of no importance, as long as we don't GIVE them importance. And they always pass away... if we let them go, instead of dwelling on them or acting on them...

I feel better and better, or stronger and stronger. Imagine, I used to worry about having enough wine, like some people with their cigarettes! I think every day gets easier. How much of life is habits, I wonder?

Lila, I think we would be dismayed to learn how very much of our lives (both thoughts and behavior) is driven by habit... I have done yoga and loved it... need to get back to it...

Well, that COULD be a good thing...if we get good habits. I went to yoga 2 weeks ago, and I felt like I was scrambling to keep up.

Welcome Lila. The mainstay of my exercise has been and still is Curves, but I started going to one or two yoga classes a week about 8 weeks ago. I also have two yoga DVD's at home now - one is called "Yoga for inflexible people" which explains perfectly my main interest in yoga! You might want to check out the monthly Abbercise thread here in this section. There are a couple folks posting who sound like they know a whole lot more about yoga than I do.

Welcome back TG and congratulations on Day 2. Keep up the good work! Mr. Doggy and I both quit our respective vices (drinking for me) on the same day. That can be a double edged sword. It works great when you are all on the same page and motivate each other to stick to your guns. I can be bad if you ever allow "group convincing other" to go have a drink. You probably know that but just in case....just stay determined to support each other at home in NOT drinking.

Speedster - :H:H:H on Stabby!! I love it!! I'm coming out of a stabby funk just thinkin' about it!! Stabby stabby stabby and now I'm not so stabby any more!! (sorry, it's been a long day!)

Hello to all. Deter, I'm with you feeling sick. I haven't been sick in a long time and I'm being a huge baby about it. Last night I woke up with a very sore throat and today is sliding downhill. How much garlic should I eat to just kill this germ dead in it's tracks? Or is this a time to bring out the chocolate or something?

LVT - those bottles for the spit don't look very big until you try to fill one.

I realized today that long phone chats are a big trigger for me, and why. More on that in the AA thread.

Wanted to make sure and check in...and now I'm going to take a hot shower and go to bed. I'm hoping to kick this thing quickly.

Have a happy AF day all!

Lila, welcome back to the AF thread. I believe you posted here before?

DG & Det: I hope you both feel better soon!

I can't imagine waking with NO electricity. I would be feeling pretty 'stabby' too. LOL. That is great! Stabby. I am going to use that word instead of bitchy. Love it!

My day is going slooooooooow. I hope we are not starting to slow down again. That would really bite to be laid off again. It isn't looking so hot at the moment. I am glad that I am still claiming my income with the Employment Insurance Office and my EI claim is still active.

Do you know what? I personally don't care. How is that for a half glass FULL reaction. I am seriously thinking about going back to school and doing a career change. I like the world of business; but I think I want to do something like helping others or animals. There are so many options out there. When one door closes another opens. I would really like to have a 'satisfying' career in my life time. No time like the present if I am laid off again. PLUS the government will pay for it! Seeing I will be back on Employment Insurance. (yes, it is called employment insurance.... it use to be called unemployment insurance.) I am CERTAIN the government spent billions on the name change..... ah, you gotta love the government!

                            OK, enough yapping from me.

What a brilliant idea Accountable for Me, you have to go where your heart takes you, and if the money's there as well, well, mores the better xD You could even get involved in a training programme where you could work at the same time, bring a bit of money in as you go, there're all sorts of schemes springing up these days. Best of luck to you

That is a good idea, TG! I like that whole training program idea as well. I would be getting work experience while taking the course. Thanks!! and who knows..... a bit of cash would be ever so nice too! Although I would have to claim it. But the work experience option is a great one to consider.

                                Thanks again!
