June Abbercisers - We're HOT HOT HOTTIES!

Thanks for the explanation Free bird. I do use some resistance weights in my workout (a fitness instructor wrote down a cardio/weights routine for me when I first joined the gym and I just mindlessly follow that!). Yes, apparently it is v important as we get older, especially for women because of the whole osteoporosis thing.

I haven't been to Amsterdam but I've been cycling in Denmark and it was great, totally different from here because so many people do cycle and there are great facilities for cyclists - proper bike lanes, specially designed train carriages to carry bikes etc - and car drivers actually give you plenty of room and don't try to mow you down because they are cyclists too. There were also loads of old people on bikes and it taught me - which I often forget in London - that you don't have to rush about and jump red lights, just plod along and enjoy the ride and you'll get there!

Anyhoo, back to the gym for the next few days until work starts again. I've got my work schedule for the next month, which is rare - it's usually only week to week - so I can hopefully plan a few classes at the gym.

And where is everyone?? :b&d: (copyright DG)

      Better Betty is under way.

      Hatha Yoga class friday.
Ran yesterday - 3km 2m walk, 2 min run. Wasn't as hard as I was expecting!

My Dad is staying and his cholesterol, BP and blood sugars are all not as they should be so we're making an effort to ease him into some healthy habits.

Det - I LOVE capers, will try the dressing.

      Bets.

oh dear... (head down as he approaches the confessional). This camping trip was not good on the diet I'm afraid....I think I ate about 40 cookies in addition to other nasty carbs that have no dietary value. Back to the gym tonight and boy am I ready.

keep up the good fight hotties!

Had a swim yesterday - can't believe there is a pool on my doorstep and I don't use it. I'm practising my freestyle (front crawl), am using fins, but it still leaves me gasping for breath after one length. I'm using ear plugs which has solved the problem of me getting dizzy when breathing to the side.

June Abbercisers - We're HOT HOT HOTTIES!

I've been trying to mix up my routine a bit to get in some "fun activities". I have been hiking, golfing, gardening just to name a few. Fast walk around beautiful lake on monday (six miles) and boot camp yesterday with 40 mins. on tread mill.

I feel like I am feeling those endorphins kick in, but I also feel like there should be more physical results than there have been.???? I keep telling myself "patience, Rome was not built in a day". Heck, I really don't want Rome, just abs that don't bounce. I know this is a lifestyle not a quick fix.

Feeling good anyway, even if I'am not a super bod, and I will keep plugging along the AF trail.

Hope everyone is getting what they need.

                  GO

Freebird, I think the physical results vary (unfortunately!). My skin looked better after my 30 day stint, but not much difference anywhere else! The mental change was worth it though.

Having the oldies visiting and driving me nuts has its positive side - I'm so desperate to get time without them I'm shooting off out the door for exercise - woo hoo!

40 mins cardio at the Gym

Yoga class with the 'speedy' instructor.

June Abbercisers - We're HOT HOT HOTTIES!

Hi everyone! SB that is funny about the visitors doing :b&d: without realizing it.

Free bird I don't know how old you are (or you said and I forgot - I'm old enough to do that sober and get away with it!). I had some disappointing experiences with diet and exercise on my first attempt at AF in 2007 - I was 49 then. I just didn't get the results I should have gotten. After seeing Suzanne Somers on some TV show or other, I read one of her books - it was either Ageless or The Sexy Years. Based on the info provided, I found a progressive doctor and had my thyroid and hormone levels checked. Sure enough, there were some issues. I am on a low dose of Armour thyroid now which has made a huge difference in my metabolism. At least now if I do the work (excercise and eat at a calorie deficit and keep the carbs fairly low) I get the result I should. It's not magic or easy, but things are working. Before, I could do all the right things and get NO result which was depressing to say the least. Just wondering if you are at an age where maybe checking some of that stuff would help.

Also, I am on bio-identical hormones (progesterone and estrogen) compounded specifically to my needed dose. Having the correct amoutn of estrogen (bio-identical - NOT that synthetic crap) has made a difference in the elasticity of my skin, hair, etc.

That was probably TMI but for whatever it's worth.....

I have gotten bad about posting but with the exception of last Saturday and Sunday which ended up as unplanned days off, I've been on track this week. Tuesday was lower body with PT along with 25 min. cardio. Today was the same except upper body. Yesterday I did 30 min cardio. My plan for the rest of the week is Friday cardio, Saturday lower body, Sunday upper body. I feel SO much better when I work out than when I skip. Endorphins rock.

:b&d:!!!! And hello to all you abbercizers far and wide!!!!!

Slow Yoga class yesterday - lots of hip opening and hamstring stretching.

DG -I'm going to look for Suzanne Somers books, and go to my doc armed with what I want, she usually obliges!

SB, I'll be interested in what you think of Suzanne's stuff once you have a chance to read it. Sure has made a difference for me.

                          Anyway....

Friday I should have just gone to the gym to do cardio but I didn't. My "excuse" was waiting for the word to get Dad from the hospital but truth is, that was a weak excuse. I could have gone.

                          Today was a new day!

I took my time and did:

                          10 minute cardio warm up
Lower Body weight machines - added a new machine for calves
                          Abs
20 minutes cardio level 5 (up from L4)

                          That felt good.

My plan is to do the same sort of thing tomorrow but with upper body.

I've really been up and down on the food front and need to get my shit together and get consistent with the right kind of eating. I can't afford to be eating crap - I don't want to end up in the place where my Dad is right now. To whatever degree some of the problems are genetic I can't afford to be so sloppy like this. My Dad led what most would consider a fairly healthy lifestyle and look what still happened. Anyway...I'm :b&d: myself a little today but I really do feel better when things are on track and I feel like I'm fueling the engine with the best fuel I can figure out.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. :b&d:

Hey sunnydaz - I THOUGHT about it for a long time. It just takes that first step. It'll happen!

I'm having stomach issues (had them when my Dad was here last time strangely enough), but am still doing my daily Yoga........

June Abbercisers - We're HOT HOT HOTTIES!

Hot Hotties -- A new week here and officially into Summer now, which is always offering new opportunities for activity. For me Summer means no schedule, which is difficult for an exercise routine. I need to go with the flow more anyway.

Sunnydaz -- thinking is the first step....just don't stay in the planning stage too long and over think it... it really is just one foot in front of the other.

DG -- Guess what? I actually have "Ageless" by Suzanne Sommers and I am going to start reading it today. I did start it one other time, but it definitely seems more relevant now. Thanks for your concern. I am 48 years old and have started experiencing some symptoms of change. I would really like to find a doctor who is more proactive. How do you do that?

Bets are you reading the book? I wonder if your stomach issues will clear up soon. I hope so.

My plan for this week: Monday outside run/walk; Tuesday boot camp and cardio 40 min; Wednesday go with the flow; Thursday boot camp and 40 mins cardio; Friday outside run/walk; Weekend go with the flow (going camping.....AGAIN)

On the eating front: I have cut down, but need to do much better with the sugar intake. I really notice the sugar in my system now. I am (of course) much better without it, but it's so good and I love to cook/bake. I need to focus more on healty cooking/baking and break some very old habits.

                                Take special care everyone....

                                GO
