I'm back. I hope all is well. I just read a daily reading: "Resentment is our #1 enemy." I know that for me resentment, upset, or any charged feeling can be the impetus behind a drinking spree. We had a family member (he has anger issues) go off on us recently. It would have been so easy to hang on to that experience, rehash, & then use it as an excuse to drink. Instead, we're trying to put it behind & let him have his anger. I'll check back later. MaryWisdom, Courage, Strength

EXCELLENT!!! That is HUGE for me. DG also mentioned that it was #1 when I had that issue not too long ago. I'm having it now and it's like it has static electricity at the moment and won't shake loose. Guess I need to dive into the serenity pool!sigpic

Greenie: It helps for me to read something spiritual or about recovery. That kind of thoughtful reading puts these disturbances in perspective & allows me to let them go more easily. My husb & I have discussed this problem family member & now we're trying not to rehash over & over. It's not easy, because our minds want to keep bringing it up so that we can reaffirm that we are right & he is wrong. That won't get us anywhere at this point & would just disturb our serenity. Good luck w/your issue. I know you'll find a way around it. MaryWisdom, Courage, Strength

Good morning friends!
Mary--you seem very wise!
I really have nothing witty or worthwhile to share this morning.......I'm helping a friend out in her office while she's out of town this week, and I got a part-time job helping the groundskeeper at the cemetery. Hubby was wondering when I would have time to garden.
Not sure why he has a hard time liking my choices. He would rather I get a full time job with benefits so he can quit his and be self-employed again. Maybe someday.
I figure if I keep busier than I am now, I will have less time to worry about his drinking.
Ok, then, I'm off ! Have a great day all!:h_______________

Hi Mary, Greenie and Lvt.
Start the day with prayer and a commitment to conquer any difficulties that happen and a firmer commitment to not let them conquer you.
On a light note: yesterday 'garlic' was mentioned and I was curious as to why folks are waiting 'til Fall to plant it. (I think it was DG and Narilly.) It can be planted after the last frost. You break apart and plant each individual part. You can harvest it within this season.Dill
Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Good morning ab-landers!!!
Dill that WAS me who was under the impression that garlic was for fall planting. Not sure where I got that, but the wonderful lady at the garden center set me straight on that yesterday. So I SHALL be trying to grow my own Deter Spice this year! YEAH!! I came home with some already started brocolli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, red & yellow onions. Next year I need to get going earlier to start more myself. But mean time, tomorrow is supposed to be mostly sunny in the 50's so I'll be putting those in the ground.
I also got LOTS of seeds to plant now, and some (beans) for later. I'm also too late starting my own tomatoes, peppers and some other stuff but will get the plants when the time comes. This lady is the same one who helped me last year with my potted roof top garden and I sure liked the results there. So I will be seeking her advice on a weekly basis I think! She seems to enjoy helping and i sure need the help so it's a win win.
Dill is that a pic of your own daffodil? LOL - I took a pic Sunday that is almost identical. I should put it in my avatar so you can see how nearly identical they are. We have great taste in flowers if I do say so myself!
On the daily readings - Dill you pulled out a very good part. And Mary, that resentment thing is one I need CONSTANT reminding about. That jumped out at me too this morning (in addition to the other thing I posted on the AA thread) and had immediate application. A trivial incident happened early this morning that had Mr. D shouting at me (which he shouldn't have - it didn't help make the dogs stop barking outside in the pre-dawn hours LOL). However, it was equally unhelpful for me to get angry about it and start thinking up the "I'll show you" possibilities which thankfully, did not include drinking thoughts but sure included some other very unproductive ideas. That's resentment talking. And this was just a trivial thing! I can REALLY get wound up when something important happens that is outside my control! Mary, I admire how you are handling the situation you described - seems very wise to me too. And Greenie - I'm right there with you having to swim in the serenity pool all the time over resentments!
Greenie - the butternut squash soup is really good! It's a very unusual (to us) combination of flavors but we enjoyed it. We will have more tonight to kick off dinner and I'm betting it tastes even better after being in the fridge over night. Thanks for sharing that! And I hope whatever situation has you feeling that dreaded resentment resolves quickly. (I'm guessing some combo of taxes and estranged one????)
LVT I think you are very smart to keep busy working on your own life and projects, etc. You can't control what he does, drinking or otherwise. It is so hard to accept that! (at least for me it's hard to accept that there are, in fact, matters in the universe outside of my control!) But life is so much more serene when we do.
I've already been out to an AA meeting and a business meeting. Haven't been to Curves yet as I am waiting for a FedEx package that required a signature. After that it's to Curves, and then some garden related activity. Today is still cloudy and cold, but it's supposed to clear up this afternoon, and then the next 3 days are forecasted to be glorious. So I'm planning to get a lot done in the garden!
Have a great day everyone!

Hello everyone- no hangover today.
Mary that is great that you decided not to rehash this problem over and over. I have the sort of the same deal with my brother- he went through the last 10 years of my life and basically told me he didn't agree with any thing I have done- it was really stupid because I have been quite successful- got my masters, good marriage, great kids etc. Anyway, he got divorced, doesn't get along with my mom or me (we used to be really close). Basically he was being an a...hole.
I did rehash our conversation over and over for months and that probably only hurt me But now I don't think about it and Try not to. Serenity is the answer!
I also tap- it is a technique therapists use for trauma patients. Mental tapping technique...I know it sounds wierd but it really works. They used it for a lot of people traumatized by 911- the tapping creates new pathways in the brain and helps to deal with things that traumatize or 'bother' us.
Check it out!

Narilly: I've been reading Eckard Tolle, & that's where I got the idea to let the whole negativity thing go. BTW, I've tried the tapping: EFT (emotional freedom therapy) but abandoned it...I'm not sure why. However, if it works keep doing it. MaryWisdom, Courage, Strength

DG, my HB took that picture on March 19th. It was the first daffodil of the season. Now our daffodils are done and our tulips are in full bloom.
Yes, we DO have good taste in flowers!:HDill
