AF Daily Thread - Saturday May 30th

Wow - what an honor! I get to start the thread today!

Say this quote this morning and it kinda jumped out at me. "One Day at a Time reminds us to live in a sane, natural way. It reminds us we can't control the past. It reminds us we can't control the future. We can live only in the present. We have only the moment. We have only today."

It is only when my mind is at peace that I am able to truly enjoy my life. When I focus on events that are outside my control I disturb that peace and cause my day to not go well. Easy to forget though, so I have to be vigilant!

Hope everyone has a sober and peaceful weekend!

    Morning AA and fellow absters!

I am fond of the living in the present moment idea. I use it to explain my memory problems. Really, it is good and the more you do it, the easier it gets. I guess that may be true of many things.

We had a blast at the barking lot. Little doggie played more and the kiddie pool was well used by all. The doggie personalities are just so funny. There is a lot of laughing there at the picnic tables in the evening sunset. I'm really liking it. Somebody had a furminator the day before and we used it on little doggie. WOW! I got on off e-bay yesterday for $18 and free shipping. I can use it on the cat too.

Indie craft show today that will be interesting. More interesting than the chores that are staring at me. But the day is wide open without the chains of AL!

    Have a joyous day!

      Good Morning AFreedom Riders!

Great reminders right off the bat on a Saturday! What GreenEyes said above just knocked on my head. I just realized how free I am! I have been just going along, 'counting the days', as we do. But, 'without chains
' - this just helps me realize how free I am because AL isn't dealing the cards any longer - hallelujah! So, my day, and my life are WIDE open - love it.

      Happy Weekend

AA - thanks for such a great start and an important reminder.

Goregeous morning and I will be suiting up for a bike ride. So glad to wake up and not feel like a slug.

Greenie - we use the Furminator on the cat, what a big help. Dog needs to be groomed this weekend.

HG - I love craft fairs, I'm looking forward to one in July.

TG - cool that you picked up the bass quickly. One of my favorite bass players is Victor Wooten. He does a lot of progressive bluegrass and is very fun to watch and listen to.

        Have a great day!

          Good morning friends!

Lots of positive vibes here this morning! I'm going to need them--we have a community event that used to involve me and a bar stool for the day/night. Last year I fought it--but gave in to peer pressure--and that's when I had the near-miss DUI and said--NO MORE!

I already told my hubby that no matter what you or anyone else says- I am not stepping foot into the bar today! Our under-age drinking prevention coalition is in the parade and we have a booth set up after--so I will be keeping busy there!!!

Keep up the great work everyone!! :h

Happy Day ABlanders far and wide!!!!!!

AAth, nice start and ditto to the 'power of now'.

Dx and I are 11 years married today. woooooooo woooooooo! we are still the craziest newlyweds you'll ever see (details are classified).
we just had a romantic breakfast here at home, dancing to some Micheal Bubble in the kitchen.
Next we are off to the lake to scout out for a camping spot for a trip we are planning in a few weeks.

LVT you MUST be strong dear! you have gained so much in your sobriety and have so much to lose in picking it back up. You will succeed! (picture of Rose the Riveter would be good here)

ok, we are off to see the wizard.

be well my friends and all to come

Happy Anniversary Det and Dtx. So happy for you both. Jealous of the camping trip coming up, I haven't done that in a couple of yrs. even though I have a trailer sitting in my driveway. Maybe sometime soon.

AA, still working on the live in today theme......too new at this and have a lot of angst about recent past and long term past that I am still trying to get through. But I am committed to the ODAT in reference to AL and will try to make this a good day AL free.

AA, thank you for kicking us off today, and SPECIAL thanks for the wonderful message about staying in the NOW. I was listending to a DVD of a speaker just yesterday who talked about her "bottom" being when she realized she was ONLY living in the future. i.e. procrastinating everything until "tomorrow" except for drinking. I really related to that. That is essentially where my life with AL ended up. NOW is a great time and place to experience life!

WF - it sounds like we are a tad opposite in that the past really isn't a place that I dwell a whole lot. Dwelling in the future (grand plans combined with procrastination) is a bigger issue for me as mentioned above. Also, carrying things to an outcome in my head that hasn't happened yet, and of course everyone pisses me off in my imaginary play...that is the other "future" issue that is huge for me. We WILL get this if we keep working on it!

Deter, congratulations to you and the lovely Dx on 11 years together! I hope you have a very fun day acting like disgusting newlyweds.

LVT, you have come such a long and wonderful way over the last year. Being active at the booth sounds like a much more rewarding adventure than being passive on a barstool sounds.

Speedster, I hope you have an enjoyable bike ride. I seem to recall that bike rides presented some challenges (shades of the racing past, etc.?). If I am recalling that correctly, how is that for you these days?

Greenie, I'm with HG - great image of AL = ball and chain!! (Nic = ball and chain too!!) Freedom ROCKS. LOL I thought "furminator" must be a toy. I had to smile after I googled it.

It's turned into a beautiful day here! A cool and cloudy morning has given way to sunshine this afternoon. I'm taking a break from some bee porch cleanup of my pots - my next step is to plant some flowers! I got some at the nursery yesterday but will need a few more - will pick some up probably Monday. I used to be so "all or nothing" with this type of project. Either I would have no flowers at all (usually! - it was always for tomorrow...) or go buy 593759 flats of them and be so overwhelmed I just gave up. It's nice to feel like I'm tackling this type of common household project in what seems like a somewhat normal way. I can't ever drink "normally" but maybe there is hope in other areas!! I can get just a few plants to start off with - there are more where those came from. And since I can drive any time of the night or day that I want to, no need to try to do it all at once.

I went to AA this morning, then to the gym - I'm starting to love that place believe it or not. :b&d: Then went and watched Mr. Doggy track with Fergie, who has turned out to be a VERY good tracker. I think he is in very good shape for his Schutzhund 1 this fall in the tracking department. I LOVE MORNINGS LIKE THIS WITHOUT A HANGOVER TO DRAG ME DOWN!!!!!

OK - back to the planting! Have a wonderful day and hello to all yet to come!

ETA: OT, but I am such a SHAMELESS Adam Lambert Fangirl. SHAMELESS. That's all I listened to at the gym today. His combination of a terrific voice, leathers, feathers and pleathers just do it for me. And guyliner. I just had to say that. :rockband:

Thanks guys for your encouraging words. No problemo today! The booth and visiting with people was way better than being a bar fly today! Its getting easier all the time--but I do not want to get too cocky! I have to pick my son up later (probably 11:00 or so). In the past I probably would have made him stay home so I didn't have to go get him because I never would have been able to at that time of night. I think I'll need a nap first though!
