      DG,

      Just reading up on it....

The words that jumped out at me is that the incidence of cancer is extremely rare with those tumors.

      That made ME feel better.

      Love,

DG, what a wonderful attitude you have! you're an inspiration hon. hoping the very best for you.

whew! finally off work. settled down in my hotel with some broccoli and cookies from the complimentary bar. (ok I know that's a wierd snack combo). yes, they were giving away free beer and wine at the snack bar too. didn't even look appealing happy to say.

hoping tomorrow morn will be less hectic and I'll get a chance for a proper 'morning' check in

hang in there Lila! you've found the right spot.

        be well everyone!

Thanks LVT and Cindi. (and I promise to not be "all about me" by tomorrow!)

Cindi you are right that cancer is very rare. (YEAH because when I first saw the word "tumor" when I googled "high blood calcium" back in January...that was scary!) The bigger issues are the problems the tumor causes - the over production of parathyroid hormone which causes calcium to leach from the bones which of course can lead to osteoporosis. On the other side of that blood calcium coin, the excess calcium in the blood has to go somewhere so there is a much greater occurance of things like kidney stones. I have no idea how long that thing has been there so a big question of mine is how concerned I need to be about my bones and is there anything I can do about it? I stopped taking any extra calcium supplements following the second blood test and I'm looking forward to getting back to my All One! But I'm not sure if there is additional calcium recommended or what.

I'm trying to work on a list of questions like that for my doc and the docs at U of Chicago.

Mean time, I think I'm going to post something in the Health section here on the off chance that someone beyond the Daily AFers might have had this problem or have some words of wisdom. Parathyroid.com Discusses Parathyroid Disease and Parathyroid Treatment. Parathyroid Surgery, Parathyroid Operations and Parathyroid Tumors. seems to be on target with their information which is pretty extensive. Everything said on that web site has come to be for me so far and confirmed by the docs which is reassuring.

OK - I've spent WAY too much time on the internet tonight! It's past my bed time and I have no idea who got the boot on American Idol. So it's off to bed (and a Tivo Peek) for me.

          See you all tomorrow!

Hi Deter! What? No garlic on the snack bar with the tasty sounding brocoli and cookie combo? What kind of backwards place are you staying at anyway?

And of course thank you mucho for your kind words of support!

AF daily - Wednesday March 18th

                Hi everyone!

I came on to catch up with this weeks posts as I have been so incredibly busy that I haven't even had time to read let alone post! Haven't yet got past todays/yesterdays (ie; Wednesdays!) but just wanted to add my best wishes to you DG!

It is fabulous that you have stayed sober and calm and rational, and are doing what needs to be done in these situations but keeping it in proportion. And (as someone else has already said!) your recovery is going to be so much faster because you have paid so much attention to your health over the past year. You must be so proud of yourself!

A4M - I've been following your thoughts on losing your job and starting a new course with interest .... it is has been great to hear your enthusiasm! I've been involved in some work here based on trying to make sure that when organisations are in trouble and feeling like they need to lay staff off, that support is offered to help people into training/re-training (rather than moving into low-paid/insecure jobs). I believe quite passionately about it .... but not always easy of course (especially when they are in debt or have families to support).

Anyway, I really hope it works out well for you (I'm sure it will!!)

Sorry to hear about WIP ........ when dramas happen on the boards, they usually happen while I'm tucked up in bed!!

Mary - I love the idea of a patron saint for hopeless cases! I was brought up as an Irish Catholic .... but went to school with Polish Catholics and Italian Catholics and (a smattering of) Spanish Catholics! Between us all we had saints days on a regular basis, but I dont remember ever having come across St Jude! Last weekend I went to our annual blessing of the fishing boats (this is an Italian Catholic tradition - the fishing industry in our region is completely dominated by Italians) I have a considerable amount of ambivalence about the church and organised religion, but I love the idea of saints and angels keeping an eye out for us! (And I have several un-canonised ones that I regularly ask for advice!)

Hi to everyone else that it posting or lurking ...... and I'm sure that Hulagirl is yet to come!
Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn
